  1. I guess if you are backing up to a concrete pump, a rear discharge does the job-and at a cost effective up front price. But it seems around here most of the new purchases are front discharge. Once contractors get used to the ease of working with front discharges, they don't want some guy backing on to the job site and jumping into the truck every two minutes to reposition. I'm sure in the big fleets can justify a good mix of front/rear but it seems the smaller guys have to make the decision as to what works best for MOST of their customers. You can still feed a pump with a front discharge AND the residential foundation pour goes a lot quicker. Much more flexibility but for sure at a higher upfront cost.
  2. Again, don't see how this can work. 5000 trucks a month in class 7 with 6 builders and about the same in class 6. And from a logistics perspective you are trucking components all over the place and two "builders each have to get their "cut" ( Alkane and Agrale). Or are these guys getting some sort of govt. handout from the state? To say nothing of the preference for conventionals in the US. If if the cab over market was that attractive, think Ford would be bringing the class 6/7 Cargo components in from Brazil??
  3. Amen-thank you Amazon! And every 4th truck is a Swift going to the Amazon DC, and every 3rd is a JBH container headed to the same location, etc etc. Oh-and the 7th? a drop deck loaded with Bridgeports coming from a plant that just shut down-he is headed to an auction site! Sad state of affairs.
  4. Thx Jim- I knew they were not in good shape-shocker to hear they were buying used tractors. Wow how times have changed remember the old days in the late 60's early 70's when it seemed every fifth truck on I-90 was a "Big R"!
  5. Very good-or perhaps the flat brimmed "baseball" hat normally worn over the ears ALSO fell over his eyes!
  6. Roadway (YRC) is that hard up they are buying used tractors?
  7. As always-"Caveat Emptor".."let the buyer beware". This outfit frequently posts large quantities of 24 " rubber. I believe a lot of them were Chinese . This is the first time I have seen Goodyears advertised.
  8. Heads up for anyone looking for subject tires. Joseph Equipment, Manchester NH has an ad in Mar 15 issue of Truck and Equip Post. 150 of these "new" mounted "on rims". As usual no pricing info in their ad. 603-641-8608
  9. Very nice Matt- what is your method that keeps the overspray in control? Your shop looks clean!
  10. Rich- very nice-will look good at the show in October with the boom fully extended and a big American flag on the end!
  11. Good point-and closer look says the conveyors look like they are sitting on temp cribbing. Also doesn't look like standard rail gauge
  12. Agree-off loading hopper cars-looks like maybe early stages of installation because you would think they would have pits under cars where the conveyors would be positioned???
  13. Likewise congrats-and Hatcity right on! 40+ years ago as a terminal mgr, I would have all these guys come in with their new "class 1 ( a)"s. and with no experience looking for a haz mat job no less. My speech was always the same-in short.."get yourself some road experience in a straight job"
  14. Don't see any chains lying on deck-would have to think enough of an angle and too much "steel on steel" on ramp/beavertail and off it went??
  15. Kevin, Thx-even a blind man like me can see the rear dif! I can't believe that conventional configurations don't make it even in these heavy off road applications. The premium cost for these high tilt configurations has to be significant.
  16. 123 or 127????
  17. Impressive-thx for the education! Looks like a stock Binder hood off a 7400!
  18. wow- $875,000 per copy! Just wondering-all that "blast survivability" equipment, but would a burst from a AK-47 through the engine compartment disable this vehicle? I can't imagine there is any armor plate under that fiberglass nose or is there?
  19. THX BC-Interesting article.
  20. Wow-I'm asking questions about wings on a 19,500 lb F-550 and you have something on a half ton? any more pix? How is it attached?
  21. Any clue who the customer was? First thought too big for logging-maybe oilfield work in middle east??
  22. Rich- sounds like a home run-hard to believe that is a 99. And an owner operator in what I would call light duty-residential roof trusses! Take it easy getting used to it. See too many of these tree guys around here who either don't look at their charts or don't think they need bigger pads on the ground!
  23. Very nice Rich-Not the usual Hertz, United, Sunbelt cast off!
  24. I hear you Kevin on the horns. I assume the install is much cheaper bolting to the bumper plus no worries about roof penetrations leaking. But did I read correctly that Mack was offering an option for a roof mounted lanyard? Horns still behind bumper but driver's ego is saved when a kid gives him the arm pumping motion! Hah-when I was working my way through school I drove a Binder dump truck Truck was registered for 24,000 gross and I used to CARRY 12 ton of asphalt or graded base. Juice brakes so when kids would give me the "horn motion" I would reach up to roof like I was tugging on something while tapping the horn button on steering wheel! Kids beside the road and bigger kid driving the truck! As for the JMC Cargo I would have to believe that body work is a bit more expensive than the Otosan version.
  25. My god they'll never make it! Air horns on the roof! Deduct .00016 MPG! Almost as bad as stand alone turn signals that are clearly visible and don't get lost in the glare of headlights!
