My lovely wife and I went out to eat in Lynchburg yesterday for our third anniversary. Went to Texas Roadhouse, first time I'd been there in several years, since well before I retired anyway. It has to be good when the only thing I had to complain about was too much food!

Most of this is at home in the refrigerator now. I ate the small ribeye and skrimps, and a salad, Zina only had a couple of bites of her prime rib.

She had a couple of sips of this margarita, and I finished the rest, along with 2 of those large beers. I hate to waste stuff.

And we went to Elba Butcher Shoppe in Altavista Wednesday because they have a lot of gallon size cans of vegetables. We got everything we needed to make our annual stew, except the potatoes, onions, and the meat. We always get that fresh. We're going to make that Nov. 15th, so y'all drop by and get you some if you're in the area. I know Brocky would love to have a bowl of real Brunswick stew.

The steak is a lot under done for my liking 

Looks like a good feed was had 

Stew was a every day thing as a kid growing up for most people I think, or certainly were I grew up

Always reckon it tasted better the next day, cold on toast

Yeah, my little ribeye was excellent, but I agree on the prime rib. They say that's the only way to eat it, but I like my meat cooked a little more than that. It might be done, but it just doesn't look right🤣. 

However, I do know a prime rib expert, so let's ask his opinion. 1958FWD, take the floor-

I have learned to like my steaks closer to medium than medium well.. A lot more tender!! I Had a friend who like very rare beef.. We were in a group at a fairly fancy restaurant, well on the way of being very tipsy, when the waitress asked how he wanted his steak he said " trim its horns, wipe its a$$, and walk it in" She never batted an eye.. As she was serving us our dinners, the chef walked in with a totally RAW steak on the plate and asked him if he "would like it warmed up?"  As the rest of us were laughing  our a$$ off his wife was ready to kill him!!!!

Paul that steak is so big it had to walk onto the plate 😂 I went to New Zealand about 30 years back, went to a country town pub for dinner. The rib-eye covered the whole plate and was thick, I asked for medium-well done, it was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. It took me a while to finish it, a few beers to wash it down and I was full as a NZ gumboot.

During our 2015 Down Under tour of Australia as our bus was approaching Rockhampton our lady bus driver knew of a famous pub, which I can not remember the name of, and the tour director was able to make reservations and the bus driver was able to park close by and they fed the 30 of us some of the best steaks, which they called Prime Rib, we had ever had.. By this time we had made good friends with her and needless to say her steak went on one of our bills!! Ironically the next day at Tony Champion's she met some people she knew, and by the time the trip was over she was fully diagnosed with "Tired Iron Fever"!! Part of her tip was a years membership to both ATHS and ATCA..

I always order a steak medium, and the one I had was good. It was the smallest ribeye on the menu at 12 oz. I have cooked a few steaks in my time that were perfectly done, and I'll be the first to say that it was completely by accident. More often than not it would be under cooked or overcooked. Under cooked ain't bad, you can always put it back on the grill, but you can't undo overcooking it. And, again, when I put one back on the grill because it was undercooked I usually end up over cooking it.

Two of the most memerable meals Iv ever had were on holiday.One was at Niagria Falls where I ordered surf and turf...out came a steak falling off the plate all around with two king crab claws sitting on top...there was enough on my plate for all four of us........My son and I took a trip to Kiev in Ukraine to tour the Chernobyl nuclear plant and while in Kiev we went for something to eat.At the restaurant we order meat platters each. .out came a platter which had a full chicken steak lamb chops sausage pork chops and loads of sides .. and that was each.We didnt realise that the platters were meant for two people!!!!. Stuffed to the gills on both trips.....

we eat breakfast at a place in san diego when where down there family house of pancakes,,,,not only my favorite breakfast spot in the world,,,,but thier portions are huge...and always need a doggy bag....and no im not complaining,,,and paul,,,i got a chicken fried steak breakfast years ago the original perrys somewhere on rte 99 California,,same thing the meat covered the plate,,,everything else came on a second plate,,,,it was also real good but i was overstuffed

My son, daughter in law, and grandson dropped by today. My daughter in law had visited Scotland recently and she brought me a bottle of 12 year old Scotch. Very nice.

It wasn't like a huge bottle or anything, but I'm not much of a liquor drinker anyway.

And a bottle of mead... whatever mead is. I tasted mead before, our UPS guy is a bee keeper and he gave us a taste of some of his blueberry mead, it wasn't bad stuff.

Loch Lamond is a nice single malt,Iv drank it a few times.If your looking at Irish whiskey we all know Jameson's, Black Bush, and Powers but theres a new kid on the block...Slane Irish whiskey....nice over ice goes down real smooth.....Mead is made from honey some like it but I find it much too sweet......
