  1. Hi Grant, yeh I mentioned to you ages ago, R700 cab mounts are different to R600 mounts. I'm sure you can make R600 mounts fit, be nice to have R700 mounts though.

    Jeff.

Hello, they fit now. :) moved cab forward 3.5 inches. where you been?, rang you a couple of times, message bank! hope all is well over there.

  2. Hi Grant, good to see its coming along nicely.

I've seen your latest photos and cant wait to see it on the road.

If you need photos of any thing let me know i now have my one sitting it the backyard so i can just walk outside and take some.

    Cheers Damian.

Hello, thanks, its getting there. when you pulling yours down?

    Grant

  3. Great to hear Grant. Do you still need those photos? I've been working overtime at the radar job and haven't really had a lot of access to my personal computer.

    Rob

Hello, um it will be fine, thankyou. had to move it forward as the hood hit the radiator so there is something differant with mounts. nothing the laser cutter coudnt fix.

have done all the airlines today, it starts with the button now and all brakes work and the sr1 valve functions correctly to. am onto the wiring now. what is the terminal for on the back of the pump? is it part of the dynatard? if so do I wire up the 4 dynatard solenoids and this as well? and how many engine temp gauges does a truck with an 866 have? 1 or 2?

  4. Hi, cab is on. :) finally. it went on, it came off a heap of times. had to make new brackets and move cab forward 3.5inches, R600 mounts must be differant to R700? hood was to short and hit the radiator. will hook air up today and I should be able to start it with the the button.

    :)

  5. I have heard of trouble converting from Daytons(spokes) to Budd wheels, but if you already have Budd hubs the wheels are all standard, regardless of truck make. The only difference is if you were to fit a flotation tire which uses a wider tire & wheel, but they are usually offset to clear the chassis. Standard highway wheels are 8.25" wide, you may be able to find 7.25" width to help. Of course this is all for the U.S.A., Down under I may be all wet!

    Gregg

Hello, thankyou for the response. I was putting 8.25s on to go to the 295 tyre. I went and checked out the front axle yesterday that I took the buds off, it has shorter arms off the stub axles, they sat behind the rim where the arms on it now are past the rim and near the tyre. hopefully they fit, the axle I have is from a 1975 F and the hubs came of a 1990s CH

  6. Hi, does any one know any thing on the spicer 20 speed? how does the oil pump work? does it turn with gear box in neutral, how is it driven? I can turn the counter shaft on that side and the pump does not turn. I pulled the pump off and the drive goes into a gear and that wont turn.

    thanks, Grant

  7. Hi, ok now the dam thing wont go! when I dont want it to start it doesnt hesitate in doing so, when I do want it to start it wont. have cracked all the injector lines and pressurized the inlet and still no go. what am i doing wrong?

also the did trucks with the 866 have 2 temp gauges or one? i only ask because of the 2 thermostats. and what if one fails? doe it by pass?

  8. ducky- don't y'all smack the door when yer shiftin, seein as the wheel is on the right

Hi, um err no. all tho if you boys come down here am sure you will do it for a while! :)and you will crawl over the other side of the road till you get used to it. just dont pull that steering wheel to hard tho, the 3rd trailer gets sleepy real quick and falls over if you do. I have seen some tiples do this with the 3rd on its side due to snatching the wheel, and one completely upside down to avoid hitting a couple of cows and another one hit 3 camels, that made a real mess.

  9. well, no doubt about it ducky, I would have to refigure my "angle of attack" dragging all that behind me. Bring those to Texas, let me introduce them to a pair of red oak trees and you wont be dragging all those around anymore. I fully agree with you, bout one trailer is all I can stand around here,,and one wife,,,randy

Hi, should get triples there, there would be less trucks on the road if so. and your doing well to handle one wife, thats harder than anything in the world. they got men sussed, they make you think you wear the pants in the house when the reality is they know they do. :)

you can come and drive some road trains down here if you like? atleast the steering wheel is on the correct side. :)

