  1. sounds like a bad check valve in the compressor? or you have a bad air leak but you would be able to hear that. also check the air drier is not stuck open after it spits .
  2. On my 77'RS700L My core rusted at the bottom and started leaking so I know I need a new core but I Think I will also need a new bottom tank as well? My lower tank is aluminum and it also acts as the lower mount where it secures to the frame cross member. it looks as if some point in its life someone must have put too long of mounting bolts in it and thus it cracked/pushed thru to the tanks chamber? I say this because When I removed the mounting bolts today a bunch of teflon tape came with them along with all the coolant at the bottom of the tank. was this normal on these aluminum tanks to have the mounting bolts protrude into the water passage. or did it get punched thru with to long of a bolt??? Anyone have a good lower tank for a western? Trent
  3. very sorry to hear this sad news. Please know we are here for you and we will be thinking of your family.
  4. When I replaced the torque rod on my camelback I pulled off the ball and socket type and it was replaced with the end just like your new one. they are stiff... If the new rod is the same length you should be ok. I recall the mechanic had to pull on the axle so things lined up. once he got all the nuts started we drove it home.
  5. Looks like a Heavy spec R model...Dont see many of these working around Chicago anymore.
  6. About 20 years ago I bought my first R at a hobby shop for $20....5 years later I would buy these R model Kits for around $85 each from catalogs when they were out of production. Now in the last 10 years it seams they have done 2 re runs of these kits. as soon as they get hard to find they are over $100...I think I will be grabbing up a hand full of both the R and Cruiseliners while they are $35 each.
  7. never drove one but I thought they made for a great straight truck. I recall a local fleet that had red RB tractors pulling end dumps. They looked up to the task but I have not seen them in a while. I know ABC still had a few and possibly North field Block has a few left running around.
  8. I saw some on Ebay and other on line hobby shops. I decided to put in a order with my local Hobby shop as they get in shipments every week and the price was the same as it would have been with shipping...I try to buy from the LHS when Its not way over priced vs online stores.
  9. I know we have some model builders on here. AMT re released the R model kit again this week. better to pay $35 than $100 when they sell out again. The Cruiseliners will also be re released in Fall. Just thought some of you guys might want to know. Trent
  10. When was the RB introduced? I think it may have been late to the game?
  11. I think they have a old R model tractor as well parked in that Elgin yard. You can see it from US20
  12. that swing out step looks welcoming... I just wonder how complex it is and if its prone to maintenance?
  13. I saw a cabover push a car sideways thru Hubbards cave on I-94 east bound right thru the Chicago loop. About 4am in the snow. The truck was in the center lane and I was in the far right. The car came flying down the on ramp. Car cut in to early and rolled onto the trucks front bumper. I got on the CB to let the driver know he was pushing a car as he was not showing signs of slowing down. his responce....."yeah.....I saw that...idiot keeps honking at me"....... This guy took him for a ride thru hubbards cave to the I290 interchange about a 1/4 mile away. I pulled over with him and gave him my info as I saw everthing. Never did get a call so I guess he did not get the ticket? some times you just got to remind people how things work in the world..
  14. I cant comment on the 460 motor but the For a 95' with a 427 it shows 24-32 psi is the normal range.. I do recall a ECM flash that was very popular for the Etech but the EPA made Mack Kill it off years ago ...
  15. They still use this truck ...Its pretty beat up but it runs around alot. I like the custom Grill...(not)
  16. The small wheels and short bed do not help it but it still is better looking than the blue thing i posted
  17. I dont think it has any filtration device in side of them. the ones I have seen were just a tube that was vented to under the engine.
  18. I can already hear it rattling apart from here...LOL
  19. I have noticed that Mack has slowly been lousing its grasp on the mixer and Garbage truck market. In the last few years a few local concrete companies were purchased by another company. The new parent companies were already buying KW's and they stopped buying Macks. Same with Waste Management. They had almost an exclusive Mack fleet but now I see lots of new Petes both in the low entry cab models and the roll offs. I'm afraid to say that around here, it seams that only the smaller "family owned" fleets that run in the off road are still holding on to Mack. Besides UPS, I don't see Mack as a strong leader with fleets these days.
  20. The red one is a little over the top for me as well but they kept it looking fairly stock with just modern flashy stuff. I hate when people chop the cabs and windows thinking it will look better.
  21. I have not been to this show. but from what I have seen of it im not all that impressed. It seams more of a modern truck show event than a industry event. If I wanted to see trucks I would go to a ATHS or local truck stop event.
  22. I dont know if im more upset with the blue truck or to as why they parked the nice red R model next to it.. As they say, to each their own... There was some hard work put into it but It does not match my style at all...
  23. I will just leave this here....
  24. Volvo/Mack 18%.....what is the % if we separate those two?
  25. That had to be Fun Larry. Nothing like having raw power at your fingertips. I live near the IRM and go there every year for the car shows. im very lucky to live near it and able to see all the old Iron that shows up there. 2 years ago I was at a R/C construction event in Monticello IL. The town has its own RR museum so I stopped in on a early Sunday morning to look around. Its kinda in the middle of nowhere but just off the interstate. While taking photos of the depot one of the museum locomotives moved out of the shop and slowly crept up on me. The engineer stopped with the steps right next to me, leaned out the window and asked if I wanted to go for a quick trip.....Im 35 years old and I was like a kid in a candy store. I climbed up into the cab and off we went!.... He was heading out to pick up some grain cars that the museum interchanges with other class 1 railroads. They do this to generate income for the museum. We went north a few miles and picked up a string of about 30 grain cars, had to walk the train to release the hand brakes on the cars . then brought them back towards the museum where I jumped off so they could head into town to drop them......Spent about an hr and a half with the engineer. This was in a old IC GP11 with the classic EMD engine. It was a memorable day for sure!
