  1. What's everyones oppinion on the new Mack rear ends? Can the interwheel power dividers work as effectively as the Merritor/Eaton with 4 way locks in a vocational application? I ran many years with the R Model in my avatar and never had a problem with traction or reliability, but can't figure out why most Mack dealers try to steer me clear of Mack transmissions and rears?
  2. Well the new year is here, so how about some good news. We all know of ALL the problems with the previous E7 and ASSET's, but is there anyone of this forum with some good news of how the new MP's are performing? It's good to voice our problems, hopefully Mack pays attention to this site, but man, it sure would be nice to read about a glimmer of hope in our future. I hate this emmissions crap as much as the rest of you, but you know sooner or later the government will probably put an end to us building glider kits which seem to be the only way to get a good running "new" truck nowadays. They are already talking about making us retrofit older trucks with DPF's. Imagine how they will run seeing as how they weren't even designed for it. So anybody have an MP that works?
  3. Interesting. Not throwing any codes? Hopefully it works out and stays reliable. That would be on an AC ASSET I take it?
  4. Yes, Mackpro68, I priced a Granite and was really suprised that the Guard Dog option was only like $250.00 Canadian. Same with the difference between rubber block and air ride rear susp. Only a couple hundred dollars. You said they had problems on the early 2000 models blowing the Co-Pilot VIP screens when boosting......is there a fix for that, or how do you prevent it? I don't imagine those screens are cheap to replace eh? I know I ordered the Cat I.D. display for my Paystar after I already took delivery of it and it too was $1000.00.
  5. Thanks Mackpro68. I remember seeing the feature on the 2001 to 2004? models like you say, but I have a Co-Pilot features brochure I got from the dealer for the new MP equiped trucks which shows all the different display screens and I don't see it in there.
  6. Just wondering.....on the new models with the Co-Pilot and Guard Dog display, can you set your own road speed limits, or does it have to be done with dealer equipment. I know I can do my own with Cat and Cummins but not sure about Mack.
  7. Western Star is big into gliders also. You can order them with every component installed as long as one piece is missing whether it be the motor, trans or diffs. If you order with the engine they come with a pre emmisions reman with warranty (Cat for sure I know). My friend just got one, a tri-axle dump with a 36"sleeper, 19.5 foot box and a mechanical 400 Cat that he did himself. You can only order the gliders set up for electronic, so he had to switch all the gauges in the dash to mechanicals. He's doing a Kenworth next.
  8. Now I know what I want for Christmas!! Very nice. Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great holiday.
  9. 2009 is the last year for Cummins in an International. Int. dropped them when they had their falling out over SCR. Cummins initially said no SCR but when they changed their position Int. dropped them and went to bed with Cat. They didn't have any provisions for SCR in any of their truck designs or engineering so Cummins kinda dropped a bomb on them. So now Int. will have no 15 litre engine for much of 2010....The MaxxForce 13 475 horse will be the biggest for the moment. Freightliner/Western Star picked up Cummins as their optional engine now also after Cat packed it in. I sure hope Mack survives and they keep the factories going over here. They're one of the few that aren't being built in Mexico yet. Just read even International is thinking of closing Chatham and going to Mexico.
  10. Thanks Dave. That is a nice truck, and yes, you'd never know by looking at it. Very nice pictures in your gallery. I like your Superliner also. The Superliner was my all time favourite truck, but looking at some of these other Macks, it would be hard to pick which one to have.
  11. Yes the Tackaberry museum would be something to see but apparently it is not open to the public. At least that's what one of his drivers told me before at a truck show? Kinda sounded like you had to know somebody to get in? It's in the Ottawa area.
  12. Many years ago I thought I saw an add in one of the truck papers for a B model that was for sale. looked pretty rough, but the add said it had a 500 E-9 but I wasn't sure if it was wrong or if it could be done. I think it could be done for a play toy but I don't know if you can get enough rad in a B to keep it cool working? I just thought it would be a cool combination for a play toy/show truck.
  13. Ya, but at least they have nice brochures. International still has the same Paystar brochure from 2 years before I bought my 2005! Outdated engine specs and all Mackcl96: I was looking at the photo gallery last night (well at least a little with my dial-up ) and saw your trucks. Those are sweet. Which one has the headers... the blue one? There's a guy that races a black R Model in Quebec that has an E-9 with headers. That was the first time I ever saw that. didn't even sound like a diesel...more like a stock car. Not sure what he turns for rpm but it sounded unreal. But ya, nice trucks. I always liked the CL. Sorry to get off subject.
  14. Yeah, nothin' like running an old TS 14 with that 4-71 and it's exhaust stack about 3' from your right ear!!!!! That's when men were men! Now, even myself........"what, no air conditioning, cupholders or sattelite radio......I'm not running that!"