    Grant

  10. heh heh,,,I got winded just reading all that hard work Herb! Amen on all that and it is very hard work, both mental and physical. I actually studied that farm road and dern giant twin red oaks for several days and several pickup trips before deciding. As a matter of fact, was sitting in easy chair night before staring at ceiling, wife said, "You look like you are in deep thought". I told her I was calculating "angle of attack", windage adjustments, effects of temperature and weather, pack extra weight of parachute or not, and memorizing "911" number, also whether there were any friendlies in area to help evacuate me. She told me to continue meditating, she knew better than to ask me any more simple questions. I dont think women really are from the real world,,,,randy

um hehe, um what ya complaining for? try doing it with 3 trailers! you think you got grumpy with one! imagine how grumpy you be with 3 on! been there! the farm owner says yeh sure no worries you will get that around here! you get there and what do you find? cattle grids that are to high, no unloading ramps, muddy narrow dirt tracks only suitable for a dirt bike and the list goes on. you lucky with one. :)

  11. Hi, I am going to kick this thing in the guts this week sometime, it hasnt been run since it was a naughty puppy and barked at me 6mths ago when it started and revved its box off for 20 seconds, am draining the oil and replacing before start up, how would i get some oil pressure up first, or should i just crank it over with engine stop out till it reads on the gauge??

    thanks.

    Grant

  12. thanks i will check the gov i was calling it a regulatior for some unknown reason (i must of had a brain fart) the trans is a 5 speed without any air to it i think its a spicer. ill look and see if i can find the check valves and check them for sealing.. joe

Hi, the gove sounds like the best place to start. that would more than likely be your high pressure problem, wheres the safety valve? if thats been blowing off lately due to air it may be leaking? mines in the wet tank, but yours may be differant. you may need to get a bit of garden hose and stick it in your ear and go through all lines and conections to try find the leak.

  13. If you knew the whole story you wouldn't be so critical.

The MH daycab shells were sitting around his shop for years. What can you do with an MH daycab shell? The friend owned the RV that got banged up and the OEM camper parts were no longer available and made the RV a useless piece of junk. Mike took what he had laying around and was able to put the thing back together. All of the work was done with wreck parts that he had laying around. The Vulva hood is hard to look at but he didn't have any Mack hoods complete with lighting and grille that he wanted to cut apart to make work on this thing (Mack parts sell, Vulva parts don't).

If you get past the looks and think about the fabrication and work done to make this thing a useable piece for very little money. Mike is the kind of guy that builds what he needs rather than going to the bank. It shows with all of his equipment, trucks, grader, race cars, etc.

Grim's is a very good shop that does very nice work. No return trips for corrections, done right the first time.

Hi, it only looks odd cause the factory didnt do it. if this came out with a renault badge on it no one would complain. but never mind how it looks, its a motor home/camper van and while he has been working on it its one less that got in your way out there! the important thing about this project is the workmanship and effort it took to make it all function and look like it does. this guy has built a camper van, not a Mack with a kenworth cab and a flintstone hood and then out pulling trailers around with it.

  14. I would not worry about it a whole lot. At least you can still call a shovel a shovel on either side of the pond, without offending someone. If you call it anything else, all bet's are off.

Hi, true. the old days were much better.

    Grant

  15. The black Mack like Lmackattack looks like the one. I'm just wondering how I would go about finding one set up like the one I'm talking about. I know the air starter is a stretch, but I really want the quad box. I'm ready to buy if any one can point me in the right direction. Thanks so much for the help. M

    Hi, A flintstone maybe?

  16. Hi Grant, that is basically what I've done with my new spare pump. In fact this engine will be a spare itself in a couple of months when I start to working inside again due to weather. Citing I know there are problems with this one, and not liking having items around "needing work", I'm having it repaired, just haven't decided to the extent as of yet. I've never been one to put a band aid on something to be let down later but it is difficult to spend money if not needed.

The injection shop assures me there would be nothing wrong with reusing the five original barrels and plungers, but cannot give the same warrenty on the rebuild unless they are replaced. Real "catch 22" here although I'd never drive the 100,000 miles on the engine in hobby usage.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Hi, well full rebuild, pop it on the shelf, you never no, today there is plenty of parts for a rebuild, tomorrow it may be just like trying to get a sump gasket kit for an 866.

    Grant

  17. Yup, and I agree. I'm no expert on fuel injection, and have never ran a pump that was partially rebuilt. Surely wouldn't want to experience trouble down the road so was wondering if anyone else has done this "partial" way before.

    Rob

Hi, what about just pulling one from another engine for now and put this faulty one aside for when you do need one?

    Grant
