  1. B doubles have been legal most everywhere in the US for a couple decades now. However, unlike Canada and Australia, there's no incentive in the former of heavier weight or longer length limits for using them. Thusly most US operators that run doubles use the "quick 'n dirty" A doubles setup. None the less, I've seen a few B doubles here in Minnesota, but usually these rigs are visitors from Canada.

Hello, B Doubles like one pictured?

  2. Gday everyone how are we? I just got my R615 V8 flinstone goin today. It hasnt turned a wheel for around 15 years and although its not quite complete we took it for a run down the road. What a champion of a thing! Its got the END864A engine, TRQ722O quad box and 44000" pound diffs at 8.24-1 ratio. Very slow! My speedo isnt working yet, does anyone know what speed i will get with that running gear? Ive included a photo of her back in its hey day. Will post more soon, Skip.

Hi, good to here its getting there. where was that pic taken?

  3. That is news to me grant. I once stumbled upon a study made by a university out in the Midwest that made a convincing argument for using B doubles in the US as a more efficient method to haul freight. Doubt Freightliner would put the Argosy back into production but you never know, I for one wouldnt mind seeing more of them, they were good looking trucks. There are also a few Mercedes Actross 6x4 tractors running around, supposedly Daimler testing them for use here in the US as a more fuel efficient truck. Don't know much more.

Hi, he said it was going to be a totally new truck, and should be in production soon. a B double cuts the corner to much, the amount of road needed to get around a corner on the same side of the road is alot, a B Double would take out alot of cars there until people started realiseing what they need to do to make the turn. double roadtrains take less road to turn. how ever in saying that B doubles are easier to reverse. I hope they do bring them out there.

  4. Hi, I was at a freightliner dealer today here in Perth Western Australia, he was telling me that in the USA at the moment they are trialing B doubles. now I know there not talking about the 2 pups that get dragged around, he was talking about B doubles like here with a 10 or 12 pallet A trailer and a 22 pallet B trailer, there was also mention of the Argosy 110 going back into production there to hall them. does any one know anything about this?

  5. Thinking of ordering a few chrome exhaust elbows and mounting clamps from them, any one here have anything to say about them good or bad,or does anyone know of any other on line stores that sell chrome exhaust parts that may be better or cheaper,I checked e-bay and couldn't find much there. Thanks for any input.

Hi, I havnt bought much from there, have been there. its a nice well presented shop with good display, the staff were good and they had one semi and 2 prime movers in there with alot of stuff on them.

  6. Grant, I have a line off the governor on my thermodyne F- model to supply the shutterstat. I think it was done this way to save a long run from the tank. I hope this helps with your mystery.

    Gregg

Hello, thankyou and thats only there for the shutter? does nothing else?

    regards Grant

  7. Ok then you know one is supply so take the other one by one hand a run you hand down it and then trace it to were it goes and tell us what it looks like were it goes.Could be a spitter valve on the bottom of a air tank.

Hello, they are both not connected to anything, the problem is I have put one truck together out of 4 trucks the motor from the F model, gearbox from a kenworth the cab from an 89model mack, the chassis from a flintstone. so hoses were really not attended to with any interest till I needed them, now I have a truck with all new brakes that needs to be plumbed, all fuel lines need to be done, all lines to every thing actually. I am just putting it back together one bit at a time, I just rebuilt the top end of the compressor and have been working on the dash, pic in gallery.

the compressor lines on the governor, wich one is wich? its a truflo 500 on an 866

    regards Grant

  8. I'm home for supper right now and will go back out to the shop and snap a couple of photos for you. I have never looked at the lines. I know the pump is a "Vickers" vane type, (probably a V20 series) which is positive displacement but that is about it.

    Rob

Hello, no worries, thank you. i may have figured it out, will see if i am correct.

also the 2 small lines on the govener on the compressor, where do they go?

    regards Grant

  9. Best I can do with what is stored on this computer. Let me know if you need additional.

Photos of sectioning small area of cab on my R795.

    Rob

Hello, thank you. pics are fine, where does that third line go? you have 2 small ones and one large and I see its mounted lower than the pump.

