  1. My opinion of the 151 is the only good thing about it is the diff lock! KT and I disagree on its reliability ! It has some design flaws from my view point ! 92 /93 has the test of time going for it! How ever I think you closest ratio will be around 3.87
  2. Me too! By that time all the star trek stuff will be on line and the human race will be beaming our selves where ever we want to go! pluto and Mars and stuff! Won't need farmers won't need truck cars trains! Got my handy dandy replicator by Ktel! or the top of the line Fisher Paykel replicator with mind link capability's!🤣
  3. The engine with this ESI+ had at least 2 quarts of sludge that I scooped out. 🤣 For what ever reason my dad had saved some oil out of an old Detroit 2 71 Alice Chalmers HD5 Cat he owned! It sat in a 30 quart Metal milk can for at least 20 years in the back of our shop! All of the carbon settled to the bottom the first six eight inches on the top after sitting was just like it came out of a Virgin can of oil! So if your 12 years old and If you got the time to wait 20-30 years you could likely re use the oil and it won't cost you only some time!🙄
  4. The bearing has P2 stamped on it if it is altered! Back in the day we would always check the numbers on the bearing when removing them! It wasn't un common to have an engine with A P2 on a rod or one journal even on a main ! ! The rod or main cap would also also stamped P2 V8 or six!! I Don't really know why ,either they were quite fussy back in the day or just lazy and rather than doing a whole crank down 2 thou they put in a 2 thou over! on one journal. I personally doing the job your doing wouldn't mess with the bearings standard at 3 thou is good numbers!
  5. We had this tool at our shop! it had two templets one for the v 8 one for the e six 2 valve and one for the 4 valve e six! I only did this job once or twice we gave the tool to the shop that did all our head work as they did all our valve seat repairs back when the v8 had seat issues and head plaining was a deal! think it is an kent moore tool! the tool here is for Eteck How ever very similar Cylinder Head Inspection; Fire Ring Groove Cutting - Mack E-TECH SB-210-034 Service Manual [Page 201] | ManualsLib fire ring groove cutter J 29600-C
  6. All makes sense now! Ford used to use this setup on the Louisville back in the day on front Disk app! never seen it on a Mack!
  7. Terry is correct Any return line leaks can cause this ! There is a return line over flow valve RH rear of the fuel pump that can cause issues as well! Check all the jumper lins an connections and the little orings on the metal returns at the rear of the pump!
  8. I suppose your right to some degree! I am not a good one to talk to on this subject The Volvo people took a very proud group of people and disbanded them and replaced them with Volvo puppets! Very little left in the way of Real Mack know how these days ! That said ! Scania has made great strides with the v Power! Face it there is nothing simple these days ! Everything involves a computer or some overwhelming Teck of some sort. So be it A straight Six Or V8 Its Going to be a dogs breakfast of Teck! Glad to be away from it Mostly! 😂
  9. If the Volvo turds had continued advancing the V8 They may have Easily surpassed 2000 ft lbs by now ! Use the Scania as an example! The original V8 and Scania were Closely linked at one point! And The Engines would sound better! 😄 Apart from a locomotive! Nothing beats the sound of The V8 !
  10. Yup Im at a total loss as to that! It has what looks to be another valve where the rod should be on a roto chamber pot!🙃
  11. Don't get carried away ordering up stuff till you get the Cam pulled and nail down what you have there ! You may have other issues eup springs or guide pin breakage is also in the cards! pull the eups see if any springs are broke! Just sayin!
  12. We sold dozens of these back in the late eighties and 90's ! ive seen them in log trucks fire trucks dump trucks never in mixers however...... ! also I can't tell you how many mixers I have seen specked without the interaxle lock! Don"t have a clue why anyone would spec a diff for any vocational truck with out Both interaxle and diff lock on both axles! And yes the mack limited slip was the wedge and cam set up inside the diff cage! It worked ok on off road applications but as a single axle or tandem on rd application tended to bang and pop going round corners causeing one to think his diff was failing! In my opinion there is no replacement for having a fully lockable diff for any application! They blew it! The new redesigned Mack carrier they were able to ad the diff lock however they also redesigned how the crown gear and preload was applied to the top gear set! They changed the retaining bolts from 3 half inch fine bolts to One 3/4 inch yoke bolt similar to the trans yoke bolt! I don't know if they are still having issues with this coming loose cause I have retired from this for a year or two however I repaired several of these due to this ill thought out redesign ! The old story if it aint broke don't fix it!
  13. 2004 was the most embarrassing year for us as a Mack dealer ! We at one point had no less than 5 dead new trucks in the yard Robbed of parts to keep customers on the road! Mainly turbos! Fuel lines were another issue ! after they painted them selves into a corner buying cheap ass dollar store fuel lines! Fan hubs also became an issue on The AI engines shortly after! Corner Cutting, Cost them Big Time reputation wise! The AC and AI engines went on to be Fairly reliable engines after a year or two how ever.........!
  14. Mack has done this for years long before the Volvo Trash people took over! The V8 started out with a three year warranty! every year after the first year they dropped the parts that were failing fuel pumps/ turbos /most of the jobber parts were excluded from the warranty ! the main engine block and moving parts were all covered they couldn't wiggle out of those!🙄
  15. It has a uncanny resemblance to the cab over of the 80s ! We used to called them the Pac-man due to the 4 corner air bag system on the cab! they road like floating on a cloud! While beneath the chassis can be getting pounded to hell!
  16. Was this a Mack unitized hub OR jobber axle? just askin!
  17. Yup agreed! Also if you don’t got a 10 thou handy you can set the yoke by putting your thumb on the yoke turn the screw till it touches then one flat of the nut and lock it down! Done this for years on v8 e6 e7 and eteck the best part is you don’t need a dam computer to do it and the procedure never changes!😂
  18. Did it break on the same cyl twice? It could be a valve issue! Did the heads not have a warranty?
  19. I have a fair knowledge of the v8 what are your questions I will try to answer!
  20. The rear mounts you have are correct ! The front are likley correct! The later model RW had a single Rear mount! Derived from the MH cab over chassis! The RW was derived from the W cab over Chassis Also known as a cruse liner ! R Cab on a Cruseliner frame! The MH frame became a basis for the RW and the CL !
  21. So there is alot of posts on this subject on the site do a search! check the cheap and easy stuff it can be many things as simple as the fuel tank vent plugged to bad fuel lines! Start tring stuff and eliminating things!
  22. Should work fine! Never seen this happen thats a crappy situation! seen a few broken springs but never a crack like that!
