Well,I was gonna leave Sunday, but ended up leaving Saturday anyway. Afterwards I was glad I did of course-I drove to Maysville,Ky. Saturday and when I left there Sunday morning I still had 600 miles to go to Endeavor,Wisconsin. It was a good load, paid me $760. After I unloaded Monday I went to Chicago to reload for Baltimore. That paid almost $300,so I had a pretty good week in by the time I unloaded in Baltimore Wednesday morning. Then I went across the Key Bridge to Sparrows Point and loaded a couple of coils for N.B.Handy in Lynchburg, dropped them at the shop Wednesday evening, then took a van load of Kyanite to Chester,W.V. and when I unloaded there Thursday morning I went down rt. 2 a little ways and reloaded at Follansbee for Richmond,Va. I was going to drop down I-79 to 68 and over to Hancock, but since the snow was up to the bumper and still coming down at a rate of 14" an hour ( note-I may not be totally accurate in my weather reports, but that's what it seemed like to me at the time,so i'm as accurate as memory allows me to be ) I just stayed on 70 to New Stanton and ran the turnpike to Breezewood, then dropped back down 70 and 17 to 95 to Richmond.Went from Richmond back to the shop in Concord Friday, dropped the van, then hooked back up to my flat and went back to Petersburg and loaded a load of piling going to Nazareth,Pa. for Monday delivery...whew!

Well it's been 9 days since the last cigarette...but who's counting,right?.. and that was an ultra light-only one all day, while I was fueling up before I left for Orchard Park.
Went to Zelienople and Fremont this week, loaded back to Roanoke out of Macedonia both times. Yesterday I went down to Petersburg and loaded 60' piling going about 10 miles North of Portage, Wisconsin for Monday delivery. Already got a load back to Norfolk out of Crystal Lake,Il. We had about 18-20 loads going up there, most on 53' trailers, but I pull a 48. I put about 3' hanging off the front ( we have headache racks on the trucks,no headboards on the trailers) with about a 9' rear overhang. I could get away with a little extra overhang on the front because the piling is all in one stack in the center of the trailer,so it won't hit the headache rack when I make a turn. Some guys are leaving tomorrow, some Sunday. I think I'm going with the Sunday morning departure. The return load doesn't load until Tuesday, and as the late "Hippie" used to say " everybody can't be first ". I used to leave after church on Sunday going to Boston and Chicago and be there at 7am Monday morning, but that's when I was A young man. If I leave pretty early Sunday I should be able to get it off by Monday evening anyway. And that's something that doesn't really bother me A lot anymore. Sometimes of course A customer may need or want something at 7am and I'll do my best to get it there, but for the most part when I get tired I'm looking for a wide spot and pull over and take a nap. The company I used to drive for,for over 25 years ( until the one A-hole dispatcher came along that I just couldn't get along with, and anybody'll tell ya if ya cain't get along with me,ya cain't get along with yourself! ),would fine you $25 (taken out of your safety bonus) for not delivering at 7 am,whether it needed to be or not. Todd told me when I first went to work for him " I'm more concerned about my trucks arriving somewhere safe and up on the wheels than I am about them being somewhere at 7 am". Makes sense to me. I have unloaded in Fremont,Ohio on Monday morning, sitting there when they opened, loaded back to Lynchburg,Va and was sitting back in Fremont Wednesday morning before they opened, loaded back to Lynchburg out of Sharon,Pa, and was back in Fremont Friday morning when they opened. But if I hadn't unloaded until after lunch every time,it wouldn't have made any difference at the end of the week. I would have still ran 3 Fremonts that week, and that ain't shabby.

