  4. Outer bearing on the 44 reads timken hm-617049. Outer on the 38 reads timken hm-617010. My truck started life with 34,000lb diffs, but when I bought it there was a 38 at the front and a 44 on the rear.
  5. Just checked my 38 diff for you any. And yep my inner bearing is a 598a. Also is a pic of the two different length spindles. 38,000lb 44,000lb So my 38 spindle is about 8 inches long, the 44 is 9.25 inches long in case my pics are hard to see. Hope that helps you.

  7. You know you could have 38,000lb diffs. 38’s have a larger diameter spindle, and are always a fabricated housing. 38’s also have 6 bolt axles. I’ve got a 38 at our shed which is disassembled so I could grab bearing numbers if you’d like me to?

  11. The Australian ones were built on an r model chassis. Depending how detailed your model will be, you might find that info useful.
  12. Not sure if many people know this, but Volvo decided against patenting the 3 point seat belt. They thought it was too significant not to share.
  13. That’s a beautiful rig mate. Something to be very proud of. I’m doing up an ex shell r model, although somewhere along the line it was stretched and made in to a tipper.

  15. Would lower profile tyres/tires help? Also, what sort of leaf springs are on that? We just changed some trailers over from 9 leaf multi pack to 3 leaf parabolic and noticed a slight drop in height. Maybe you could convert to underslung suspension?
  16. Kevin, in a way it’s sort of like the vegemite scenario. We grow up with it and a sort of used to it. Our houses are designed and built around surviving heat, but not so much freezing weather. Plus air con helps. Paul might tell you if your working out doors you would start early to avoid the heat of the day. I always keep my hat wet. Now the polar vortex you guys are having at the moment scares the hell out of me.
  17. Apparently hay can spontaneously combust if it was wet when bailed. Sure some guys in here can explain it better than me... but I have mate who cart hay some time and when I rains it delays them a fair bit.
  18. You done a good job. I’m putting my truck in for a paint job on Tuesday. Ive seen so many clear coats lift off down here it’s not funny.
  19. Hayseed, the only thing I can think of is it’s maybe to reduce wind drag when emtee?
  20. I just was contemplating the same thing with mine. I ended up going 5 inch (twin) and think it looks in proportion with the r model cab. I think standard down here was 4 inch.
  21. This is a factory Mack mount. Not sure if would be of any use to you but it might give you a few ideas.
  22. Assembly was the time consuming part. Trying not to scratch the new paint, and lots and lots of cleaning bolts. Worth it in the end.
