Curious if anyone has gone through the paces of repairing a R model dashboard, Its the original Dash out of a 1973 R600 That my schools restoring. Its got a few chunks missing out of it and has padding showing in a few spots, Wondering if anyone has ever recovered one of the padded dashes and if it works well or not before we go through the motions of doing it. Any inputs appreciated.

It has a padded dash ?

I have never seen a padded dash in R model

A few different people make new dashes, but if your not in Australia they  will be of no use to you as they are RHD

Its got plastic bits on it, However a good majority of it is some kind of plastic/vinyl with foam padding underneath. Keep in mind this truck was from late 73 when they first came out with the bigger cab and the newer dashboard opposed to the steel dash.

I think he means the regular plastic what does anybody do with it after it cracks? I have heard of guys wrapping new material over the foam with a heat gun and glue. As far as anybody knows Dash parts are obsolete.. bob

Yep they are all obsolete, This truck is from late 73', probably some of the first trucks off the line with the then new style dashboard apposed to the steel dash. its the plastic/ vinyl material with foam underneath, its not so much that its cracked and theres a few spots of the material being gone and foam exposed. thats what i was curious about is if anyone has ever recovered them before.

I tried a repair kit for something like that once . My results looked nothing like the package the kit came in 🤣

Some real upholstery guys may have a suggestion. I can think of repairs one of the local guys did here I never imagined could be done.  Good repairs usually aren't cheap.
