  1. Michigan has always been heavy. Google Michigan Centipede, pretty interesting stuff,
  2. Haha problem was there wasn't enough silicone on the plywood.
  3. Thanks! I know the truck was custom spec'd by the owner in '95 and it was his show truck for 5 years, which from what I've been told he was paid by Peterbilt to showcase the truck at various shows all over the country. How true that is is beyond me. Like I said before there was pin stripping and chrome everywhere, like pin stripes under the front fenders and on the the engine and frame.
  4. I wish I could get $150, the dealerships only charge 100-115 in my area.
  5. Partial correct. The owner of the fleet, which I don't know the size, did not want to pay to change out the broken axle. That's what his driver said anyways. There is a difference from field repairs in combat compared to running this truck across the border with brake lining and drums dripping oil because they used plywood and a dab of silicon. They prob operate like this in Iraq or even south of the border in Mexico. This is why DOT is so hot and heavy on everyone including the good guys who take care of their trucks. This truck in question was really on its last leg, mismatched tread, little cuts in the tires, grab handles taped on, side fairings tore, and leaking oil everywhere. They just ran the truck and filled it with fuel when it ran out.... I wouldn't want to see the bill of he gets stopped in a friendly compliance check.
  6. This was a 2004 Freightliner Columbia. The driver requested we fill up the rear axle with gear oil. Keep in mind both rims; inside and out side on both sides were covered in gear oil including the drums and lining. DOT will have a field day. Driver was foreign (Indian) and just wanted to make it back to Ontario which is 5-6 hours away. So I loosened the pipe plug and filled her up. Yes that's steel plate and the other side is plywood.
  7. I always start it let it idle do a pre-trip then get in it and go. Even first few miles I'm easy on it because I let the gear oil in the rears and trans warm up. If you let it warm up it creates less premature wear on all the components. Rev a cold mack and it will swallow a valve. Just like everything its all good in moderation, not to much idle or not enough at which ever temp.
  8. my old man swears by his 14 spd quad great highway and good off road. He said its the best trans he had, better than a 12spd or 8ll
  9. So thats why it had the "heavier off road" walking beam setup. Now it makes sense.
  10. The f-model western had a v-8 and solid rubber blocking walking beam suspension. I was looking over the truck for about 15 mins before we left.
  11. plus shooting the breeze with some "fellow truckin people" didn't help...did you make the grad party?
  12. I know of a pete 379 for sale lol but you already shot that down a couple of weeks ago
  13. bad chamber? or bad relay?
  14. Do you have one that is leaking or is it missing? I was unable to locate on for my Cruiseliner that was leaking and scored so I ended up taking it to a locate hydraulic cylinder/seal shop. The re-chromed and machined one cylinder and re-sealed the other for about $425.
  15. No relation but odd looking 79 f model http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/4465216111.html
