  1. FWD Thx for the radio info. Explains it all. I saw another clip that said they declared a Mayday with just 90 seconds before impact so quick action on PD in stopping traffic when they did was huge-no cars went in water just the poor souls working. Had this been a DOT crew they probably would have had radio contact but contractor crew-doubtful.
  2. Nice! V-8 right? I'm confused though-you said 401. the big Binder V-8 was a 549, then there was a 478? then smallest one?? 401? ALSO ONE OF THE BIG SIXES WAS A 401???
  3. the guy on "Whats going on in Shipping" had a screen image that showed ship in channel at 8 knots...that equals 9.2 MPH . Ship is 100,000 tonner..."talk about Mass in Motion". My first thought too on dropping anchor (s) and one report said one was dropped...but how close to bridge-plus anchors have to "bite".
  4. Correct on power loss before impact. What I don't understand is, they managed to shut bridge down before impact but did not notify the crew that was on bridge patching potholes?? You can see their flashing yellow hazard lights as drifting ship was approaching. 3:55 just now Maryland gov is praising effort to shut down bridge access before impact. Confirms what I'm saying .... what about repair crew????
  5. Two tugs got it away from berth. Looks like once ship was in channel it was on its own.
  6. Go to "what's going on with Shipping". This is a guy who knows his stuff - no bullshit. From what he is saying this was a power failure as evidenced by heavy smoke when they refired. A real tragedy., Now we have to listen to Pete Buttigieg who usually doesn't know his ass from third base.
  7. No 1 cause of all the violence and disrespect for law. But that fact gets ignored by too many "experts"
  8. Correction I did some checking and in 93, they went to five axles and a 7,500 gal tank.
  9. For sure Mack was using Allisons in DM's in late 60's. In New York city gasoline could only be hauled in a steel tank with max capacity of 3000 gallons. Can you imagine the number of trucks needed to satisfy the five boroughs with gas at 3000 gals a load? I drove some that I think were DM-400's with Allisons, Scania power-"Mack" 475-don't remember what HP was but newer trucks were DM-600's with Allisons and V-185 Cummins V-8's. Always thought those motors should have been installed with velcro fasteners to make swapping out easier.๐Ÿ˜Ž I think today the city has graduated to 7200 gal aluminum tandem trailers with single axle tractors. Everything regulated by NYC fire dept.
  10. Senator Kennedy always nails the subject. Too bad he never ran for the White House but he probably has to much common sense to do that.
  11. Hah..that says it all..like cutting the concertina wire!
  12. And what year was that Paul ? In any case enjoy the day..thankful we have such a good ally in that part of the world๐Ÿ˜Ž
  13. Hah..what came over me..good catch๐Ÿ˜Ž
  14. Nothing funny about this...Barack's 3rd term.
  15. Uh Hippy, too late, already done!
  16. Spokes forever! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Old guy here.....Long frame rails..did you relocate the axle? What was it in its other life? Looking good in any case!
  17. Brown salt-where does that come from? I think most of the stuff coming into boston is "dirty white"
  18. For you ATHS members check out the article in the new edition of Wheels of Time. Article is a bit confusing as the author IMO mixes up his story and confuses the blue KW with the new truck. He talks about adding a 4 x 4 then runs the article into the new truck..obviously the new truck has no such thing. What amazes me is the electric motors look very complicated in that the motors are mounted to what appears to be a conventional differential so unlike a diesel electric locomotive, there h to be some sort of gear set up that converts motor shafts from "east/west to north/south". That set up had to cost a fortune to assemble..unless someone is making them as a production item??? Any of you Cat guys familiar with the D7E? I assume those motors are direct to the drive sprockets?? And if you go back 70 years or more the LeTourneu scrapers, articulated rear dumps were that way. His drive system was called an electric wheel hub motor.
  19. Still wish they had squared the upper corners of the hood..give it a real A-car look. And if they rounded it for aerodynamics, we are talking about a vocational truck, not an interstate cruiser.
  20. Hah..I had the idea they would be good if you wanted to take your goldfish for a ride!
  21. EJ Per-Lux "fog" lights? I remember..after a while you could see the water accumulating in them!