  10. Hi, where does the power steer reservoir sit on an r700 with an 866? my reservoir has 3 hoses coming out of it to. 2x -6 and 1 x -10 and its a hfb 70 steering box I would have thought the -10 to pump, pump to box, box back to reservoir, whats the other hose for? and I must assume the reservoir must sit higher than the pump?

    regards Grant

  11. hello i have a 1980 fr 700 and i need to find where the chassi number or vin is located i already have the numbers from inside the door but im tryig to find where they are stamped on the chassi as the ones i have are not the original numbers and i cant register my truck any body have any ideas

    thank you

Hello, right side, in between front shock mount and rear spring mount for front axle for memory.

  12. For someone with the ambition to do what you are doing the Bendix website is a great resource. See the Bendix document library here: https://www.bendix.com/en-us/service/library/Pages/Home.aspx

On this page are the Bendix Quick Reference Guide and the Bendix Air Brake Handbook. These have a lot of general information that is helpful when identifying valves & other components. You can also search the document library for SD-03-4508. SD-03-4508 is the service data sheet for the SR-1 Spring Brake Valve. The data sheet gives general information and piping instructions.

Hi, thankyou, will try that document, got this from Mack, hopefully it helps people in same boat.

  13. It appears to be a spring brake control valve. The following description is from the Mack Air and Brake System Manual 16-104:

The spring brake control valve directs a specific amount of " hold-off " pressure (about 95 psi) to the spring brake chambers to cage the compression springs and release the spring brakes. In the event of a primary system pressure loss, the valve allows a graduated application of the spring brakes through a treadle valve application, to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Spring brake control valves are used in all truck applications, and may be used in some tractor applications.

Hello, I see. thankyou, and where does it go exactly? where do I get a diagram from? at the moment I have all these parts and no diagram of where they go. there is a heap of them.

  14. Hey paul, just read your latest reply to rob concerning air brakes,i was very impressed with the adendum to that post, just my opinion but i think you should re-post that part for everyone to read. It is great to see someone so concerned with the safety aspect of our hobby! I thought about re-posting it myself, but surely don't want to take any un-due credt!.............Mark

Hi, this is whay all brakes and steering have been done, i am unsure where all the stuff i have is made, its all come in protec red boxes and they are a big supplier of truck parts down here. the question is how to plumb it, i couldnt find a link on the bendix website on how to plumb the truck.

  15. I believe i'll follow Trents suggestion also since i'll have to do the same to mine. I just now have no more air leaks ( KNOCK ON WOOD ) The new pop off valve was letting too much air out and for some reason is behaving nicely at this time. Strange thing the dash air valve has to be flipped to the right to get the air to fill up past 60 lbs. It now has 130lbs. and I was not expecting that much air since I put on a new D-2 Governor recently.

    mike

Its like mine. i have all these valves, where the neck do they all go? how does it get plumbed? so far tho only air diagrams i have seen dont go into detail to where it all goes. its like a jigsaw puzzle with no picture to put it together.

  16. I see a brake foot valve, a relay valve for the long wheelbase tractor to eliminate delay in brake application, and anti-compounding valve so you don't warp your drums by applying brake while spring brakes are set, tractor protection valve so you can remove the gladhands from the trailer and not lose air, a few a few actuator valves so you make desired functions happen, plus a few I can't clearly ascertain.........

Looks like you went with all new stuff. You'll be glad you did with a complete rebuild such as yours.

    Rob

Hi, whats this valve and where does this go?

  17. We bought my Mom a 1929 Ford Model A as that was the car she learned to drive on. While I was working on it I decided to clean out under the seats and found a .45 caliber pistol. The car came from Connecticut so I always wondered if it was used by the local mafia!

Hi, how old was the colt? I have one from US Army from 1917, the one I have has a unique story where it was found to.

Hi, there is a lot there. where they all go is beyond me at this stage, but will be a full bottle with it when its all on. I had to go all new, safety first, the thing has been sitting for 15years at least, so putting new stuff on is better, it has all new boosters aswell so if the thing doesnt stop I can ask why! safety first! all steering bits are new to, the motor, gearbox and diffs are not new, but they wont hurt any one if they fail.

plumbing is going to be a challenge :)

  19. good info guys, thanks....when I got the truck the roof had a few rust spots and I did some local repairs, now some more have showed up and I know its going to be a little ugly behind it. the only other places the truck has some issues is around the rear window, door bottoms and a few small spots behind the lower door molding. I would like to save the cab now and not have to replace it 10 years down the road... what do you figure a body shop would charge to do the roof work? this is if I had the cab gutted and ready to work on?

Hi, and you can still buy all the panels from mack.
