  1. The"something"with the air line coming out of it would be the puff limiter, you can block it off and blow black smoke.I'd guess the electric terminal is for the Dynatard.

Hello, it has a line that comes out and goes to some other thing on the intake then to a temp switch on left hand top hose, can I remove the temp switch on top hose and plum the line from the governor to the thing on the intake?

  2. "christ i might park it on the side of the road and let the coon's wreck it out"

This has to be the quote of the week. I'll bet it means something a whole lot different here than over there.

Hi, whats it mean over there?

  3. do you want a e9 400 to put in this truck instead of that shitty 866? cheap and strong we are selling a heap of spares mate, also wrecking a v8 ultraliner......nothing wrong with it it's just pissing me off takeing up yard space, e9 440, 12 speed, 5.02's double railed 118 tonne rated, its gotta go either complete or parted out...christ i might park it on the side of the road and let the coon's wreck it out....and i aint jokeing......need room for another superliner

Hi, so the wire on the back of pump goes to positive for when dynatard is on?, I assume it shuts off the fuel when engine brake is on? where abouts are you located, if you got coons, sounds like Kalgoorlie still?, if you want them to get it you may have to drain the diesel and fill her up with premium petrol, they will sniff it to bits then!

I will probly leave the 866 in it for now as I have gone to far to pull it out, its 866 with 20 speed spicer and 5.13s need a 60 inch low line bunk, a head lining and thats about it. what price you got on that 400?

  4. Hi, my brakes are all done :) what a challenge that was. now on the back of the 866 fuel pump there is an electric terminal in the centre, what is this for? also on the front of the fuel pump there is an air line coming out of something, what do I do with this? thanks.

  5. Hi all,

Pulling down our 1980 Mack R-600 to give her a new coat and we have become suspicious that this cab has been in an accident before involving the back bottom passenger side.

My question is: The support bar inside the cab that runs on the floor and is attached to the seats...should this be straight or have a bend in the middle towards the back of the truck? The floor covering suggests that it should be straight. Though it looks very symetrial.

If anyone could look to ease my mind i'd be most appreciative.

    Thanks :)

    K

    Hello, mine is bowed back.

  6. So oooo, Twin Bridges Mack in Bettendorf IA isn't the only one that fits that catagory????? They also don't like to credit back for cores on account, or returned parts. I'll bet you can figure out how much business I'll give them in the future!!

hi whats the switch look like?

    Grant

  7. Dont take this the wrong way.. But if it makes noise turning right and going straight. Doesnt that mean u may want to check the left front wheel bearing? Cause when turning right all the weight transfers to the left of the truck. Thats just my .02 cents do what u want with it. Later ~Joe~ good luck

Hi, I second this, would pull the hub apart and look at bearings, just cause temp is down, doesnt mean its ok. if it was difs you should be able to alter the noise with your accelator, and same if it was rest of driveline, that would make a noise no matter what way you go. I would expect your wheel bearing is pitted

    good luck. Grant

  8. Y'all sit on the WRONG side of the truck. Shift with the WRONG hand, drive on the WRONG side of the road.

But them prime movers are badazz

hi, um the steering wheel is on the right hand side of truck so really its the right side, not the wrong side.?? :) so there for Y' all must be on de wrong side of truck...

the cold is better than the heat tho, its easier to get warmer than it is to get cooler. an the cooler it is the less tyres i have to change.

  9. Gday mate hows it goin? What year model truck are you doing up? What air system is it going to have? By the sound of it you are gunna have a dual system. On the R and F models of around that time they had a really good diagram on the inside of the passenger side door, and it gives you a pretty good idea of where each line hooks into each valve. Ill have a look at the one Ive got.

Hello, yes its a dual system, have done the lines from the chambers to quick release valves to the R14 valves and have stopped there. have not done any lines in the cab, the red/yellow buttons are seperate plastic versions. i have converted the brake pedal valve to inside the cab from a western star, they tell me its the same treddle valve though. none lines are done inside cab at all. have been doing the electrical and radiator etc lately.

  10. keep in mind i am in a lot of places that a jump start cost $500 bucks

500 for a jump start!! from who the president? we jump start them down here from a car, just gotta run the car for a few minutes while it pushes the charge in. be a triple A member, they should do it, they may get scared till they realise you just sit there a few minutes longer with a nice solid set of jumper leads.

  11. It sounds kind of like the clutch may have worn into the splines on the input shaft. I have seen that happen before on Eatons with the same result, but they were hard to shift at all times, not just when warmed up.

Hello, kenworths are bad for cables binding, is it cable or linkage set up? I would drop cables or likage off box when cold and see how free box area is, then do same when hot, this will atleast tell you if its in or out the box that is is the problem.

  12. Thanks! This is one of my projects for this winter. I've cleaned the air motor many times and it last a couple weeks then starts messing up again. I didn't even notice your steering wheel on the wrong side.. I thought you just posted negatives.

Hi, no its on the right side. :) you should still be able to do it with your steering wheel been on the wrong side :) just do it to the bottom arm instead of the top one.

  13. Hi grant - The old FR radiator that I have here would be too high by about 3 or 4 inches to fit under the bonnet.- Michael.

Hi, thats about what I had measured to. yet when you look at pics of an 866 in an r model, as well as mine, I dont know how the radiator would be much lower as the fan is at the top of the core any way.

  14. Personally I prefer a cabover and owned four (1-H67 and 3-MH612) but I have never owned a conventional. I like the COE look, better forward visibility, and shorter turning radius. Downsides: COE tends to ride rougher, harder to get into (getting out is easy - just fall out), less room in the cab, have to tilt cab to work on the engine, and not as good fuel economy. My next truck (toy) will likely be a conventional.

Hello, down here at the bottom of the world cab overs are used to pull B doubles, they have a better turning circle and easier to reverse with a B double, B triple or backing up to a third trailer on a triple road train, they are quicker at chasing the two trailers and dolly. how ever they are bumpy and have a rough ride. for some unknown reason most ab overs down here are aerodynes, you see more of these than any other, I prefer the 110 argosy my self, plenty of room and no need to be a monkey to get in the thing! plus they have a flat floor unlike the Kennys.

  15. Hi Grant - The radiator on the Australian FR was narrower and taller than the early R Model with about the same surface area. The FR that I had used a soldered top and bottom tanks instead of the bolted tank of the R Model. The bottom mounts appeared to be the same. I don't know what the earlier F models, with the crossover steering had in them. The later Econodyne had a different radiator, more like the FR.-Best regards - Michael.

Hello, thankyou, the FR i had was 1975, it did not have the cross over steer. I was told by a radiator shop they were the same, how ever it is now bolted into truck and um sits very very high, I think if it fits under the hood I will be lucky. thats what is worrying me. I think the radiator shop got it wrong.

  16. the dash in my RS is a little worn out. Sun has beaten the padding to the point that it has cracked on the back side near the windshields.. What im wondering is if I can recover this dash with a new vinal pad pulled over it. or does the whole dash need to be removed? I have the windshields out so now is the time to fix it if its not to much of a Pain....

Hello, I have done this with my dash, its all vinal now, the dash is easy to get out once your switches are out of the way, i did this one in 3 parts, the passenger section, the drivers section and speedo an top section in one piece. I also fibreglassed and bondo the holes on the top and removed ash tray etc.

    pics in my gallery.
