  1. Joey is thinking of a sticking rack and he may be on to the problem.
  2. To me only thing that is as good as mack rears would be the Meritor/Rockwell RD40-145
  3. And i can remember when in 1968 freight liner here was 11.00 per hr.When i started to work on trucks it was in early 1965 and mack was 5.00 per hr and in less than a year they went to 5.50 per hr.
  4. The last dealership i worked at before i retired let the parts manger for a year or so come back to a truck in the shop and order parts for a large job like a engine or trans. We got so tired of him telling us what he thinks the engine needs. And on top of that he was almost to young to shave.
  5. I had a bad shaking in the front friday and could not decide for sure what it was untill I stop and started to look.It did not feel like the front end but found a lot of mud in my left front steer rim.
  6. I hope he didnt try taking one of the chambers apart because he may not be around anymore.
  7. You have a spring chamber leaking thru its self to the service side and exhausting out there.Disconnet each service line to the brakes and release the parking brakes and you will find one leaking out of the chamber.
  8. Also does the idle pressure come back up with new oil and filters? If it hold about 55 to 60 psi when hot at 1900 to 2000 rpm there may not be a problem.
  9. Should be close to 20 psi.
  10. I am helping a friend change blocks.
  11. I can not find my E6 four valve tune up manual.I am needing to know what the pump timing is and its a 89 350. 18 degrees comes to mind but i cant guess at that. This is a robert Bosch pump.
  12. Guess what i heard to day on the news that congress is trying to start charging tax for the music you heard on the radio.
  13. A 335 did not have a aftercooler but many installed them in later years.
  14. I want to hear more.
  15. Quick trip dropped to 4.99 today
  16. Diesel here in Tulsa is 5.09 today at Quick trip so i think in a few days they will start to give it away.It was 5.79 for a couple weeks
  17. I was around B models when they were ever were.It was common to see a heathy driver with his shirt or jacket worn badly in from around his belly were the steering wheel rubed. If it has power steering or air assist on it a smaller steering wheel may be the way to go.
  18. I remember when the pattern was 5 in low range and it was a over drive 9 speed with 5th gear down to the botton right.Mack came out with a update saying on same trans to start coming out of 4th at the top right and range into hi and go to 1st which is bottom left saying the range was being made at a slower speed saving the hi/low clutches.I had one so i started to shift that way.But on a 18 speed in my CH i could not make sense in this. This is a mack trans i am talking about. The photo on the left is the updated shifting. You are staying out of over drive in low range.
  19. Same trans but new shift pattern will let the rear box range at a slower road speed saving the shift clutchs i think.
  20. I think there was a four row and a three row.But you can get a five row replacement core.
  21. I had a bobtail that for about three years i had same problem. It has two drops and i found what the problem. Both of mine and many of my friends had same problem.Too much caster. When you would hit a bump some times one or both would go nuts.Mine was about 12 to 14 degrees.I shimed them to 5 degress and you cant make them shake. Two different friends of mine did same thing and no problem. Its just like your steer axle on the truck if you turn it all the way to the left one side of the truck rises and the other side lowers. If you turn it all the way to the right one side raises and the other side lowers. So if you go down the road and hit a chuck hole then your wheel will shimmy some but with too much caster it goes nuts.If you have a big truck front end alignment shop around call him and ask if he has seen this.Set you caster and make sure your toe/in is about 1/16 you will be happy.Let us know what happens.
  22. When you plastic gauge the mains make sure and jack the crank up with jack to get the dead weight off or the brgs.
  23. joey i think run out would mean .020 off center and if the specs in the manual say that then i would be off center.I was only guessing from most engines will give about .010.I need to stop guessing.
  24. I may be wrong but i dont remember that.I have never seen one on any mack that was off center unless the block was line bored but then it would be very little off center. When we did dial them and found one off it was always a bad housing or distorded or broken. In later years on a E6 and E7 i got were i would not put a dial on one if it was a replacement. You want to see from top to bottom same and from one side to the other same and i think the reading can be as much as .010 off center.
  25. I use blue locktite on all bolt rear of block.
