thats complete b.s. that volvo killed the superliner7 yrs before volvo took over. sorry i dont buy it. you make excuses for macks blunders of the 90s and blame volvo for everything. i can seee through all of it.you hate volvo yes i get it. but dont blame them for something they didnt do. in 93 mack stopped making the superliner which was a big mistake and in 99 they stopped the v8 nother big mistake. both pre volvo. wouldnt you say it was a dumb move to stop the superliner production in 93 and wait 3 yrs to try to to make a replacement for it. you dont stop making your flagship truck with no replacement . you just dont do stuff like that. its the same with the E9 you dont stop making your flagship engine and wait 4 yrs like you claim to come out with a replacement. mack stopped the superliner and bingo the market for long nose classic trucks exploded soon after it was a huge mistake that mack trucks allowed to happen, dont blame volvo. if anything atleast now a mack customer can buy a set forward axle long nose conventional with big power . i like volvos influence on modern macks .

MACK HAS CURRENTLY 8 MODELS NOT 4 : pinnacle axle forward pinnacle axle back granite axle forward granite axle back titan granite mhd mru terrapro leu terrapro yes it would be nice to see a modern superliner i think we will see it happen in the next few years . also i like the looks of the titan my brother gets compliments all the time on his his titan. they are awesome trucks, stop running down something youve never driven mr k scarbel. also volvo didnt kill the superliner mack did. i love the old trucks but to call a granite a compromised replacement for the rd is ignorant, i bet youve never even driven a gu with mp8 or mp7 engine. so much more comfortable and with up to 505hp and a great engine brake i mean come on man

Low resale values on Mack Titans.
41180 replied to mackbulldog64's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
they are heavy but every new truck is heavy with all the emission crap on them. tod ay i weighed out empty at finch paper and there was a new western startruck and pup next to me on the other scale. he has 7 total axles and a 4 foot loog body set up to slash wood into 4 foot lengths so he has double the stakes that i have but he weighed out empty at 53k lbs with my CL i weighed out at 42.5k lbs. a new granite is as heavy or heavier than a CL. i think its stupid that the states or feds havent gave us truckers extra weight on our permits to offset the extra weight of the new trucks. in vermont the maximum weight limit is 99k lbs . we used to try and set up our trucks to be around 40 to 42k empty. thats why we had macks because you could get a heavy duty rugged truck and combine it with the E7 engine that would pull 100k lb load pretty good and still be lite weight. its not possible to do that anymore. -
Low resale values on Mack Titans.

it cant weigh 44k empty. our titan weighs 45k empty with a serco 7500 log crane mounted on the truck and 4 bolser log body made of t1 steel and a steel headboard and watsin chalin steerable lift axle and a home meade pup trailer with 4 steel bunks , my CL weighs 42k set up the same way so the titan is about 3k lbs heavier. most of the weight is the engine and dpf and def tank. -
a local town my cousin works for just ordered there first mack . a GU713 single axle mp7 355hp 13 spd . not sure on the rear end specs . theyve had to many problems with the newer internationals so we hooked them up with the mack salesman
-
the granites are the way to go for dump trucks . for some reason up here i dont see many gu granites i see tons of cv granites and rd models but the new granites havent caught on up here. theres a few around but not many

all of the e7 engine series were tough as hell . we had a 97 CL with the e7 454 that had 30k hrs when my dad decided to rear it down and rebuild it. when they got it apart they said it was like new inside . we had a 93 superliner with a e7 400 electronic engine that had over 32k hrs on it when we sold it .the etechs werent as tough but still as good or better than other engines . the two 460xt engines we have had both needed rebuilds around 25k hrs they had loose pistons and mine had some wear in the bottom end
-
maybe they did get them straightened out. im just not a cummins fan. in my area no one wants to work on them. i guess the software to to work on them costs tons of money and you have to work on all cummins diesels even dodge trucks and equipment with cummins if you become a certified cummins dealer, atleast thats what i was told. i saw a mack CL with a cumminsisx 565 hp drop a valve with like 10k hrs on the engine it cost the guy 20k to fix it, new head and injectors and one new piston is all he could afford .
-
i bet it pulls pretty good ?
-
my dad was talking to a guy that had a 2012 pete 389 with a 600 cummins . he said the truck was great and drove nice but the engine sucked. he was getting 2.8 mpg and broke down all the time so he sold it.
-
well i hope its good for you. i just have heard of so many newer cummins 2008 thru 2012 that are having issues with sensors and dpf clogging and injector issues i wouldnt buy one id go witha freightliner with detroit if i was going away from mack.

we had a 91 ch set back axle with a e7 400 non computer and a 13 speed mack and 44k mack rears with a 4.42 gear ratio that thing would pull awesome . we used to pass 475 cats with it all day long. nothing better than seeing the look on a petercars driver face when we passed them with that ugly old mack
-
yeah i think they will do it, when i watched ultimate factories last yr mack said they would do any paint job the customer asked for so we will see when the time comes.
-
should be a good truck for what your doing. the e7 400 mechanical should have pleny of power and the 13 speed should work well with it. the e7 engines are reliable almost bullet proof if taken care of even semi well. its a 23 yr old truck so it will probably have a few minor issues atleast
-
i have been looking at the lines of the titan we have now and i think i could design a really nice paint scheme to fit the lines of the truck. the hood of the titans have similiar lines if a superliner on top of the hood. my dads truck has charcoal grey stripe runnung down the center of the top of the hood with siler stripe coming up over the hood from the sides of the truck and charcoal stripes as well on the side so this is my plan. when the time comes i get to order a new truck im going to give the salesman a picture of the superliner and see what mack will do to adapt it that paint scheme to a titan.
-
thanks 3p . my brother will be excited to get it. maybe next yr or the year after ill get mine . im thinking about colors now . i want a custom paint job on mine possibly 3 tone marroon charcoal and silver like my dads superliner.
-
how could they not cover it its warranty ? but goodluck with the pete if its cummins powered its junk
-
ive heard the 370s and 400 ai with the 10 speed is not a good setup, of coarse rearend gear ratio is everything. ive found macks with 4.42 and 4.35 and 4.30 gears will over achieve while the 4.56 4.64 and 4.73 are pigs

i have a midwest diesel "power box " in my 2000 mack 460 etech. it works pretty good but high performance injectors work better. maybe with a lower horsepower rating like yours the electronic box would work better, my dad has a blixxton box in his vmac 2 427 and it works better than my box does. i think with the higher horsepewer ratings theres only so much power available maybe a 380/410 would respond better to a tuning box than a 487hp ??
