  1. Which eaton gearbox do you have in yours?
  2. Mate, I think the 12 speed is the same as a 10 speed, but with two low range gears. My dad has a 12 speed, mine is a 10 speed and I like both boxes. What issues dos you have with the 9 speed?
  3. Do you know if the mack 18 speed would use the same set up?
  4. Sorry to dig up and old thread, but would it be easy to retro fit an electronic speedo in my R model? Has a 10 speed.
  5. I reckon that with tapered bearings (larger inner/smaller outer) you need to keep putting grease in the smaller outer bearing. But with oil, and with an oil cap, you can fill it a lot higher so more lube gets to the smaller bearing. With the advent of parallel bearings I'm not sure if that's an issue. We have a trailer with k hitch axles (parallel bearing) and they come with a 1 million km warranty.
  6. Good topic. Off the top of my head here are a few things I can think of. You don't have have to pack oil bearings. I just squirt some moreys/Lucus oil stabiliser in it before installing. Grease bearings don't do this to your brakes if a seal goes. I reckon the bearings would be the same, just different seals.
  7. Another idea I'm throwin out there. Is the hand priming pump worn at all? Had a land cruiser years ago which had a buggered primer pump and it caused a few dramas.
  8. My cat needed priming over night some time back. Replaced both check valves and fixed the problem. Might be worth a try.
  9. Well done Dave. Grab yourself a cold one and enjoy the moment. Let me know how it goes when you get the pump timing done. My dad has an e7 400 and would like to hear your results.
  10. A little history about that truck. It's actually a t404 sar. Kenworth first made the sar back in the mid 70's. It ran they until 1987. Then in about 2003/4 they re released it as the truck you pictured. The sar stand for "short australian righthand drive" and was the first Kenworth designed in Australia.
  11. I think someone was pulling your leg about the 600 cummins in that truck. I think 550/580 was the limit. Nice truck but, sharp looking!
  12. Cheers Felicello, I mite add to get a decent panel beater as around the rear window you'd want it close to perfect.
  13. Sorry I didn't catch this sooner. We bought a wrecked cab for $500 and had a panel beater cut it and install it into out cab. Inside panel was also done. It's a very good job, and once painted I doubt anyone will pick it.
  14. I happen to like the look of 10 stud hubs. Spider hubs are lot easier to change. I guess it's everyone's personal preference.
  15. I love the dash. I've been trying to find someone to cover one like that. Not many people want to touch it. Looks great.
  16. I know the petrol ones like to drink as much as Mel Gibson!
  17. It's certainly the weather for it. I just hope it doesn't cost any lives, or too many homes. And I think I'll die a bit inside if I find out that it was started by an arsonist (arseholes)!
  18. I think it's great you spent 43 years at the same job! My generation jump from job to job, always chasing that extra buck. Well done, and enjoy retired life.
  19. Ok, let me see if I can post a link. Not sure if it will work but I'll give it a go... http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/36593-new-turbo-new-aftercooler-pump-turned-up-equals-fun/?fromsearch=1 Hope it works.
  20. There was a guy on here who played around with his e7 350 and got great results. If you search these words "new turbo, new aftercooler and pump turned up equals fun" you should be able to find it. Hope that helps.
  21. Well I went straight to the horses mouth and rang mack in wacol. Their price was $2300 for both sides. I then tried gleemans here in Perth. $500 for the hub, $200 for the drum, I'm guessing $50-$100 for wheel seal and im gonna use my bearings as they are nearly new. So about $1600 for both. Not sure if they are using the same brand parts.
  22. Did you end up doing the conversion? I'm pricing up the same thing now. It pays to shop around, one price I got was $2300, and another was $1600.
  23. I wouldn't be brave enough to guess a price. But tec brake do engine brakes for the mack engines. Apparently they do the replacement parts for Jake brakes also. I'd get a price from them, and speak to a good mechanic about installing them. We have an e7 with dynatards and they aren't great. My e6 has Jacobs but they aren't working just yet. Good luck.
  24. I really like your superliner too. Envious of your shed!
  25. Hi. I've been in a similar situation. My local cummins dealership wanted something like $3500 for a remanufactured turbo, and you have to give them your old turbo so they can rebuild it to rip some other bastard off. But a local fuel injection place can do brand new ones cheaper and you've got your old one to rebuild. So my advice is to try a local, good quality fuel injection place and try them... Hope you can get it sorted.
