Recommended Posts

I have a Sheppard 492 s 5 steering box that I removed because seal behind pitman arm is leaking.

My local parts supplier sent it to a re builder and after a week they are having problems locating seals for the

Job

Any one here have source for a sheepard 492 box?

They have Sheppard 492 Series 5    Sector Shaft seals in stock, you may be able to cross the Sheppard Number to National Seal numbers. Both inner and out seals are the same Sheppard  P/N 79148  Pressure seal assembly is Sheppard P/N 79159

I'm thinking that series was done away with or upgraded and is not really supported any longer with parts.

I could be wrong too.

My best friend retired from Sheppard in 2013 I believe.  The factory was located in I believe Hanover, PA or that general area.  Unfortunately he passed away in 2015 so I can't get any more information about their boxes.  I assume they are still in business as they made other products besides steering boxes.

I hope this was of some help.
