  1. I finally identified my front axle and ordered the king pin and bushings, and have already took the front end apart. Is there anything special about putting these back or just put it back like it come out.

Hi, if its the same set up as an FA532 axle its easy, no special tools required, knock old stuff out, put new stuff in.

pay attention to seal position tho, designed to keep dirt out, not grease in. this part made me think a little due to the shape of the seals i had.

  2. hey grant funny you tell me mack have 11 sets ,i asked my local dealer 2 years ago to see if they could get rails never got back to me so extended mine, some spare parts guys dont give a sh-t,what the cab worth do you know???cheers adrian :rolleyes:

Hello, had that problem here with spare parts people, they are on the ball in Brisbane, Mat Hendry you want to talk to.

the cab is new and in Sydney, around the 30,000 mark, the chassis rails are 3300.00 per each outer, the inners are 3100.00 each, they are long enuf to run a 72 inch bunk and are un drilled!

and for that price is why i am rebuilding these poor bent things.

  3. Grant Why don't you ask Mack if they still have the 2 piece crosmembers. They fit in the same holes

and are flat still use the same bolt pattern. I replaced all of them on mine, They never break and you can replace

them easy. They wern't expensive..... Mark

Hello, these ones are back in for now. it wouldnt surprise me if they still have them as you can still buy most other parts.

frame rails are still available, there is 11 sets in Sydney, a new R model cab there also.

  4. I don't beleive there is a reason. I like your idea beter anyway!

your allways going up muddy roads here, to me it doesnt make sense having them the other way as they fill up with dirt. I must have scraped 5lbs of mud of the inside of these. i also relocated my second one further back to, it was only 26 inches or so away from front one. now its 55inches away.

  5. Hi, i have pics, but it wont let me post them. i got image size down to 48kb and its trying to tell me its to large!

its the stamped c channel style crossmembers like on the flintstone and r models through the 70s, i have noticed they have the hollow part facing forward so it catches all the dirt.

  6. Hi, is there any reasone why the crossmembers are fitted in the chassis with the hollow section facing forward? the manual does not mention it, but have seen them only fitted this way.

I have turned mine the other way so the dirt doesnt get held there.

  7. Hey Ducky, what's your friend running for horsepower? If he's pulling triples, must be the 610 HP version-right? Lel me know.

    Best regards,

    john

Hello, 575 comes to mind. dont think it was 610. they had also messed with the pump a little to. they were known to grenade down here tho. bad for throwing a leg out of bed, but still all in all a gutsy engine.

I pulled a triple the other day with a 475 trident, poor thing! it didnt like that 8% grade hill!

    MACK FOREVER :mack1:

Hi, there is alot of E9s down here. a friend has one in a Titan that pulls triples here and he says it is absolutely awsome, it has got more balls than any thing they have had, it does use the fuel tho. 1/2 a mile to 1/4 a gallon!

  9. One of the advantages Mack had with the Mack Westerns was the ability to offer "vendor" powertrain components to customers who liked Mack but wanted someone else's engine/tranny/axles. For example, some of Continental Baking's fleet managers preferred Macks, while some of their fleet managers preferred Detroit Diesel power. They also had mechanics that were familiar with Detroits and had built up a parts stock for them. By offering Continental Baking a Detroit engine in a Mack FS cabover Mack was able to make a sale of 200 trucks that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

nothing wrong with a putty cat, most the prime movers down here in Western Australia run them, they pull well and pretty reliable.

there is an R700 for sale in kalgoorlie for 15000 with an 8v92 in it. that could be interesting.

  10. If I remember correctly it is a little more distant to the trunion support as opposed to the cab support but not more than 24 inches further.

I'll get you a couple photos tonight.

    Rob

Hello, just seems a long way, I would have atleast 6 feet from last cross member to trunion support, I would have expected to see atleast one more cross member in there.

    Grant

  11. Hi Grant, no I did not include the trunion stand, only the crossmember that is at the rear of cab, (supports rear cab mount) the one about three feet back, (carrier bearing hangs on this one), and the one to the rear of the framerails behind 5th wheel.

    Rob

Thats the same as this then. it seems like a big jump from centre bearing cross member to trunnion support, its a long way back.

    Grant

  12. Hi Grant, my R795 has a 215 inch wheelbase measured center of the tandem. I will count the crossmembers tonight but I think there are three total from the cab to rear of truck.

    Looking forward to meeting you.

    Rob

Hello, is that not including the H section above the diffs? whats there locations? thanks.

will have to bring some aussie truck stuff with me.

    Grant

  13. Hi All, my flintstone chassis is now 315 inches long. its a twin chassis. it will have a wheel base of about 216 inches. how many cross members should a chassis of this length have?

an Rob I will be in Il, from the 4th August, provideing they let me in the country. ( they should do? )