  15. Forgive me if it's already in here somewhere. But has anyone ever put an E-9 in a B Model? If there's any pics, can someone post a link to it. I can't look at half the stuff on this site that i want to because of this crappy dial-up internet. Takes almost an hour just to log on. I can't even get a reliable sattelite provider in this area But ya, I always thought it would be cool to do a B with the big V8. Can it be done?
  16. I like the old Euclid TC-12's. Two dozers tied together that pivot with two screaming detroit's and cable blade lift. I know....they weren't real great, in some respects, but what looked cooler than those? And nothing sounds like them. I like all the old Euclids and Terex's for that matter.
  17. I didn't hear about the old Champion grader plant. At least it's not going to Mexico.....yet.
  18. Hello everyone. I have to take my daughter to the sick kids hospital in Toronto, Ontario (don't worry all is well so far, just a check up). We're going around August first. Does anyone know if there are any antique truck, tractor or auto museums around the toronto area? Along with all the regular stuff like niagara falls and zoo's etc. we want to see something like that. I would appreciate any suggestions. I wanted to try to get a tour at the international plant in Chatham (I know they used to do it?) but there's talks of it closing and the union is fighting, so might not be a good time to enquire. Thanks everyone.
  19. granitefan713, I don't know exactly how many have been sold but there are few Titan's pulling float and dump trailers up here in Northern Ontario. Those spokes look cool. A severe service truck, in my mind, looks best with spokes. Has anyone seen a Titan with a different front bumper yet? I know they list a construction bumper with a centre tow hook but I haven't seen one yet. I'm still waiting for Mik Mak to put a moose bumper on one like 90% of the trucks up here.
  20. I was so happy to see that. I hope they don't do any more"restructuring" and keep Mack seperated from the Volvo production, and keep them in Pa. where they belong. It was a bummer when I was a kid to see them pull out of Canada also, and now I've also heard talk of International pulling out of Canada and moving most of it's production to Mexico, just like Freightshaker/Western Star. I hope Mack stays in the U.S. and doesn't go the Mexico route like everyone else. I don't want to have to loose my respect for Mack too.
  21. Well, just got the official word by email from Mack (Volvo). The new GU Granite is not available in glider form. It is set up only for VMAC IV and he said no one has tried anything other than that and that it is strongly discouraged by him. They do however have 4 Granite CV gliders in stock, but they are only compatible for VMAC III. He also said there is no conversion to go from VMAC II to VMAC III. Guess I'll have to keep doing my research to see if I should fear the DPF as much as I do. Like we've already seen, my dump truck application does not produce enough exhaust heat to automatically regen, so you hear about others having to do parked regens two to three times a day and that's what worries me. It's hard enough to get paid as it is now, imagine when the contractors see you sitting on the side of the road and not hauling. I've read the tests of the Granites with SCR and they say they rarely need to regen, but I'll have to wait and see how much frame space is going to be needed. It would be nice if they did away with the lift axles and we all went back to tandems.
  22. I'm about 30 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie Bad Dog. I've been up to Mattawa a couple times, to Corriveau's to get Bibeau dump boxes.
  23. I hear you Bad Dog.That's why I closed up shop, too bullheaded and too much self pride to work for that. But i'm already missing my truck, so I might have to swallow my pride some day. There's two cool new Titan's on truckpaper.com. They look like tri-drives, not a lift axle. They have the balloon tires on the steers, look awesome. They have the Granite style fender flares on the front. Do you think the stainless ones are too narrow for wide base steer tires? I like the stainless. Mack says they offer a front bumper with a tow hook. Anyone see one yet? I looked all over the net to see if anyone had pics of a moose bumper yet, but couldn't find any.
  24. Yes, have you seen their (MAN's) D28 V8? 680 horsepower at 1900 rpm and 3000 Nm of torque! (can't remember how to convert, but that's a lot of torque!) I wish I could get one of their TGX cabovers here in North America. Really nice truck. Even has a hydraulic front drive. Interesting to note (makes you wonder why International needs Cat) that the Int. Maxxforce 13 tops out at 475 h.p. yet the MAN version D26 has ratings of 480 and 540 h.p. And they all meet Euro 5 emmissions. Would have been nice to have a 540 Maxxforce in my Paystar (the V8 would be nicer!) After looking at the TGX brochure, funny to see all the other little details International picked up from them. Like that new stratoflex mattress in the new Lonestar. Same bed spring system MAN has been using. International is also using the same seats now also (I know I'll spell this wrong) Isringhauser's. Interesting fact Thaddeus W...I didn't know Rudolf Diesel was at MAN when he invented the Diesel.
