  1. GDash- 53-56 pretty much the same body style with minor grill changes and in 56, they went to full wrap around windshield. I've always said-and of course a matter of opinion -that the 53-55's had about the most timeless design. Show some non truck person say a picture of a 55 and then say a 2005 and I would bet they would never say they were looking at a 50 year time span.
  2. D-Diesel- agree-thought the same thing that this GM deal would take the place of Ford at Navistars Escobedo plant. But if these are going to be class 4 and 5's as opposed to the Ford deal which was class 6 and 7 using the Navistsar 4000 series chassis, does that have something to do with it? Are the Navistar TerraStar class 5's built in Springfield-that might explain it. How about it KSC-your spin?
  3. GM and Navistar reach commercial vehicle agreement DETROIT and LISLE, Ill., Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Co. and Navistar have reached a long-term agreement to develop and assemble future medium-duty, conventional cab Class 4/5 commercial vehicles, allowing Navistar to strengthen its product lineup and GM to expand its Chevrolet commercial truck portfolio. "Bringing medium-duty conventional cab trucks back into the portfolio strengthens Chevrolet's commitment to providing commercial customers with more choices and one-stop shopping for a versatile lineup of trucks, vans and crossovers," said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales. The future products will be jointly developed using Navistar's expertise in rolling chassis configurations and manufacturing capabilities, and GM's commercial components and engines. The vehicles are slated for production in 2018 and will be manufactured at Navistar's facility in Springfield, Ohio. Navistar plans to add 300 jobs and invest more than $12 million in facility upgrades and state-of-the-art equipment to produce the new vehicles. "Our collaboration with GM is another example of our customer-centric, open integration approach—providing our customers with the best technologies available," said Bill Kozek, president, Truck and Parts, Navistar. "By working with an industry-leading company like GM, we'll be able to enhance our medium-duty product portfolio and leverage our scale and expertise in manufacturing medium-duty trucks." Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Additional product information will be announced later. .
  4. No such thing as boring when you are talking history! There was another Acar very similar to yours that was on Craigs or ebay motors a year or so ago-at least it was orange!.
  5. If the pix are any indication, seems to me those two were very good deals-am I alone in that thought?
  6. Won't be long before this work goes to Mexico-although sounds to me with such a high percentage of workers on temp status and at such low labor rates the Mexicans probably make as much. This to me sounds like stupid management-or should I say truly greedy management? As for KSC's comments about the Mack cab production being done in a run down plant that exists because of its proximity to Winnsboro, that contract can't be long for this world. Let's see- who is i that business in close proximity to Macungie? Is CVG a Brit company or American owned?
  7. As for 650/750-maybe-but there is another school of thought that 650/750 will end up with a cab specifically designed/built for medium duty to include the E-450 cut aways. Ford builds a lot of those and the E-450 is last model using old E series nose. 650/750 and E cutaways now built in Ford plant at Avon Lake Ohio. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out. And BigDog-10-4 on the aluminum bashing while they work like crazy designing their own aluminum truck. The CAFE regs don't play favorites!
  8. RR- Wild thought- do you have to worry about antifreeze doing a number on that tire valve seal? Just make sure cap is on tight???
  9. No Jim- all prior conversations are forgotten at that point.
  10. And add to your parts inventory, the ability to be creative. Now this is timely as I'm getting all kinds of grief about my "inventory"- be it surplus wood, azek, or steel. The "you never know when you are going to need it" argument is under attack.
  11. F-Model-any chance that system might make it into a truck at Avon Lake? In any case nice to hear some American talent is going into the Cargo.
  12. F-Model-any chance that system might make it into a truck at Avon Lake? In any case nice to hear some American talent is going into the Cargo.
  13. "Lay us off because of no orders? Well we will show them". Brilliant!
  14. biggest challenge Ryder faced? Finding decent looking "lady" wrenches- yes wrenches-not wenches! -and if my wife saw this post I would be dead!-make that..."deader" Agree by the way with everyone elses posts- duh- yep gross physical damage-how is your eyesight!
