  1. reading the specs closer ; seeing the sliding 5th wheel and wet line hoses with specs saying all the options(cummins); I'd say Mark T your closer. the welded on hubdometer to axle cap brings back the memories. did a lot of them to O&G trucks when they were new back "72
  2. one thought to keep in mind; if you find a single axle dump : 1- check to see if it was a tractor converted to dump{ might have holes in the rails where a 5th wheel was mounted)'a road tractor may have a different ratio rear set up for strictly road use. 2 -road tractor transmission may not work for your purpose. as a hobbyist trying to duplicate a previous truck won't make much difference. just expressing thoughts which might go unnoticed .
  3. not knowing the options that were chosen; I'll say that beautiful piece of machinery out the door price was $15, 725.32
  4. as was written in first text;; he's a hobbyist , there are many ways all of which have been explained here to get back the B42 single axle he once had. would take a decent shop set up to convert a tandem to single axle. with time and $$$$$ anything can be done. always easier to shorten one . I did a ford long wheelbase box , made it into a short base dump. as with all forums hopefully updates will follow.
  5. sorry was my fault ;; i'm old can't remember long term conversations much .β˜ΊοΈπŸ™ƒ
  6. it would be much easier to find a descent B model single axle tractor = remove 5th wheel add a dump body. if a dump truck is what you are aiming for. to make a single axle from twin- screw challenging. B42 - gas job. I had a '49 EE dump with plow. lots of fun plowing snow. regrettably I let that go.
  7. a person's idea of "yard art" can be a wide spectrum. a fire job can get a quick spray can overhaul and not be a priority for a theft . still look good
  8. once again we see the same situation; no matter what the time of post ; answers are given to a problem but replies are never returned for others to learn the cause. I would go with the post regarding the o-rings in range valve
  9. wife wants to know why i'm coughing sooo much. I can't give any more likes .hope others aren't getting upset . my "237" vs 427 is running erratic.
  10. and now i see this guy with an air hose and toolbox with all this dust flying. LOL
  11. LMAO now stop that!! πŸ˜‚ laughing too much i cough uncontrollably .ticker can't take it.. THANKS ALL OF YOU. best time i have is on this forum
  12. there are no such things as dumb questions . it more of a dumb situation not to ask a question. my point of view to take a tandem and convert to a single would :1- require a lot of parts, another rear end= 2- alot of drilling . your drilling new holes =you can make any wheel base that works for you. 3-do you have a truck already or in the looking stage.
  13. I never gave that idea a thought ;; my luck someone would dump my ashes on the ground and steal my (coffin) toolbox.
  14. think once again we went off topic;; sorry youngsters
  15. based on experience;; "when i sit for a bit ,my arms tingle and hands go numb" ; I would put that on a priority . short circuit in spinal harness (mechanic talk) == can't drive the car for long periods: left hand goes numb and locks up. I won't let anyone mess with my back. this is meant for ALL those reading it. it doesn't get better as you get older.
  16. with total respect intended Sir based on the pictures you posted from the truck show , you have a pretty looking wife and she drives a bike !! will be rooting for you to enjoy life without the back / knee pain.
  17. So if there is such a place as Heaven ; should i have someone put some tools in my coffin!! or maybe some heat resistant wrenches πŸ˜‡
  18. At 53 JOJO plenty of time to :miss " the thrills" of the MECHANIC'S GOLDEN YEARS. I miss the beer, burgers. now it's salads, a shot every once and a while. NO smoking, after cancer / open heart , NO over exertion . a two hr project could be two days . farm life as a youngster the baler made 100 lb bales, competition between us was to carry one in each hand and race across the field. today i tire out just thinking of doing it.LOL
  19. sounds trivial , but i NEVER pass change people drop and don't care;; today i couldn't bend enough to pick up a penny on the ground. if there's no supporting structure near by i can't bend over. that's the results of the 50 plus yrs rain , snow sleet and hail : even the post office deliverer can take cover in their truck once and a while. I keep the cane in the jeep as back up.
  20. that is a true story , my mentor in building DD is the MECHANIC who built the 318,and the driver a great guy just a little wacky knew there was a time and place to "flame the stacks" LOL
  21. computers definitely have there place in todays world i won't disagree. a robotic computer which looked like an octopus did parts changing inside me repair a bout with cancer.. but to watch someone build horse power in a diesel with only his (or her ) hands and the knowledge in their brain beats any computer to me. was very honored today going to an equiptment dealer which i was advised friday to come back when john is here,"he's 80 yrs old and knows everything". she was right John was old school. a generation sadly leaving the world.
  22. can I get an "AMEN" . to watch a 318 twin 3 1/2 in stacks turn blue at the stack outlets ; no words to describe the sound and sight . never todays electronic crap.
  23. I know the show like most was a set up / scheduled stop not paying a crew and back up to "free style " the country side; but it was enjoyable for me watching just to know so many places still exist. i would look at all the " inventory " not junk that they walked passed, whether it was real equipment or the toys. guess behind the scenes there was fiction between mike and frank. back to topic:: still looks like alot of good iron
  24. don't you kinda wonder sometimes : was it ever fixed or not??πŸ˜„ you senior members must have helped in thousands of questions; I'm "new" here compared. my heart DR called me during covid for 5 yr check up, 7 =THAT'S SEVEN minutes on the phone cost me $400.oo . how much of expertise advice is shared on these forums regularly for free.maybe it my old age;; a follow up or thanks people is a moral booster, just sayin .