I found out quitting smoking is ridiculously easy-all you gotta do is not do it anymore! Now that I know that,i'm gonna run over to 699 Market and get me a pack...no,can't do it. I know from past experience, having quit several times before. And I don't mean quitting for 39 minutes,I mean quitting for years-then starting back. Once I was over at the hunting cabin, hadn't smoked for years,quit- A man named Dennis got the last cigarette out of the pack, crumpled it up,dropped it on the coffee table and said " see y'all tomorrow,i'm going home" and left. I picked up the pack to throw it away, and said "this pack ain't empty, there's still one in there-i'll just smoke it". So I did...next thing ya know i'm en route to the store to get me a pack. Then Henry was over at the house one time, and said " here, have a Newpote". I said " thanks, but I don't smoke,I quit". He said "quit?! awh, come on man, smoke a Newpote with me-besides,one ain't gonna hurt 'ya!". So I did,and it wasn't long before I said "hey man-can I get another one of them Newpotes?". When somebody said ''We're going to the store-anybody need anything?",I said "yeah-pack of Newpotes!". I know you're wondering-yes,alcohol was involved. Then there was the time-well,never mind, you see what i'm saying-I've done that time after time. Must be like a recovering alcoholic I guess, when they say they're one drink away from being back-I understand what they mean. You can't smoke just one, can't take one drink,or you have to start to quit all over again. I can kind of take it or leave it when it comes to drinking, but I like a beer as much as the next guy.In fact,i'm having one now...and it would be so good with a cigarette...but ...it's been 4 days-I can't promise I won't buy a pack tomorrow, but i'm not going to tonight.
And I went to Fremont,Oh. Wednesday...cold as a-and snowing across W.V... Turnpike was clear though.Just getting to the Turnpike, and after you get off it, can be a problem though. Loaded at Macedonia and unloaded in Roanoke Friday morning, now loaded for Zelienople,Pa. for Monday. Might even see Big Jim,he's going to Zelienople too. He's my best friend,we talk on the phone regularly, but seldom actually see each other in person. We're always on opposite ends it seems.

I'm off until tomorrow,so today I had the traditional New Years meal of blackeyed peas and greens. They were mustard greens, but mustard, turnip, kale, they all taste about the same to me-I like'em all. Creeces are the best, but hard to come by. They say the greens are supposed to bring you money in the new year and the blackeyed peas bring you luck. You're supposed to have hog jowl too,but I skipped on that part. I don't know what the hog jowl is supposed to represent anyway, but money and good luck covers most things I guess. I'm also gonna try to quit smoking. I had quit for 10 years or more but started back just before my wife passed away. One of the more foolish things I've done-it's A hard habit to break.

I'm back. Left the day after Christmas and went to Orchard Park,N.Y. (Buffalo area) and then to Boardman,Oh. to pick up three magnets and dropped them at the shop this morning. They said Wednesday they had a load going to Boca Raton,Florida. Long ways, but Florida ain't bad this time of year. But-Neal called back about 2 minutes later and said the Orchard Park was there at the yard, loaded on a side kit trailer, and I could get it and go,so that's what I did. So much for Florida. That's OK,I'd just as soon go to Buffalo anyway.

A little bit of video we shot coming back from the parade, headed west on rt.460 in Appomattox,Va. Don't know if this will work, never tried this before.

Well,I posted my first youtube video. Not much to it really, and kind of shaky-you know how a cement mixer rides! This was taken after I left the stoplight at Concord,Va. headed west on rt. 460,and passing by Litchford's garage. I'm only about a mile from the shop here.

Well,I was gonna try another video, but the PC is still defragmenting. I think something's wrong-it said it could take from a few minutes to a few hours, but it ran all yesterday afternoon and all night so it should be done by now! I might call old Bill back. I thought my Norton 360 did it automatically,it's set to,but Bill said Norton was nothing but trouble, and there are better free programs available when the Norton expires. It was preloaded on my computer when I bought it. My skype and eyeball chat were both working slow yesterday, with about a 20 second delay,so he called on the phone and helped me with this defragmenting process. Found out it was last done in September. I might just need to shut down and restart, but I don't want to undo anything i've already done,so i'd better ask somebody that knows what's going on.

