  1. i know you did, so did pags, but the book says different. i chose the 20/60 to help its oil problems, then when i went north i knew then it had a serious problem cause it dropped to 2 pounds, got back here and pulled it to bits. oil pressure good now. what were you doing near pags any way? not in Albany any more?

  2. Hi, 15/40 it is then.thank you. I put the thicker oil in it to begin with due to the low oil pressure. now I gotta get the bugger down :).

does anyone have a pressure relief valve off one of these? the one thats half way down the block, I need to know what diam the spring is, what the thickness of coils are. as I am getting 2 new springs made up, one for the pump and one for this valve.

  3. Hi did the master gauge today, still low. took sump off and found destroyed relief spring at back of pump. could not get another one. went to a spring works shop who are making another one to specs. so in the meantime I have got a suitable repair, the oil pressure may be a little high with 20-60 tho. Its now over 140 when revving till it warms up then drops to 90 and has 34 at idle.

what oil specs do you use over there for these engines?

  4. Hi, thanks for the replies. no internal work done. i have had 2 heads off an fuel pump was changed, but it was this low prior to that. am not sure I even have correct oil in it. 15/40?? I am now using 20/60 diesel oil and its no better. took the heat exchanger off yesterday and stripped and rebuilt it, it was 30% blocked, still no good.

  5. Hi, all hope all is well over there. this subject I can actually help a a little. Down here in Oz there are many companies running trucks and ROAD TRAINS on LNG and its very successful

this company is in Perth and haul some massive weight and are using LNG on most of there vehicles.

cars are also run on it, my own vehicle is set up with it and sure you get some issues, but its worth using.

  6. Hi, hopefully its tyres, if not then does it have the same silly spring hangers at back of front springs as an R model? u know the ones with the rubber block? mine did the same thing till the front springs settled in, it kicked the hell out of the truck. I drove it in the wet an it must have helped the springs seat better in that block as its like a different truck now.

  7. sounds like you may have a buyer? I just popped a new fuel pump on the 866. no more fuel issues now by the looks??? and it just went over the pits and only failed for minor things, so it may be on the road in a few weeks.

just gotta get it making more boost now, still only 11 pounds. all seems good, so will look closely at puff limiter once rego is done.

  8. Dont throw the 866 away mate, if looked after it will be a good engine for you. dont let it lug, dont over rev it and keep the heads pulled down tight. They are hard to get bits for but theres a few old ones about if youre looking. Funny about the push rod, I bought a new one for an 864 a couple of yearrs back, not sure if it is the same as an 866 though. Keep the dream alive mate, good work. Keep us posted next time shes on the dyno.

Spud, whats the go with that E9? That seemslike pretty good money to me, where is it located? And dou you know much history on it?

Hi, its a good engine, can still read mack on the pistons so its clean. 864 pushrod probly the same, the E9 one was a easy to sort out and we put the 5th wheel on today, a 3n1/2 fixed plate will get it back on the dyno over the next few weeks, I do need some fuel pump bits.

my guess is that E9 is in kalgoorlie?

  9. I'm not certain but think five grand would grind a lot of pushrods?? Might even be able to have someone jig up and manufacture them. Gotta admire a guy trying to keep something "old" going but getting parts for these engines is getting difficult without a spare or two, the life may be of short duration.

Getting E9 spare parts is getting expensive and difficult as time goes on over here to.

    Rob

Hi, yep cut E9 push rods down, will consider an E9 when this one throws a leg out, its in good shape inside, can still read Mack on the tops of the pistons. once it earns a dollar I will get an e9 an put it aside, till then the 866 is fine.
