  1. i thought the small clip on filter was eliminated yrs ago. almost same filter element as some shop air compressors. one less step in manufacturing .
  2. correction ::: the 401 highway not 491
  3. now that's a sharp looking unit . my wife is hooked on the tv show "highway through hell" on the weather channel. is the 491 highway really that bad with wrecks. do you remove all the plow gear in summer weather for use as road tractor?
  4. lookin real good. i know this is a tad off topic ;; it's still a Mack in progress. the 800 even on the box cover is impressive looking. one of three i had in the display case at the mack dealer was done same as picture stars and stripes.
  5. yes i did. back in the '70's i bought the challenger mixer kit for the tiny water hose nozzle for the DM800 mixer i was building. my 352 pete has 7 model kits combined to make one.
  6. I've seen the dual headlight set up on an RD . look better . you had to go and mention dual stacks on off set . brain cells still working on a DM800 6X6 1/25 scale. fabricating the eng/trans mounts to put a duel turbo cummins in the 800 . duel stack tractor maybe LOL
  7. saw horse is better description. metal 4in channel ? they looked same. took years to accumulate a lot of good shop equipt and only a few hrs for it to disappear in auction.
  8. i noticed the later 3-piece hood , also no 5th wheel. might have bolt holes in frame for one can't tell by pictures. 4 headlights and bright yellow paint ; it's so different . twin stack mack
  9. following this project . seeing the results is amazing. not to mention the clean work area.question i have is ;;in picture 2 the jack stands look familiar, did you attend an auction in oxford back in 2011? Matt P . was there also.i had a homemade set of stands similar. those and many other items were bought
  10. i go with the idea someone changed the springs at some point. left picture has possibly the factory jam nut which is thinner. your truck has a regular nylon nut. considering the thickness of the nut , yours has more thread above the nut. springs sure looks different.
  11. as with the gas "shortage" of the '70's , gas is now jumping up by dollars a week, in a short time the news will say how gas prices finally coming down , 5-10 cents a month. never drops at the rate it rises. in the past, there was a fire/ explosion at a refinery "gas has to go up" now there's a cyber attack in texas "gas has to go up" , all someone has to do is close the valve and call it a cyber attack. country is in a heep of sh=t.
  12. if your trying for a factory reproduction , i'd be concerned. that green with tint of metallic will make the cab stand out nice. unless of course your repairing and attempting to blend .
  13. CT diesel $ 5.25 + ,topped off the car 2 hrs ago .mid -range $4 .67. i don't use reg cold weather. snowing as i write . temp dropping again.
  14. oil filters --always. truck, car , john deere . even the wife's subaru has the upside down spin on; fill much as possible =finger over center hole and flip fast to thread on. no mess either.
  15. a big importance with prefilling is the method used. have seen filters filled with the hose/nozzle from fleet fuel truck or storage tank etc-- definite NO NO. more dirt , sh-t falls in. prefill with a clean fuel only container.
  16. no disagreement the prices are bad, the aggravating issue is there is no reason for it other then corporate greed. at the expense of many the bonus check for CEO of pfizer is $$$$. same with the oil co's. things are done today same as yrs back. the stock market crash of '29 was intentional. how the rich made themselves richer; make the poor people poorer. i don't do the political crap; can't stand the present day clown in DC, sad part is he's only a puppet . john kennedy tried to do things his way; we all know how that turned out.
  17. think we are heading off topic ; no problem here = no one else complains; wife's aren't involved why would there be complaints, LOL
  18. that's when you do the politician answer " oh dam now i have another one to fix for someone" she doesn't need to know the "someone"is you. works all the time. political double talk it's called.
  19. like I tell my wife, if i didn't give you a reason to bitch at me ; we wouldn't have any conversation at all LOL .i Had 50-60 old walk-behind tractors once from a '20's planet jr to the newest a '49 standardtwin.with that many i was able to sneak one in once and a while.
  20. Bob did you ever finish the model? want to sell it. i have 3 DM 800's on the bench being built. one stretched for a 4th axle . bought a 359 pete model for the twin turbo cummins going into the 800.
  21. not too technical- fortunate to have been raised in farm country. it;s broke learn how to fix it. started part-time at mack trucks 3/69, didn't grad HS till 6/69. grad friday night started full time mack following monday. at the "height" of my profession i was working 364 days a yr(never worked Easter Sunday out of respect to my Father). 7 days a week , short day was 24hr long no sleep. 44hrs once.did that schedule for 10=15 yrs. paid a hell of a price health wise. and i was a rotten excuse of a husband and father.to Two wonderful people =work always came first. so the mechohaulic came to be.
  22. now that's interesting. i had 2or 3 of the old briggs maytag kick starts. ('40's= "50's vintage) i can check see if the new owner lost interest; i'll send them to you.
  23. don't forget your VIN number !!!😄😁 LOL
  24. never had much luck with the belt wrenches . had both. belts seem to slip more . your text was perfectly clear .didn't know they were that wide.
  25. i had a 3/8 round bar that had one end pointed like a spear. couple different lengths. drain pail under filter would punch a hole in filter bottom. results a clean controled drain of the filter. a filter that just wouldn't remove i;ve pierced a large screw driver through the side ( another reason for drain hole in bottom) for removal leverage. there have been a few that " who the h-LL tighten this " . no reason that tight.
