Saw another of our drivers at the shop yesterday. He had mentioned to me before that he had a Mack jacket that I might want. I didn't know if he was going to give it to me,wanted to sell it,or what the deal was. His son had given it to him,and Mack had given it to his son because he used to be a Mack salesman. Anyway,he said he'd had it a year or two but had never worn it and probably never would. He got it out of his truck and said "make me an offer". I said "I cain't,that's a nice jacket and I might make too low an offer and offend you-might be worth 2 or 3 hundred dollars,and I ain't got that kind of money". So he said "how about 25 dollars?" "Deal!" I still owe him 5 on it,but I think I did very well. It's 100% leather,with "MACK" embossed on it and bulldogs in the lining and on the zipper thingamabob. All I need now is a big black and chrome Yamaha.

I don't know about all that,but I like the genious part.

I was talking to a Jordan Carriers driver when I was loading beams in Blytheville,Arkansas. He lived in Mississippi and used to drive for TMC. He was like myself,knew nothing about chaining up. Said the only time he ever used them was to get across Cabbage mtn. in Oregon, just so he wouldn't have to set for several hours. When he got across to the unchain area he had lost one set entirely,broken another one,plus damaged both quarter fenders and tore the light bar off the back of the truck...maybe hearing all that scared me! I was coming back from Chillicothe,Ohio once with an empty log trailer and got stuck on ice on rt.60 in West Virginia. I was sitting on a hill (of course) before you go down the mountain into Rainelle.Couldn't move.So slick when I got out I almost slid up under the fuel tank. After a while a state dump truck came by salting the road-first vehicle i'd seen. He passed and said on the cb-"you stuck?" ""uh...yeah,i'm kinda is" "arrrright then,i'll back down in front of you and dump some salt" He started to back down the hill to me and started sliding immediately. He said "whoa,that's slick ain't it?!! I'd better put my chains on". "yeah,pretty slick,or I wouldn't be sitting here looking stupid". I figured i'd give him a hand with the chains but by the time I got my coat on and got out he was done and I followed him off the mountain.

I liked the pig hauler best.

oh yeah,it is-I didn't realize that. saw several of y'alls trucks in there.one even passed me in the driveway as we were leaving,right after I took that picture.

This week I got a better picture of the dump truck and this big red Mack in Morris,Il. where I picked up a load of brick.

Here ya go...all that good bbq here and Jobyna wants to go to Altavista to the Chinese place!..guess we're heading to Altavista. That's all right-i'll load of another big container of it to take with me tomorrow. I could have unloaded those bricks in Palmyra today right after lunch,but I wouldn't have many hours left to do anything else, so i'm gonna go unload in the morning.

I met the man,the myth,the legend himself Sunday. I was pretty much in awe,but not so much that I didn't get a picture of him to post-without his knowledge of course. Of course,it would have been better if it were in the daylight,or if the flash worked on my camera,but as Jeff Burton says at least 17 times whenever he's interviewed-"it is what it is".

What I would do is get some undercoating in a spray can and apply at least 2 coats to the windshield. Be sure to allow at least 15 minutes drying time between each coat...and touch it up periodically...every few weeks anyway-but that's just me.

just my little 2 cents-I drove cabovers for 10 years,'79 to '89-they do not run any hotter,they have as large or larger grill area than a conventional to cool the radiator,and just make sure there's no loose items like drink bottles or anvils in the sleeper when you jack the cab up and you'll be fine. I liked the ones I drove (IH Transtars,GMC Astros,F-model Macks,K100 Kenworths)and didn't want the first conventional cab (T800 Kenworth) I drove,but...time marches on, as they say. There are indeed storage boxes under the sleeper to store stuff in.
