Thanks Grant and David, exactly what I was after
Just trying to work out whether I can move an E9 on a car trailer...
Hi, yeh no probs, just dont put it in the back of a ute.
-
just had a tune up at antrims to day, 875 at the crank 700 to the ground at 1750rpm , 2529 ftlb at 1300rpm, 35 lbs boost, should pull some freight, hey now.
Hi, now there alot better than the whopping 190hp I got out of the 866. good work.

I need some help finding cylinder heads for a 1974 866 v8 375hp engine. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated, thanks!
Pat
Hi, whats wrong with yours?
head gaskets are still available through Mack, there is over 100 in stock over there. push rods I couldnt get and had to cut down E9 push rods.( 2 of mine were bent.)

I have an extra pump but would not be willing to ship it that far being unknown. I've never seen the engine run and I think it's stuck from sitting but supposedly ran well when in a truck.
I
It is an 865 pump without "Dynatard". I'll get it off the engine and send it in for testing. I'll be in Chicago/Naperville all next week, would you like it shipped from there?
Rob
Hi, have emailed you. I rebuilt the transfer pump today. fuel pressure went up 10 lbs. found some sort of plastic in top of transfer pump, it has come out of the new hose. hopefully this will help its drain back?? also got an inline primer pump to. will try get it on the dyno in next couple of weeks.

will fix the few little issues it has, then take it back and pop the intake pipe off and run it that way. I dont know why I didnt think of it while i was there.
all in all tho, the truck looks reasonable and it sounds nice.
well off for the weekend, back monday.
Grant
Has anyone got a complete pump with transfer pump out there for sale? one of the leaks is on the pipe base that goes into pump and also there has been alot of water in the tranfer pump. it may be best to replace it.

Typically air cleaners are meant to flow only one direction. Some incorporate steering vanes internal to the unit to lessen restriction. Causing the airflow to route in reverse of design criteria cannot be good.

Stationary engine air cleaners typically flow better than their "on road" counterparts because they are not silenced. They are usually louder also. I would ensure they are not resticting the airflow. I suppose I assumed that was already ruled out with the amout of work you have put into the rebuild. Certainly mean no offense cause we all forget sometimes.
Rob
Hi, they worked the opposite way. the air intake on these air cleaners is now the exhaust, they were horizontal mount on the stationary motor, now there vertical. but in saying that the air cleaner is 2feet long.

The book I have says 22 psi at full load rated speed, 375 hp @ 2200 rpm and 1040 lb ft @ 1600 rpm for the ENDT866, 355 hp @ 2100 rpm and 1040 lb ft @ 1500 rpm for the ENDT866C, and 325 hp @ 2100 rpm and 1000 lb ft @ 1500 rpm for the ENDDT866.
Hi, the turbo is certainly noisy, can here it spooling up, the exhaust is twin 5inch, no mufflers. i never thought till 3am that maybe the air cleaners are restricting it as there off a stationary engine.
if it needed more boost and the turbo does not have a waist gate those air cleaners would have to be the only issue? I never thought to pop the pick up off the turbo intake.
other than making no power it did well, all vital signs happy so not bad for a 30 year old engine that you cant buy parts for.
he was worried about blowing it up to. My response was if it cant handle a dyno then it wont be able to pull a roadtrain will it.

I'm guessing you need turbocharger attention. Plenty of black smoke tells me the fueling is adequate at this stage but 12psi boost pressure seems a bit low.
Rob
Hi, can here the turbo spooling up, theres no waistgate on them or anything. are they the same turbo as the six?
Grant
-
Well it went on the dyno today, made a whopping 190hp!engine temp good, fuel pressure 33lbs, oil pressure 28lbs, max boost was only 12lbs, plenty of black smoke out the exhaust, so what could be the problem? did find a minor fuel leak, so got that to fix, but 190hp an 12lbs boost.

Did you replace all the orings ect on the return line tubes ?
Hi, no only the ones in the pump where check valve is.
it went on the dyno today, found fuel leaks under load, so will fix those and see what happens.

