I'm likein the trike. drove/rode a variety of things through the yrs NEVER rode/drove a motorized bike. had a license since 16. rode a bicycle till 18. at 18yrs old, was involved in a bike vs school bus accident. i was on the bike. hit the bus close to head -on. days of no cell phones. kids on the bus watched me fly through the air . busted up for a long time. point being after that i was never allowed on any kind of bike ; motorized or other after that. LOL
  2. now that would be a FUN time/day. just have to be careful and patient when an ole timer starts a sentence with " remember when " ; 1- it could take a while ;; 2- you hope the ole timer does remember what he was going to say ...LOL
  3. winter in older times as kids we watched the town crew plowing the country roads with two man teams per truck. they took turns ;one driving other was in the dump body SHOVELING the sand out the body to the roads. the blizzard of '78 had an OPERATOR on a TD20 with open cab spent 48 hrs no sleep opening roads
  4. one of the ole timers i worked for used his cable run bay city shovel to lift his truck up in the air;; said he didn't like laying on the ground to grease!! LOL. he also told of running a single axle white from CT to NY in the winter with no heat. he put candles on the dash to defrost the windows. i know i said same thing ;; no way. he was serious.
  5. like the FLYING ACES of the WW's , "operators" are things of the past today. ever see the satellite senders on machinery today. the drivers not operators sit back set the computers and a satellite thousands of miles away set the grades on the dozers, scrapers etc. had little time behind controls of a grader trying to teach myself how to operate it. any one can drive it operating is a totally new ball game. besides a grader, running a 100ft + crane was on the bucket list for me.

THANK YOU ,please convince Your wife to share the positive memories of days past. start a new " from the mates side " etc, topic. i was working (for fun) on a B81sx on the farm. had high hopes of getting it running.not sure if it will come to pass. yesterday helped grandson with his shiny pete == big flat top 8in exhaust. he started it; i wasn't impressed. give me aB81 any day . sounds way better.
  7. my blood pressure went way down moving out of CT and going to TN. didn't need pressure pills. back in CT = I know the pressure back up. still have a ct license, not the CDL i had such honor to have .
  8. i left mack went to Baskin Robbins ; they had a fleet of 318's and 350DD. number one priority ==pull all the intake housing and repair/ never seize the emergency flippers .everyone had to be working or truck is parked. originally they had a small 1500gal fuel tank, always fuel problems. fortunately they upgraded to two 10k tanks ,
  9. another sign old age is kickin in. after 52+ years of having a CDL license, i turned mine in yesterday to DMV. more difficult to get a medical card now a days. finding this Mack site has been a real up lift in life for me.
  10. yrs back at Mack a customer truck (KW coe ??) towed in for bad driveshaft. repairs were made, truck sat 2-3 weeks waiting for $$$ bill to be paid. customer comes in one night = i had the night shift. he climbs in - hits the key = ole DD went to wide open. emergency stop didn't work ; i climbed on back kicked out the wire mesh grate ; laid between engine and cab to manually flip emer stop. pulled valve covers later on- parts all over inside. only once saw/ heard a mack engine run away.
  11. connecticut D O T "inspectors" on paper are separate from state police. during inspections they usually wear coveralls. they might have guns locked in cars. like all situations there are the good inspectors and the bad ones.
  12. don't know if I would call it a political comment ; more like speaking the truth and we all know politicians don't do that. and to stay on topic;; more oil means better mileage. I know = best i can do

  14. don't take the hyd line off the bottom of piston till last. put the cab lever in down position as you ratchet the piston down . oil has to go somewhere back in the tank is better than on the floor.
  15. you will have a helper there also== correct. there are a number of ways to remove a piston. you are comfortable with way you described . go for it. single piston with hyd tank behind cab , i put a 4x4 by hyd tank to stop piston from hitting anything. will need ratchet strap to lower ram for sure. i've use the piston to raise the body; first have everything in body ready for piston removal. secure a strap inside front near piston pin, raise body. block the body . using the inside strap to get yourself up the raised body to top pin, (climbing a mountain) remove pin , lower piston=remove. whatever way is safer

  22. seems mind set of younger generation unfortunately . know a 23 yr old truck driver (relative =won't say how ) LOL that is proud of his fancy red triaxle with "flat top eights" for us older folks ,myself included ;; flat top eights means twin 8 in flat exhaust pipes. he didn't like my reply :: don't sound as good as a B81 .
  23. might not be a matter of will the e7 350 handle the 600 hp, seems more like will the one behind the wheel know how to respect the 350 pushing 600hp. have been very fortunate to learn from a REAL mechanic building a 318 DD yrs ago; he had it tuned to point where exhaust stacks were blue ; point being the driver knew the HP was there when needed. not there every time key turned on. back then not many were concerned of actual HP engine had ; just knew it could.
  24. exhaust noise was the written complaint. main issue was the two team drivers thought their sh-t didn't stink. they were also the pair given one of the first 866 's on the road for trials. FL700. i'm being careful NOT to call it a prototype this time . LOL '' I still remember the day it came in on flat bed. front axle was back passed the fuel tanks. my "baby" was totaled and I WAS PIS-ED
  25. might have to seriously consider going back to locking fuel caps. news this am showed thieves stealing from gas stations after station closed for the night. most stations (till now ) never locked the fill covers .