Here's a picture of the Mack frame rail trailer at Metalsa in Roanoke, where we deliver coils to regularly.I've been running the disc defragmenter ever since about 11 am,and I might try another longer video if it ever finishes. It might work, since it downloaded this picture twice...stupid computers

I saw the results from the Cumberland County Christmas Parade .Ma sent me a newspaper clipping and I managed to get another first in the 1951-1975 antique car or truck category. The decorations I put on it looked really bad. It ended up looking like a cement mixer with a bunch of stuff hanging off it,but it always seems to be a popular entry down there. I saw lots of people looking at it,pointing at it,and taking lots of pictures of it. At least nobody seemed to be laughing and pointing at the driver.
I went to Fremont,Ohio and back first of the week and was ready to call it a week. I thought Jeff was gone to Florida, but he's not going until next week,so I went back up the road to Avon,Ohio. Besides,he gave me $200 for Christmas before I left so I figured i'd put forth the extra effort-it was just Wednesday anyway. You know what they say, " when the cat's away..." Now i'm glad I did go of course and i'll be off until Wednesday anyway.
I got my safety bonus for the year too and went to Wal-Mart yesterday and knocked out all my Christmas shopping-gift cards for everyone! I try to get a little something for the nieces, nephews, and granchildren anyway- Everyone else is on their own,but I did give some BMT calendars too.

I started raking these knee deep leaves yesterday-perhaps I should have started sooner, like a month ago.Reminds me of West Virginia's snow removal policy. I was forced to stop when the torrential downpour started...when 12 or 13 drops of rain hit me I retreated back inside. So today I tried it again and broke the handle on the rake, but I repaired it with a plastic oar handle from an old inflatable raft I used to have and half a roll of electrical tape. Got them piled up anyway,in several different piles. Now all I gotta do is get them transferred from the yard into the woods, maybe next weekend. Can't do too much in one day, it'd ruin my reputation as a world class slacker.

Just got home about 7:30 this morning.Could've been in about midnight, but I ran out of power and had to take a nap. The power plant load kinda sucked-it's near Fremont, where I deliver Kyanite regularly, and it paid about $100 more dollars than a Fremont, but when you consider that I had to go to Richmond to load, then go through two separate security checks when I got there-they looked under the hood,in the sideboxes, all the tool boxes on the truck and trailer,in the cab,in the sleeper, then after I went through 2 security gates where you pull in and a gate closes behind you before the one in front opens, they did the complete search all over again-it's just not worth the hassle. I know they're just doing their job too,but since i'm not a criminal it's kind of offensive when they get up inside the cab and sleeper and go through everything...twice.
Then I went to Masury,Oh. Thursday with a load of beams. Everybody hates to go to Masury because the load has to be tarped, winter or summer, even though the beams are stored outside on the ground at Petersburg where we load them. Apparently it somehow gets wetter if it's on a trailer, and it's hard to tarp beams without tearing the tarps up. I didn't cover the ends and still tore several holes in the tarps. After I'd been there about an hour and a half they decided to unload me,and I went on down to Galv-Tech in Pittsburgh and loaded up 5 coils for Handy in Lynchburg and dropped the trailer there this morning. Now i'm home raking leaves...well,i'm going to in a minute...maybe.

