High idle

Recommended Posts

Is there anyway to shut off whatever cause my Mack plow truck to shut off after a minute or two. We have to increase the idle with the cruise control switch to keep it from stopping, but some times we forget to set the high idle when we exit the truck for to clear snow from light or whatever reason. I find this just giving extra wear and tear on the starter. Thanks

High idle also produces some boost to provide positive pressure in the combustion chamber. This prevents excess fuel buildup in the crankcase (rings not sealing), not sucking oil down the intake valve stems, and also not blowing fuel/oil out the exhaust (slobber).

What he said.

The only time I use low idle is before I shut down.....

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part....

yeah if its shutting down while your out to clean off a light its pretty quick, you can set the shut down time and on non CARB certified trucks shut that function off altogether, on carb trucks you have to set a time I believe.
