I was looking back on your pictures trying to find the differences between your engine and the ENDT i built a while back.

Mine had 20 bolt heads, but there are 18 bolt heads out there, my crankshaft had flywheel studs, mine had more piston rings than yours and mine did not have piston cooling tubes.

I am not smart on these, just trying to observe what you have, compared to the one i did... thanks

Friday night in the garage.

The pan is on.

Geez that was a PITA, sorta.  Lost a front big bolt, got all the rest in and the two fronts would not start.  Had to bang the pan around and they finally started.  Had to jerry rig the one bolt until I buy another but at least it is torqued down to set the RTV.

Went ahead and bolted flywheel on.

I wire wheeled the lugs and they are pretty straight yet so I won't be screwing with them.  Just will make sure new clutch plate floats good.

Did get the compressor bolted on last week.

And a new coolant line made.

I will be cleaning up the injection pump and get it bolted on next.  I can now clean up the corners of the block and wash it up for paint.

Baby steps.

I know now that the new rear seal is in, the crank is WAY harder to spin.  Wow, that tightened things up.

No, the three injectors have not come out yet.

like the working shop pictures; there must be a story behind the "Battlestar Galactic". any pictures of it??

If I remember correctly the natural aspirated Mack engines did not have the tubes and all the ones I rebuilt had the tubes because after you got done with the new liners, you would check the orientation of the tubes with a plexiglass plate the tubes shot oil up into the underside of the pistons for more cooling when using a turbo. I remember the early 3406 engines had replaceable tubes and Cat recommended them to be replaced at a milage or hours I now can't remember also you rolled in new bearings at some point recommended by Cat. I had a freightliner with a 3406 that the pisser tube broke off and it scored the piston so bad I had to do an in the frame job

Bought it in 1992, all original 289ci/spd OD.  Turned into racecar in1995 and have run it ever since.  Still a stick shift.  427 FE, 5 spd.  Has gone 10.15@130 mph.

This picture is the track I started at, Magnolia dragway.

The name is a take off from a fellow years ago that ran an original 1964 R code galaxie called "Galactic Warrior".

Liberty Equalizer 5 spd, same transmission they run in Pro stock today.  The badasses you can buy.  It's like jewelry on the inside!

18 bolt had ONE 3/4 stud in two   corners.  per head ; 325 lb torque ??? that might have been Cummins  with the 4 3/4 studs .also at 325

Not right now, but later, maybe after I retire,,, My hobby will be Mack engines and whatever else I can build or fix for those who are still keeping Old Iron Macks running..   I want to do what I can to preserve them.  I dont have children, so I hope I meet a young'n who has the heart to learn from me and keep it going.  Wishful thinking I know, but..... Hell.. I have to have someone to give my tools too when my time nears the end...  just sayin'..

Hey Mech?  Can you see that the END piston is a pencil holder? I have one on my desk at work too.

Yes Sir I did notice that. I have realized that in many instances my mind is failing; to see your posted engine pictures and others posted here . still brings a positive smile and some great engine building memories to this ole man. THANKS every one. there is an auction I found today on auction zip having unbelievable Mack memorabilia ; I didn't want to post it if possibly some one here has a bid on it . now lets not go off topic.
