This is why we never paid ransom to bad guys before. kscarbel2 Posted August 20, 2016 Share Posted August 20, 2016 C'mon guys, let's keep this in perspective. The Iranians paid a hefty deposit for additional Grumman F-14s. They didn't get them. They wanted the airplanes, or their money back. The U.S. side provided neither. The international tribunal in The Hague ruled that Iran should get their money back. We were compelled to comply with the ruling, since we're always pushing other countries to observe the rule of law (and because we're pushing China to comply with the Hague ruling on the South China Sea). But, Obama refused to let the cargo plane with money depart Switzerland for Iran until he was sure that the hostages were released and airborne.