I went to the DMV office in Altavista this morning before I went to work to get the title for the mixer changed. It kind 've started out like a typical Monday morning. I had to find a notary public first,to get my official DMV antique license application form notarized. I stopped at the first bank I saw,but they wouldn't do it because I didn't have an account there. So I went down to the Altavista town offices, got it notarized, then went to the DMV office. I had to get it changed because my wife's name was on the title too,and she passed away 2 and 1/2 years ago. The first thing the woman at DMV wanted to know was if I had a copy of the death certificate...well,..no- your records indicated that one of the owners was deceased, that's why I have to change the name on the title. O.K, I'll just look it up...yep,that's what it says-take a number and have a seat until we call you. A few minutes later they called me to the counter and a man looked at the paperwork and said " I can't do this-it's got to be a supervisor.Have a seat again". So I sat back down and the guy went in the back somewhere and came back a few minutes later with a woman, the supervisor. I explained my situation, showed her the letter and paperwork, gave her the old title, and she said that's $10 for the title change. I said " but what about the one-time $50 fee the letter says I have to pay again?". She said "you don't have to pay that, you just get the name on the title changed and keep your old tags, and you're all set". Great! Here's your ten dollars,i'll see 'ya! So it only cost me $10 when I was expecting to have to pay 50 more,so it turned out to be a pretty good day after all,and having to go to the DMV for anything is usually not good. If I had mailed it in I would have sent the $50 for new antique plates, because the letter they sent me said that's what I had to do,and they would have sent me new plates and never told me I didn't need new ones so they could get that $50 i'm sure. Then I went on to Lynchburg and unloaded the coils I dropped Friday night and went to the shop and fueled, and got the rest of the day off. Gotta go to Richmond tomorrow and load some air compressors going to a power plant in Oak Harbor,Oh.

Had a long week this week, driving in snow for most of it. I left last Sunday for Orville,Ohio and when I unloaded Monday morning it was snowing and the radio said the wind was gusting to 50 mph. When I took the straps off of one side of the tarp it blew off and over the trailer and was flapping like a flag, still holding on by the straps on the other side.I finally got it detatched and it blew up under a trailer parked beside me.I struggled with it for a while and decided I was never going to get it folded,so I was waiting to get unloaded so I could just get it up on the trailer somehow and get it strapped down. When the truck at the dock beside me pulled out I grabbed a corner of the tarp and dragged it up to the dock and stuffed it under the door. Then I went inside and pulled it in and got it folded and rolled up with no problem, then did the other one the same way. All this titanic struggle with my tarps probably took 30 minutes, and the tarp was winning the battle until I outsmarted it. Went from there over to Sharon,Pa. and loaded up 2 coils and back to Lynchburg. The crane was broken at N.B.Handy,so I had to take them to the shop where they unloaded them with the forklift. Then on to Dillwyn to load a Fremont,Oh. I knew they were calling for more snow in Ohio Tuesday night,so that motivated me to get all the way to Fremont, trying to beat it. It started snowing about the time I got there, around midnight. Wednesday morning it was still coming down, with about 3 inches on top of the tarps.I had to get a broom and get up on top and sweep the snow off before I could pull them off, because it was so heavy. Again,I had much difficulty trying to fold them, not because of wind this time, but the snow.I had to fold them on the ground in the snow, and when I got finished they were about the size of a Volkswagon beetle, and weighed about 1400 lbs each ( that's just a guess ) so I had to get Troy to put them on the trailer with the forklift. Then I had to go to Macedonia to load coils for Roanoke. It was still snowing, but the roads were in good shape, plenty of salt. Ohio does a good job on the roads, they were putting brine on them from the time I crossed the state line at Marietta Tuesday night, long before the snow started falling. That's key, getting an early start on them instead of waiting until they're covered and people start wrecking, like they do in West Virginia. I made it all the way to Beckley with no problems, but when I got on I-64 and headed east it looked like they had used up all the salt allotment for the year,or they forgot 64 was even there. It was completely snow covered and I was a little nervous starting down Sandstone mountain...OK,I was a LOT nervous! I mentioned Sandstone before,if you haven't been across there it's a 5 mile 7% grade, speed limit is 45 mph for trucks, and it has 2 runaway ramps on it.I was easing down in the low side until about halfway to the first runaway ramp when it appeared to have been salted and you could see the pavement again. It was clear the rest of the way down, across the flat, and about 3 quarters of the way up the other side, then it was back to completely covered. When I got to the top there was a truck jackknifed on the westbound side,a pickup in the ditch on my side, and a car in the median in a distance of about a mile. I was trying to get to exit 161 where I was planning to stop for the night anyway. The ramp is at the bottom of a hill so I was still taking it pretty easy, running about 35 mph. A car was ahead of me about half a mile,so I wanted to keep plenty of distance in case I had to stop if he decided to slam the brakes on to see if the road was slick. Right about the top of the hill a Swift truck went by in the left lane and he must have been doing 60 mph. That's fine if you're by yourself, the hill was straight down and straight back up,but if something were to happen unexpectedly in front of him, like that car spinning out on the bridge at the bottom of the hill, there's no way he could have gotten stopped. So I finally made it into the fuel stop and parked. From Beckley to there I saw just one truck salting the road. I went on to Roanoke and unloaded Thursday morning, then by the shop for fuel, and went to Petersburg and loaded some beams going to Carnegie,Pa. Got up there Friday morning, and yep, snowing like he....uh,heck,snowing like heck. Took a long time to get unloaded because the forklift was spinning in the snow and he could barely get up to the trailer. Once he got a lift of beams picked up it was all right, then he could hardly get back from where he was putting them on the ground back to the trailer to get another lift. I finally did get unloaded of course, then went over to Galv-Tech in Pittsburgh to load coils for Handy, and by the time I left there it had warmed up and the roads were just wet,so I hammered down to Lynchburg, dropped the load at N.B.Handy about 9:30 last night and bobtailed home.Got the Cumberland County Christmas Parade Sunday. It's the longest trip of the year for the mixer, about 55 miles one way. At least they're calling for nice weather, with temperatures in the 50's!

