  1. THANKS FELLAS FOR THE REPLIES - I'M A BIT GREEN TO USIN THIS SITE!

GRANT: I LIVE ON THE DARLING DOWNS AREA OF QUEENSLAND

JOE: IF YOU COULD ASK ANDY OR MONTY ABOUT THE MIRRORS WOULD BE GREAT AND I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THE E-MAG

    MILO

Hello, no worries, am in WA.

mirror question for the others, if the bubble mirrors are correct for this truck, then how come the film Convoy was made in 1977 and it had the mirrors with the dog on it?

i would have thought the bubble mirrors would have gone out the window in 173 when the cab was lengthened?

    regards Grant

  2. G'DAY, I'M A NEW AUSTRALIAN MEMBER TO BMT AND ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A SET OF MIRRORS AND ARMS FOR A RECENTLY PURCHSED 1976 R686 (WHICH NEEDS A BIT OF T L C) . DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH TYPE OF MIRRORS WERE FITTED TO THIS MODLE,THE BUBBLE BACK TYPE OR THE STRAIGHT ONES WITH THE BULLDOG?ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ,AS MY KNOWLEDGE ON MACKS IS LIMITED AND HOPE TO LEARN AS I GO.

    MILO

Hello, the ones with the bulldog are the ones you need. I got a good set out of the USA for 220 usd. there is a few around.

where in OZ are you from?

    regards Grant

  3. Hello Skip, Paganellis in Perth were sourcing liners for someone in Tazzy, they got 5 only i do believe? and are nla!

would be best to pop one one and go and see a good engineering shop near you, if not Versatile engineering in oconner WA should be able to help?

    regards Grant

  4. Hi, glad everyone can help. i am located in Perth Western Australia at the moment, one day maybe i may succeed in living there if my girlfriend gets it together, then i will bring my old mack over and set up a triple road train over there, the police will have a big stress as when we have them set up there 173feet long but would make a great display at a truck show :))

check out my album and you will see how much rust i have to fix, but it getting there....I think?

    Grant

  5. Yea, I guess we are. Fortunately, this is minor. I've got to re-roof one of my B61's when this truck is at the blaster also. We are going to weld a new rear frame section in tonight after work, then get it rolling again. The old frame was busted up pretty good from twisting.

It sounds as if you are progressing a little. Glad to hear it. If you were still in the area I would stand back and supervise your efforts! Just kidding. I'd be right in there myself.

    Rob

Hi, yep, its getting there slowly, have been busy on the Tumbler, so have not done much to it but order rust sections when i have the money. plenty more rust sections to buy yet.

    Grant

  6. The roof photos are pretty revealing.

Depending on the time of day and your frame of mind,

it could look pretty bad, or not!

But - no matter how bad it looks,

it's really just a little more grinding and a little more welding.

And - you don't have to have it running tomorrow morning to make a living.

That alone should improve your perception of the issue.

    Have Fun!

And - we'll talk someday about an R-700 for me. I'm on board with Glenn,

they make a real nice truck. Comfortable, dependable and timeless looks.

    Paul VS

sounds like we are all having fun times with rust in cabs, i just got another rust panel the other day, it was the lower sill outer and the under sill part below floor, both are joined together and only 200.00aud from mack.

    Grant

  7. No he actually made it without any incidents, well as far as yesterday anyway. I talked to him around dinnertime and he had just got back at the shop. Today though is another question. Rob you must have plenty of room for all those trucks, parts, etc.

Thanks guys, its all been sealed up, was debating weather to turn it over or not, i have had a blown falcon coupe in storage in chicago for 3 tears, it has not been touched, turne or anythoing.

    regards Grant

  8. Hi Grant, you should start by giving it to me and no longer being concerned with it.

Actually just wrap it up well, or tarp and turn it over by hand every month or so. I've never had one stick by doing this and some of my engines has sat quite some time. If possible have it inside to avoid as much condensation as possible.

    Rob

Hi, i could give it to you, but it wont fit in the mailbox :)) thanks for the info, was getting a little worried about it. its been inside for a while now. poor thing, when it eventually goes back in its going to have a fun time pulling a triple.

