  1. How about making up your own "Convoy" grille guard? If not, just get a factory grille guard.
  2. Love those movies....and Shirley not kidding.....
  3. Worn rings in the compressor will put excessive pressure in the motor as it pumps(blowby just like a typical motor). Then lessens when the unloader opens.
  4. Many times they are just gunked up. Have you checked the reversing valve, as that can cause issues. My truck had issues but after removing and cleaning the motor/reversing valve and some new air lines it will near throw the blades off it goes so fast.
  5. I typically use the direct link also. They have like 5 options, but dont try them.
  6. Ya, I use postimage.org as its free and easy to use(like photobucket used to be). Save your pictures there and they give links to use to paste a picture any place you want. You can use the "add files" in the bottom of your post and download the picture directly to the post. Not sure if there is still a limit on how many pictures you can download to BMT? I know that was an issue before.
  7. Worn rings on motor and since the compressor is pumping oil it is also has worn rings.
  8. Great work on the tanks. I polished my new tanks before installing them. I bought an 8" Dewalt angle grinder and buffing wheels. Made very short work but that big grinder sure takes a strong grip to keep control of it! One wrong move and it will throw the tank(or yourself) 5 ft away. Ask me how I know!
  9. Ya, I remember the lack of storage for all the oil we had.
  10. I bought an overhaul gasket set on Ebay when I worked on my 237.
  11. It will take finesse to get a diesel in there. They lay over pretty good to clear the doghouse in a short hood. Not very condusive to being worked on either. Great find, but along with others it will take a lot of changes to make it user friendly for your purpose. You might as well start with a better candidate.
  12. One engine I'd like to see is a cab forward. My dad had one on his HO layout and I always thought it was the coolest thing. It too had large air compressors that you could hear popping. Ive watched some old movies about them on YouTube. Btw, I still have my fathers engines and equipment from his railroad. It was dismantled back in 1976.
  13. I hung a one wire alt on my original gen bracket with some simple modifications to the adjustment swing arm. I ran a big gauge wire right to the batteries. I removed the amp meter and installed a voltmeter. That's it. The starter doesn't care on polarity. You could then hook to any trailer without problems. Like Paul said...radio or whatever can be hooked up.
  14. My B model had one originally. In a bad decision early on I sold it. I bought a Holland for it again later on. Wished I could have gotten that Fountaine back.
  15. You will have to reverse the battery wiring on the breakaway battery. If not, you will not like the consequences if you test the breakaway while truck is attached! I would absolutely make sure that there is a fuse inline with that battery just as a safety. At least a small plug in circuit breaker. This will bastardize your trailer so word of warning. It might be better overall if you switch the truck over to negative ground. In the old days the trailer you pulled didnt have battery powered brakes so it was not an issue. Today it's different with pulling small car trailers. Washington state? Or DC? Either will be a longgggg trip bobtail in a B model. I've run my truck for near 20 yrs pulling my 40 ft Haulmark box. I typically don't bobtail anymore and I have swapped air ride under mine.
  16. How big did Mack go over 65K rears?
  17. Yes, some of the newer LED lights have circuitry built in to make them more user friendly.
  18. Cut the back wall out to outline the braces. NO going back now!!! I welded a strip around for something to screw the boot to. I made a steel strip to bolt around the inside of the bunk so I had something to weld the new opening to. I formed everything myself with a stretcher/shrinker. A new alum skin Ready for new vinyl boot cover installation I had a local shop sew up the vinyl to fit the opening I mocked up What it looks from the outside(the bunk has since been painted to match the truck). Still no water leaks either. New front wall for the bunk that I made from 1/4" Luan and vinyl I've never gotten around to getting a new headliner and back wall made. It's on the "to do" list...someday. It was coming together by spring. I drove it to the ATHS national show in South Bend, Indiana a few weeks later. What it looked like just after I bought it. It's been a 20 yr on going project.
  19. I cut my down along that bracing. It's not horrible to crawl through as it is basically double the size of the original window opening. I'll get those pics posted tonight.
  20. If you can, look at the accy drive on front lower passenger side of engine. The engine model will be stamped across the top. Might have to wire brush it to see it. "ENDT676.....". Something like that.
  21. If you would get an air/electric brake controller (like I have) polarity would not be an issue. It is just an air cyl that moves a wiper over a rheostat. Polarity is no issue. It is a Warner 1300-80. https://www.etrailer.com/tv-Demo-Warner-Brake-Controller-1300-80.aspx If you use a new electronic version the issue is the blue brake wire would put 12v positive to the brakes and it would need 12v neg. Other issue is if you have any LED bulbs, they would not work due to improper polarity.
  22. Mines a 42" Benz. Yes, I did stretch the frame. I have a bunch of pictures I can share of how I cut the back of the cab. Have to wait til I get on home computer. I had dreams of building my own bunk to mimic a stainless steel model. The Benz was free....so that was a no brainer.
  23. Bob you should know that in one of my circle of friends that is my name because I can make anything work. Lol. About 10 yrs ago(when I still had dark hair), while on a business trip to Mexico.... I'm in the plant office and a couple workers in the corner point at me and mumble something. Come to find out, while I was dressed in my usual attire of jeans, boots and leather coat they said I looked like Chuck Norris. Lol. Now since I'm old and grey my gf says I look like Sam Elliot when I roll up on my harley(like in the movie Roadhouse).
  24. Possible to fabricate a new one if need be. Some 1/4" plate and a piece of radius tubing. I had to make a thermostat housing for my Galaxie with the blower on it. No one makes one the way I needed it to fit.
  25. For comparison, the Union Pacific Big Boy is 132ft long and 1.2 mil lbs. It is a 4-8-8-4 articulated locomotive. It only ran out west because it can not negotiate any tight radii. If you look on Youtube, the UP did a whole bunch of videos of the restoration. Talk about an undertaking. Restoring a truck pales in size and scope!