When I was coming from Macedonia Thursday night headed to Roanoke, running with " BB Brain",somebody started yelling on the radio when we were coming down Sandstone mountain on I-64,east of Beckley. Turns out it was a Swift driver, but it could have been any number of the company drivers you see nowadays. He said "get off your brakes, you're going to burn your brakes up,have to go in the runaway ramp, and never be able to get another job with another company".Then something like "get off your brakes,I smell brakes-you're gonna die in a fiery crash.I see your brake lights, just use your jake brake,or you'll die in a fiery crash, and never be able to get a job with another company-you should kick your trainers a**!- my trainer didn't teach me like that!". And this went on for a while and I was just listening-the Swift and the other truck,I don't remember the name,it was a something-or-other express, were both in front of me,and the other truck driver never answered the Swift driver,so I finally did. As I said,I was behind them, and I never smelled hot brakes.Smelling brakes doesn't really mean anything except your brakes are working-i've had to get on the brakes hard at a red light and could smell brakes when I got stopped. Now,if you can't see the truck for the smoke, and it looks like a burning brush pile coming down the mountain, that's a different story. Maybe the other truck didn't have a jake.Maybe he did and it wasn't working.Maybe he liked his job and didn't want to drive for a different company anyway, but I can see why a Swift driver might assume everybody else does, because he drives for Swift. Jake brakes sure are nice, but I remember when nobody had a jake-you might see one once in a while, but they certainly were not a common item like they are today. Many times I've loaded over 50,000 lbs. of coils at Armco Steel (now AK Steel) in Middletown,Ohio and ran rt. 60 from Charleston,W.V.over to Sam Black Church in an F-model Mack with no engine brake,no power steering, and an AM radio that didn't work-I-64 wasn't even finished,it ended at Sam Black Church.Rt. 60 was the only way you could go,unless you ran the W.V.Turnpike to Princeton, then 460 over to Christiansburg, and picked up I-81. The steel usually went to Harrisonburg or Buena Vista, and that was too far out of the way to go through Princeton,so going across "Hawk's Nest" was no big deal-I still go across there occasionally, just for the adventure. It's very steep, and crooked as a dog's hind leg. So,back to the Swift truck,I finally told him "I guess if you didn't have your jake brake and power steering, and GPS,satellite communication with dispatch, cell phone, and color TV,you'd just park it at the top of the mountain quit, and walk home, since you don't have any brakes except your jake brake".He said "oh no,I could drive this truck without a jake brake-or power steering". I kind of doubt that he could,if he had to run the old road, but it's all he's ever known, having all the modern equipment. That last curve at the bottom of the mountain going into Rainelle would probably be the end of him, like it's been for many others.