    Grant

  9. Hello All, well i am unsure what i should really do with my 866, its been sitting parked up for a few months now and am sure it will be there for atleast a minimum of 3months, what should i do with it? turn it over by hand, just leave it? or what? all i have done is pull it out of a running rusty F model and put it on a pallet. any sugestions?

    thanks, Grant

  10. I'd love to visit Australia some day...but you do know that you guys have 9 outta 10 of the world's deadliest snakes there? LOL

    I hate snakes!

the snakes are ok! well unless you have to go to the dunny in the bush, as there is no parking areas like you guys have! our parking bays consist of gravel/mud and lotsa bush and no toilet. its just you, the snake and gum leaves! toilet paper optional.

now what about the spiders? we have red backs, white tails, scopions, centrepeeds and all sorts of other nastys, crocks, great whites, we got the whole lot down here. :D

    Grant

  11. I'm gonna wait for his report, and if he likes it I might come too. Plan to open a barbecue joint when I get there. Already ordered the plans for a kangaroo trap from ACME products. :D

you dont need ACME! you just need to hop in a road train, your sure to hit a few! along with cows, camels and horses, snakes, wombats, goats, sheep you should be able to start your own ROAD KILL CAFE!! :D

  12. C'mon "Mates", we have to put ourselves on THE MAP (see Site Related Topics - the top one is pinned).

At the present time, there are only 3 of use on the Aussie map. B)

We have to show our "American friends" that WE are a FORCE to be contended with

Just remembered what will repel them - VEGEMITE :D

Blimey, they are talking about visiting and one guy (maybe more) is even immigrating :WELCOME:

We love our sunburnt country (even the GAFA), so let's show them where it is.

    We can do it.

    Rod.

    :chili::banana::chili::banana:

Hello, bah we got em beat! you wanna see big trains, you go to the USA, but if you wanna see big trucks! you come to the land down under! where the kangaroos freak an the camels glow at the site of a road train!

  13. Silly question for anyone to answer....?

I'm very familiar with tractor pulling "farm stock" I used to pull a Massey ferguson 1100, 1130, 2775 and a 275. We had weight bracket all over the tractor (the 1100 was our baby), and could shift weights according to how we read the track.

however I've never been to a semi pull other than seeing one on espn. How is the sled hooked to the semi? and what suspension works best with pulling. What modifications for stock classes are you allowed to use if any. I have an 84 superliner with a 440 e-9/12speed mack trans/neway air suspension in it that I bought just for restoration/pulling purposes. any suggestions or advice would be great.

Hello, try lowering the air bags when pulling, have done this when get bogged in mud, it puts power to the ground more evenly.

    Grant

  14. The cabs that I have are bent because of the persons pulling them tried to keep their forks as close to the top as possible. If they would have used longer straps through the doorways there would have been a lot less compression force through the roof and drip rails. Of course they would have needed a lot more lifting height to clear the frame and transmission. That is the purpose of the spreader bar. One of the cabs was lifted off with a chain so you can imagine the damage to it!

    Rob

i put the forks through the closed doors, seem to work ok.... when you actually undo ALL the lines  also i orderd a cab rust section today, um its coming from :mack1: USA i wouldnt be surprised if al the parts are still available there.

    Grant

  15. Hi Grant, I've ordered a couple new pickel forks for the larger stuff I'm now working on. My large fork with 1.125 opening did not have enough of an opening to go around the lower taper and I did not know this until looking very close.

Someone in the past must have really run the retention nuts down with a large impact wrench as the bottom of the retainer nut is "mushroomed out" and the normally flat part of the spindle steering arm in concaved in. I may have to build up the area the nut bears against using a hardened flat washer when the rod end finally separates.

Appreciate all the help so far!

    Rob

keep hitting :) could all ways try a bottle jack above it with tpressure on top and give it a good wallop from side. or a scissor jack, put on top of tie rod and under chassis., soak some diesel over it and come back to it the next day. it may be out???

    Grant