Hi everyone, hope all is well. I finally got to drive the Mack last week, the 20spd was fun but I found them all... eventually
I went to go start it today because its going down for a dyno tomorrow and it would not start and the fuel has drained back again. it has new fuel lines, the valve in the right side of pump for return line was cleaned and has new o rings. what else could it be?
thanks for your help.

The part # is 13KF39304BP5 . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have attached some pics.
this guy may be able to get you one?

As far as I know plastic is not legal. Rubber is the only way to go on any flexible connection. Plus plastic will kink on the steer axle. Plastic will break with extended flexing.
Hi, Australia has very tuff laws on this sot of thing, safety first. plastic was legal years ago for memory, then they stopped it some time later due to the hose been easy to kink, in saying that there still is a few trucks out there that have plastic. flexi rubber hose would be the way to go on every thing from chassis to axles, where a moving part meets a non moving part the rubber is the one.

i use rustolium, not in the spray can. you can get pnt, qrt, or gallon at home store. it is very sticy. if your gona spray t threw a gun you will need some paint thinner. i have put it on with a foam brush. if your not skilled with oil base paint it wouldnt hurt to practice a little first. just remember the less you brush it the better it looks. no more than two strokes, the brush marks will flow out as it dries.it will last a couple years.
i used to paint my dayton wheels wih a foam brush, after you get the hang of it, it lasted a lot longer than spray and just as slick and shinny as a spray. gota wait 24 hrs if you need a second coat.
Hi, I used por15 you brush it on and it comes out like a spray when dry. not uv friendly though, so will need top coating.

With the interior panels your best bet is to find a auto upholstery guy and have him reproduce your door panels since the dark green is nla. The chrome ring white needle guages are still available from Stewart Warner, and nos ones come up on ebay from time to time. I have to tell you I have been around many R models all y life and have never seen an east coast R model with an aluminum door, so your best bet might be out west where they were more common.
Hi, after market doors are available
not in alloy tho

Thanks,Mike, I'll give it a try.
Hi, keep an eye on ebay.
this guy may seperate them from cab?

If the trucks were assembled in the USA the Mack Customer Center has the records. Web site? PH # is- 610 351 8999.
I have a question, was there or is there an assembly plant in Australia?
FW
Hi, will look for a website, thanks. there was an assembly plant in Brisbane, not sure when this was, then it moved to sydney, but they cant tell me much, or i keep getting someone who does not know about the vin side of things.

fabbing one up would be extremly easy for me since im a computer designer/programmer. I wish i had a design to go by.
I have access to just about every pc of equipment here at work. (laser, turrets, welders, pressbrakes, powder coat line etc....)
If any body has some pics or parts list that i would need please let me know. Yea i saw the cabmate ones and they are $800+.. way too much IMO. Thx
Hi, I did my cab on the duck replica I am building, bags were 65.00 each, shocks were south cal chrome shocks for 130.00 pair, level valve was 100.00 then brackets were 40.00 will get pic tomorrow. my bags sit on out side of chassis, factory they are at the back in the middle. now pics attached.

The chassis build records should tell you.
FW
Hi, um where would i find them?
Grant
-
If they had been built at the Hayward,CA plant I would say yes.But the eastern made Macks all started over with 1001 with each seperate model,so while it is possible they were built together,I wouldn't guarantee it.
Hi, will all ways wonder. was surprised when i had seen the numbers were one behind the other. these things were like you say most likely built next to each other, they have then come half way around the world to here then both trucks have ended up in my hands. I would love to confirm that they were on that line together.

The ENDT866 was first available in the '73 model year if I remember right, those are both fairly early numbers,so I'd guess '73 or early '74.
would they have been sitting on the assembly line one behind the other?
Mack 866 On The Dyno
in Engine and Transmission
Posted
Hi, all is well, got pyro fitted, 910 degrees on dyno, found a restriction in the new fuel line, got that sorted, will get it back on the dyno and see.fuel pressure was in 30s, now its at 41 pound. got full throttle, engine not touched, had 2 heads off only for fixing core plugs. I couldnt even get new pushrods to replace the 2 bent ones so have not pulled engine down at all, I cut E9 pushrods down. next time it goes on dyno if its not up there then I will drop the air cleaners off at the turbo and see what it does.