Cheswick,Pa.-that's where I went. I remember now, since I've already been there and back. I called Tina, one of our drivers who had been to this jobsite before, and after I talked to her I was beginning to regret taking this load instead of the pipe going to Anderson,S.C. She said it was very cramped, they sat all day waiting to get unloaded because they were pouring concrete, and concrete trucks were in and out all day until 5 o'clock that evening. She also said you had to go down a steep hill and drive onto a barge to get to the island where they were unloading, then they had to be pushed back up the hill, and they had to pick the back of their trailers up with a crane and move them over to make the turn through the gate at the railroad tracks to get out. Geez, what have I gotten myself into here? Usually if you're expecting the worst,it's never that bad. I made it in,you had to cross the tracks and make a hard left after you crossed the tracks but you couldn't pull very far forward through the gate because a crane was set up there, then hug the chain link fence on the left, because then you had to make a hard right to go down the steep cut they had made in the bank, but again you couldn't pull very far forward to make the turn because of a pile of stuff they had on the ground, and there was a little green thing on the right-looked like a gas meter or something-that you had to clear before you turned. I had dumped the trailer air on the back axle and locked the power divider in at first, and made all the turns with inches to spare. When I got down the hill I had to get over as close to the air compressor parked on the right at the bottom to make the hard left onto the "bridge" which was actually barges side by side across the river. When I talked to Tina I thought they put the truck on a barge and floated over to the island, and I wasn't too sure about all that! But I felt pretty good about the bridge when I saw them drive a bulldozer across it before I went across. So I made it onto the bridge and went across and got unloaded, turned around, and went back up the hill OK,and made it back through the gate without having to pick the trailer up and move it over. I should mention that I had a 48' trailer, and the others had 53s, and like I said I had only inches to spare on all the turns, including getting onto the bridge. I reloaded at Macedonia,Oh. for Roanoke and unloaded there Thursday night. Yesterday morning back at the shop Todd gave me a choice of another load of piling to Cheswick or kyanite going to Orrville,Oh. I went with the Orrville.

Made the Fremont turn, and brought coils back to Roanoke again to the frame rail plant. After I got unloaded I loaded some rails and took them to Rustburg,to the school bus place. Now I've got to go load some 51' beams in Petersburg at 10 am tomorrow going to...gee,I forgot. But it's in the Pittsburgh area,on rt.28 just north of the turnpike.Had some leftover turkey and sweet potato pie for supper, still delicious.Had turkey sandwiches for lunch this week that I took with me. Now i'm just waiting for a tape i'm copying from a DVD for Big Jim to finish, and i'm gonna turn in.I gave Big Jim a BMT calendar, and he said he was going to keep the mixer picture and frame it when the calendar's out dated.I told him i'd be glad to print one for him so he could keep the calendar intact,so I did. I'm very proud to have the picture of it on the calendar.

Since I had pictures of the whole turkey smoking process,I might as well show how it ended-with all the meat that was left pulled from it,placed in a pot with potatoes, onions, celery seed, and some thickening (flour and water),little salt and pepper...it's what Mama used to call turkey hash, and it's better than the turkey was! There's one of them sweet potato pies there too.

Done smoked that turkey-kind of blackened, but delicious. Hated to break in a new oven on the Thanksgiving turkey, but I didn't have much choice. This gas oven has a single bottom, where my old electric unit had two bottom panels, with an empty space in between. These pictures show the finished product, plus some extra drum sticks, the fire box, oven smoking, and plattered turkey. The sweet potater pies were delicious too, some of the best i've ever tasted-wait,is this the food forum,or trucks ? Oh...never mind. guess I should've resized my pictures too.