  15. KSC- THX for this bit of history. I was in the middle of buying a couple of new tandem straight jobs for a lube oil operation we had when the tank supplier called me with the news-. I called a dealer I was doing business with and he had no clue! Sad day. F'liner stole the business and bought a lot of market share for peanuts. Another Jacque Nassar "achievement"
  16. Watching the "Five at Five" on Fox tonight. Dana Perino nailed it IMO when she said words to effect this is a situation that calls for governments and their military to take the action to correct the conditions that are causing these people to flee. Again, We and the EU can spend all kinds of money trying to accomodate resettle these people or the money can be spent to correct the conditions that are CAUSING the dislocations. Many would say-"none of our business" but we end up paying anyway-so what is the best option??? and by the way-looks to me like for every one that looks like a true "refugee" fleeing from some horror, I seem to see some young dude with nice clothes and a cell phone- like-"where's the free stuff"??
  17. Guess Ford Otosan doesn't do "wrong side of the road" tractors?
  18. With a fair amount of fire truck front endfailures in the news, I would say wise choice!
  19. OD thx- to respond, I have to treat thisas a new message rather than clicking on the "quote" block. By the way, MacBook pro here-does the maleware site work on Macs? and to "send" this I have to click on "more reply options"
  20. Late question- is the front suspension independent??? In any case, very nice looking piece and it soiunds like you guys put a lot of effort into its functionality..RotoRay excluded!
  21. Well I just finished a 1100 mile RT out I-84/80 to western PA towing a tandem U haul 6 x 12 open top to pick up a 1500 pd. Land Pride power rake. The fools at Uhaul still have the ban on renting to Explorers so I could not use the wifes 2010 Explorer 4.6 3V/6 speed with 7300 lb factory tow package. instead I borrowed no 1 son's 2005 F-150 crew, 5.4, 167,000 miles. Old girl did great- over 14 mpg, AC never skipped a beat and if you had her up to say 2100 RPM when you hit the big grades, did a good job of holding OD before it would jump out of OD. Now may be my imagination, but it did seem, the truck most likely struggling on some of those long grades, just happened to be a Volvo. Must be most Volvo operators tend to load to a higher GCW than operators of other makes???
  22. When I look at the money the EU is paying to deal with this situation the thought comes to mind what if those funds were directed at remedial efforts at the source countries? does this mean military action to protect these people in their homelands? Perhaps in some cases. But if some order were brought to bear, I'm sure the rebuilding efforts alone could offer these lost souls some opportunity thy likely will never receive across the new their new surroundings.
  23. Well Maddog, no argument about the 7.3. As for 6.0, 6.4, another story-best way to describe those two is "designed by committee" and between Ford and Navistar they couldn't agree on too many critical issues. As for Ford diesels, don't think there were too many bad things about the Ford 6 cyl ag motors that replaced the 3208 in the mediums-their downfall was they were dirty I believe and it would have cost too much to clean them up. Regarding 6.7, as KSC has educated us, designed by AVL of Austria and built by Ford in Mexico. Been out what- 4 or 5 years now? Saw a post somewhere recently about Ford techs still having plenty of 6.0/6.4 work but the 6.7's are not to be seen in the service bays with any regularity. Hope its true. JerDan wrecker dealer in my area seems to move a ton of 450/550's with lifts and there is a local Altec operation and in their yard, Fords in the 19,000 lb and under class outnumber everything else by a huge margin-mostly 6.7's-awaiting buckets. Like I said, 6.7 at 33,000 to 37,000 gvw will be a make or break case and I can't believe they would be dumb enough to bet the farm on this motor as their sole diesel option if they had not tested to the max.
  24. thx guys. further point-to do this response I had to select..."more options"- just response block doesn't work
  25. So what gives? Is it my Mac Book or is there a system problem. I get a continual "message" indicator but it is always some ad gimmick. Also if I try to respond to a post, it will not bring up the response block. Is it me or a system problem?
