  1. i like it. $700.00 darn prices are un real today. another "secret" advantage to clothes pins;;; you can sneak them back to the wifes laundry basket when she's not looking. what motor oil spots = i donno what that is 😁
  2. have to question why the quick change of lower steer shaft with another spare after u-joint . possible rollers slipped in one of the caps during install on first shaft installing a spare didn't line up the u-joints creating a bind
  3. pay close attention to the last sentence, sounds like something my wife would say , no offence. it was fine till WE worked on it !! not till "you worked on it " Ony LOL 😄
  4. another positive = clothes pins can be reused ; less chance of a piece of broken tye falling in engine ;;; just say in
  5. wooden clothes pins (oops no one knows what they are 😆)LOL always worked well for holding up the lifters. of course back then engines weren't buried in emission crap
  6. with the box centered, is the steering wheel straight
  7. when you changed one u=joint on the steering shaft, did you disassemble the shaft? if you did. were the u-joints lined up on reinstall. the collar and slip shaft should have small arrows to line up. shaft u-joints can cause a binding if misaligned
  8. when comments are made it's based on :: 1=not knowing experience of poster for doing a project. 2= the schedule a vehicle has for being down for repairs. 3= the $$$$$ a person has for a project.
  9. it does have a good purpose ;; would look great pulling a float in a parade .,holding an old hit /miss engine on a custom made flatbed
  10. it's another "johnny Cash special" ;;; i got it one piece at a time!!😁
  11. if he's unsure of the process ; couldn't he just take off the end cap (which has to come off anyway at some point), remove nut and hardware . clean off hopefully some grease and see the gap between bushing and tube ?
  12. i thought the small clip on filter was eliminated yrs ago. almost same filter element as some shop air compressors. one less step in manufacturing .
  13. correction ::: the 401 highway not 491
  14. now that's a sharp looking unit . my wife is hooked on the tv show "highway through hell" on the weather channel. is the 491 highway really that bad with wrecks. do you remove all the plow gear in summer weather for use as road tractor?
  15. lookin real good. i know this is a tad off topic ;; it's still a Mack in progress. the 800 even on the box cover is impressive looking. one of three i had in the display case at the mack dealer was done same as picture stars and stripes.
  16. yes i did. back in the '70's i bought the challenger mixer kit for the tiny water hose nozzle for the DM800 mixer i was building. my 352 pete has 7 model kits combined to make one.
  17. I've seen the dual headlight set up on an RD . look better . you had to go and mention dual stacks on off set . brain cells still working on a DM800 6X6 1/25 scale. fabricating the eng/trans mounts to put a duel turbo cummins in the 800 . duel stack tractor maybe LOL
  18. saw horse is better description. metal 4in channel ? they looked same. took years to accumulate a lot of good shop equipt and only a few hrs for it to disappear in auction.
  19. i noticed the later 3-piece hood , also no 5th wheel. might have bolt holes in frame for one can't tell by pictures. 4 headlights and bright yellow paint ; it's so different . twin stack mack
  20. following this project . seeing the results is amazing. not to mention the clean work area.question i have is ;;in picture 2 the jack stands look familiar, did you attend an auction in oxford back in 2011? Matt P . was there also.i had a homemade set of stands similar. those and many other items were bought
  21. i go with the idea someone changed the springs at some point. left picture has possibly the factory jam nut which is thinner. your truck has a regular nylon nut. considering the thickness of the nut , yours has more thread above the nut. springs sure looks different.
  22. as with the gas "shortage" of the '70's , gas is now jumping up by dollars a week, in a short time the news will say how gas prices finally coming down , 5-10 cents a month. never drops at the rate it rises. in the past, there was a fire/ explosion at a refinery "gas has to go up" now there's a cyber attack in texas "gas has to go up" , all someone has to do is close the valve and call it a cyber attack. country is in a heep of sh=t.
  23. if your trying for a factory reproduction , i'd be concerned. that green with tint of metallic will make the cab stand out nice. unless of course your repairing and attempting to blend .
  24. CT diesel $ 5.25 + ,topped off the car 2 hrs ago .mid -range $4 .67. i don't use reg cold weather. snowing as i write . temp dropping again.
  25. oil filters --always. truck, car , john deere . even the wife's subaru has the upside down spin on; fill much as possible =finger over center hole and flip fast to thread on. no mess either.