Well it's almost time for the holiday to end and get back to the real world.Gotta leave for Fremont in the morning. I got a letter from DMV this week, and I've got to get the mixer retitled, and pay another $50.My wife's name was on the title as co-owner and since their records indicated that one of the owners was deceased,I have to get a new title and tags. I don't see what difference it makes, but it makes them 50 more dollars. Nobody would have ever caught it ,but a few months ago DMV sent a form to everybody that owned a vehicle with antique tags on it.You had to fill it out and have it notarized before you sent it back,or they'd pull your tags.It just had questions about how you used the vehicle, and if you had another vehicle. Va. law restricts antique vehicle use to club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, test drives and so on,but you can't use it as a daily driver,or to and from work.A lot of people did abuse it,you see beat-up '71 pickups with antique plates on them all the time hauling firewood and beat-up '68 Biscaynes at the grocery store, vehicles people never had any intentions of restoring,or even fixing-vehicles with antique plates don't have to be inspected in Va. either. So,even though I'm good on the usage part, that's how they ran across the name on the title and hit me up for the " one time "$50 fee. again.

I hauled a load of pipeline pipe from Tightsqueeze to Anderson,S.C. Monday, and one Tuesday-3 pieces per load,it was 42" pipe 40' long. I was supposed to do it again today, but they didn't work in Anderson so I came in last night and loaded a load of kyanite going to Fremont,Oh. for Monday delivery.I was kind of glad because the traffic was as bad yesterday as I expected it to be today. There was a cop on every ramp and behind every bush in North Carolina too.I didn't get any Captain Morgan's so I bought some rum flavoring at Food Lion for the sweet potato pies, and i'm gonna start smoking a turkey early in the morning.I threw my old electric smoker oven away, and cleaned out and leveled up my new gas smoker oven that I found by the dumpster a while back.I know that sounds bad,but that's where I got it.It's in really good shape, and the old electric one was just worn out and burned out.I've cleaned it out, though it looked pretty clean to start with.I just put some charcoal in the bottom, and as it burns down I keep adding wood until the turkey's done-the longer you can cook it without burning it the better.I'll let you know how it turns out-dumpster oven smoked turkey!

They put drops in my eyes and dilated my pupils, and shined that really bright light in them. Then I went to the shop and picked up a load of beams at the yard going to Export,Pa.It was almost dark when I left the Dr.'s office and I could see pretty good.By the time I chained my load down and left it was full dark, and everything was a little blurry, and every time I met a car their headlights looked like aircraft landing lights. So I made it up to Charmco,WV about 10 pm,decided to take a nap for a couple of hours, and woke up at 6 am. Still got to Export around lunch time. Then went to Macedonia,Oh. and loaded to Roanoke, then took a load of Kyanite to Chester,WV and back to Macedonia and Roanoke.I'm off until Monday morning when I have to go to Tightsqueeze,Va. and load a load of pipeline pipe going to Anderson,S.C. Stopped by Food Lion on the way home yesterday to pick up a few things, and the bill came to $92.22.Even got a turkey to smoke in the old smoker oven-haven't used that in a while.

I got that old stew pot all clean and ready for it's next mission.I really should have done it yesterday,but...you know how that goes! I sprayed it out with the hose and it came pretty clean, then I scrubbed it and rinsed it,then boiled it out again, dumped it and reseasoned it with Crisco while it was still hot and dry.All I gotta do now is let it cool and put it away.It probably doesn't need to be reseasoned every time, but it can't hurt,as it's used infrequently. That's probably why it cleans easy and i've never had any problem with anything sticking. Now I can finally sit around and relax, which is one of the things I do best, just don't get to do it very much so I need the practice. I need some ear plugs too,'til Jobyna gets done woofing about me using her good dish towel on the stew pot and getting it dirty.Geez, what's she expect me to wipe it down with? I thought that's what they were for! I know-next time i'll use a pillow case, just to show her who's boss around here. If y'all never hear from 'ol otherdog again, you'll know what happened.
