    Thanks for your thoughts on the filter Vlad. I don't see any sign of a spin on filter, so I think I will leave things alone . The transmission works and shifts amazing. I believe in preventative maintenance though , and didn't want to have trouble in the future . Thats why I was asking. I'm looking forward to seeing what you want the large tires for . It actually has 445/65R 22.5 tires on the front.

    Thanks , I'm slowly going to get it back to its former glory . In the meantime I will use it a little to move fill on some of my friends construction sites .

    Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression its a spin on filter ? I think I must have it wrong . The only thing I can find in the air line to the shifter is this . Has air in and air out . If I clean it ,and tear it apart , It may have a cartridge in it ? Its not very big . On top of the trans on drivers side .

    I'm very fortunate to finally have a DM. It was the very first Mack model I ever drove, and I've always liked them. This one is a very solid truck under all the bent parts , LOL It was used as a site truck and never got much attention. Its a 1989 DM 690 , T2070 trans with 300 maxidyne engine. I really like it !!!! I have a question though. Everything I've read says a Mack air shift trans will have an air filter. I can't seem to find one. Do they all have one ? Or have I not looked far enough yet ? Any info would be appreciated . Thanks

    Congrats on your new purchase !!!! It looks really good and I'm sure it will make you some $$$$$ Just be careful , Macks are like potato chips , its hard to have just one O ........ and welcome aboard, there's lots of knowledge here

    I just replaced the dash solenoid in one of my Macks . I told the parts man I wanted a 2MR2114 solenoid. He gave me a Mack/Volvo part # of 8609-98226WR, the same part # as the very first post. The part however looks nothing like the original. I just wanted to share this and some pics for the next person that thinks they may have the wrong part ( like me ) . Good news is it goes on no problem, and works like it should . This is the original This is the new one

    Welcome aboard. Another nut here , lol . I love going for a cruise in an R model . Friends with muscle cars don't see the similarity. I'm not sure why ?

    There used to be a repair kit. Like everything else old..... its probably not available now, but I don't know. Though I would share in case its of any use .

    This may help a little. I had to fix an air leak in mine to . I just matched the o-ring up. I was fortunate that there was still one there , it had just got worn from old age. I think you are supposed to use a special grease when you put it back together. I just used chain lube . Not sure if that was right. It doesn't leak any more and works well.

    I have friends that are changing their trucks. I just can't do it though. Seems wrong to change something that has worked well for the last 36 years. I will just haul my small loads for now........ Then maybe I will get smart and get a proper job, lol

    Thanks, I'm sure you will see some more Canadian trucks. They have been selling at auction cheap. I would think they are heading south.

    Maybe I could register my RD with St. Louis plates so I could haul a real load , LOL In Ontario, Canada my tri-axle is only legal to haul 13.6 metric Tonne or 14.9 tons your money . Jan 01 of this year I am not allowed to use my lift axle. If my truck was a 2005 or newer I would be allowed to with a permit. But because of the age of my truck I can't get the permit. The people that make these rules sure do annoy me .

    I hope you didn't think I was being smart about the open air workshop. I'm jealous . It gets pretty cold here . It's hard on the hands trying to repair something outside. If its broke though, sometimes you don't have a choice. My hands give me troubles now from being froze more than once . Your new building sounds impressive
