  1. regular hydraulic oil is all we use. but on pistons with a leaking packing gland like the dump trailer, i will add a few gallons of 10-40 engine oil. the engine oil tends to slow down the leaking. but it is no good in winter unless the oil is warmed up before trying to lift the body.
  2. with full piston extension you should still have 2-3 gallons in the tank. but it is not measured at full extension, it is measured full piston collapse. all the way down i like to keep the tank about 4-5 inches from the top.
  3. even with the body down i can easily see the oil level tube on my new truck..... once they get older it is kind of hard to see oil level in the tube though. the 2005 had a door in the top of the piston housing to access the air bleeder valve on top of the piston, and also to access the tank fill. that was on a J&J body.
  4. depending on the manufacturer of the body, but for a tank on frame between cab and body there should be a plastic or glass tube on front of the tank. but basically put, if the piston goes all the way up without chatter there is enough oil in the tank. if you put too much in the tank, it will blow out the vent when body is lowered all the way down. when i add oil to a low system, i add one gallon at a time until piston chatter goes away and body goes all the way up. then add 1 more gallon.
  5. they already have. i saw this morning they are already down 100 million since the "go woke" started.
  6. not looking like an azz at all Paul. i have no idea what they are talking about either.
  7. ok.....das racist!!!!!! but only because it is the truth.
  8. why wait for the 300? i bet the 237 will be happy with that trans too.
  9. we had a 66 crackerbox 85 foot aerial ladder, with 750 gallon water tank,1000GPM pump, and a full compliment of ladders. it was ordered with the V12 gas engine. by the time they got around to building it the V-12 was discontinued and they put in an 837 magnum. that thing was the biggest turd i ever drove. by the time they got rid of it in 85, it had only racked up 16,000 miles. if you had to go north of the firehouse, you had to go west 1 mile and then northeast to get to the other side of the big hill 1/8 mile from the firehouse. the truck would not climb the hill, even in first gear low gear in the two speed rear. and it only had a 55 mph top speed. it was donated to a fire company in new mexico or arizona, it took them 3 weeks to drive it out there.
  10. Correct you are. Half of the engine was in the cab.
  11. yea, but you also ate elmers glue and crayons. oh wait, maybe that explains why you are the way you are?
  12. yup, the 9000 was a short nose. we had one with a 290 cummins and a 10 speed. great truck.
  13. But how many did HE take in??
  14. exactly. i only believe around 2% of what i read in news, and the same 2% of anything said about trump.
  15. wow, what a beauty!!
  16. 86 should still be on the floor........BUT. the switch probably fell apart and a previous owner just eliminated it and stuck a jumper wire in the plug to turn headlights on . look around the driver side kick panel for a 3 pin dimmer switch plug, one pin on top, two on bottom
  17. i kind of disagree. list them in the census , but as IN COUNTRY ILLEGALLY this way people can see how many illegals are really here.
  18. ok. i do remember that cummins had a 3 somewhere in it.
  19. was not the "13" designation for a cummins engine?
  20. Fords largest truck currently is the F750
  21. yup, like me when i went from a Mack to a Kenworth as a daily driver. i could tell you almost anything you wanted to know about a Mack. but a Kenworth? all i knew is it was an over the road truck.
  22. yup. they figured it was at least 100 years old, because that section was a farmstead before becoming part of the county park system, and the building only got power and inside plumbing when gifted to the park in the early 70's. the building was timber frame, and built in the early 1800's. we were converting it to a historic display of life in the 1800's, and the bathroom was hidden in a small addition the original kitchen still had the well pump under the sink cabinet. and still worked.
  23. Bob, many years ago a friend had a 66 Dm 800 on a b81 frame. With a V8 and allison automatic trans. That truck was a real bastage getting parts for
  24. 73 was the change over year. i have seen early made 73's with steel "round" dash, and later builds with the plastic dash. by 74 all macks i have ever seen had plastic dash.
  25. nope, was good on smokes Bob................but i was running short on water by the time they got me out, the last bottle was almost empty.
