  3. Can still be the turbo unfortunately they get sooted up and stick its the nature of the beast! and very hard to diagnose!
  4. Check the air cleaner and intake air plumbing on older trucks if its getting warm air from under the cab it will throw a 270 code for this, back then it was called (compressor discharge temp)
  5. Yup that's it! The engine was a joint effort thing same deal as Ford 6.9 and IHC back in the day ! you build an engine for us to our spec and we will call it ours!

As mentioned by Vmac Before you pull the pump remove the timing event marker MAKE Sure you have what looks like a flat blade screw driver tip in the CENTER of the hole where the timing even marker is removed from Make sure the timing mark on the fly wheel is at its timing mark usually 6-8 deg Static timing depending on model year! (should be on the valve cover) remove the pump seal what you need to seal re install the pump to the engine with the ESACT specs provided above and it will still be in time! the tool joe has shown there is a luxury not a necessity I have done many of these with out the tool and checked it afterward with the tool and it remained perfectly timed! I will see if I can upload A pic bro ! if You google 72 880 David brown its an 880 12 sp live drive two speed PTO ! the only thing I am missing is power steering it would be helpful for the stuff I do with it! I'm pretty hard on it, I mostly log with it! The saw mill is run off the pto as well! how ever as stated Its my swiss army knife around the yard, Would feel hopeless when its not running!
  8. Good point Joe ! We may have been side tracked by the original post thought! how ever it should be trailing smoke under load and pyro should heat up quickly if a leak exists Just a another thought ! A stock 350 should make roughly 24 - 28 PSI boost ,a stock 427 somewhere around 30-32
  9. I know for a fact if you go from 355/380 to 460 you will be short On boost by aprox 8 psi with the stock 460 engine file if the key is wrong ! Been there done that! and Joe never got involved in the cam check procedure ! found out by vins! and trial and error! 😡
  10. What engine powers the the Honkey tractor Rob? Nice looking unit! I have a 1972 David brown on my little claim here tough as nails! its powered by Perkins as one would expect given the name! Its my wheel borrow wy forklift powers everything I got from my saw mill to my rototiller! would love to have a 3 point mower !
  11. You may be able to change the data file how ever you may have to change the cam key not sure mac pro may chime in on this! Its getting harder and harder to work with older units as the Volvo Turds are busy in the back ground trying to dis mantle the Mack infrastructure! By making it hard if not impossible to do many of the older unit programing sequences! hopefully Pro will chime in!

  13. I know you say you have know leaks how ever I wouldn't count on it! Your symptoms are lack of air ! Cracked after cooler /Bad turbo/ air compressor feed hose /intake gaskets blown out or something I would take a second look if it were me! Limp Mode would be opposite no smoke no power! physical problem of some sot in my mind! Just sayin!
  14. Its funny how things go! We have converted quite a few magic fans back to air for the same reason! That said the new E magic fans seem to be more reliable than they were! The first Berr fan was a complete nightmare! Sourced from some sweat shop I suppose , Duno! We replaced dozens of them some would come leaking right out of the box some had to be changed before the truck left the lot!😡

The way I understood it at the time was for driver feel ! the min max setting Made the engine brake respond as if you were driving a cummins or mech engine , You had to have your foot all the way off the pedal for the engine brake to engage (NO Fuel position) .The all speed setting was as if you were driving a Mack with a normal dynatard instant response as you let your foot up even a little on the throttle the brake would come on ! Just my thoughts on this ! As mentioned above we were encouraged to set min-max for best the throttle response!
  18. Yup pretty sure its in there I know they moved things around a bit in the vmac 2 card how ever the setting things should be in tact in one of the heading! Switch status comes to mind!

  20. Our Freinds down under seem to have a better handle on the needs of the trucking industry than here in north America ! We don't pull trains here however we do have some steep terrain may be not a big enough market for their liking! Who knows ! If mack still offered the MP 10 here they would still sell just not as much as they would like !

  22. boost leak check all the hoses to the after cooler and engine
  23. After you have checked your simple stuff the rad cap ect ! Most common issues on this subject are EGR Cooler Failing Second in line are the injector cups can cause this however usually also give other issues hard starting slow to start indicaters! Water pumps fail once in a blu moon similar but not the same symtoms with over heat . our first check would be the EGR cooler
  24. Most of the changes in gearing here we used to do was to change to 4.64 due to the V8 ! Anything over 400 would eat the 4:17/ 4:42 ratios for breakfast in the offroad type settings here! lots of hills! Used rebuild lots of these top gear sets would pit out and break! the above ratios were a simple top gear set change!
