  1. I keep seeing a black Super with a red frame and a decent size bunk on it pulling containers around Philly. The name on it is Universal. Is it anyone from here?
  2. I like the pin striping on the interior door panel. You can tell she was well taken care of at one point.
  3. You mean the expanding foam wasn't doing a good job of keeping everything together?!
  4. Mike, you gave me your number a bit ago but I got back surgery right after I said I'd help you push that thing around. I'm still meaning to stop by sometime and shoot the shit with you.
  5. They still have the Superliner, it's just painted up differently. I believe I posted it somewhere either in this thread or the Superliner thread.
  6. Why not embarass myself with some childhood pics hanging out with old Anderson stuff. I think i was maybe 9 or 10. I wish their trucks were still pinstriped like that Superliner though.
  7. If you want to smash your knee into it every day, change it over. I'm 6'3" though, don't know if you'll have the same legroom problem though.
  8. Noted. That doesn't seem to be an issue around Philadelphia. The top 5 companies in the area are all still running older gear in their fleets. Hell, I'm sitting in an 88 right now.
  9. Old R fuel tanker at Clean Earth on 61st street. It sits in a garage and they use it to fuel their machines. Sorry for my dirty window lol
  10. There's no way I can go in debt free. I was planning on looking into my loan options to get some start up for the truck and then my overhead expenses until the pay starts rolling in. I'm hoping I can stay busy by leasing myself to my buddies in the industry and my connections at my current job. I'm gonna have to sit down with those friends and have them show me some real world numbers that are relevant to business in this area. It's a lot to think about.
  11. Some good info so far guys, thanks. I'm only 26. No wife or kid to worry about and I'm actually about to move back in with my parents to save money and pay my pickup truck off. The plan was for me to buy the truck and drive it myself. So I'll only have to worry about paying myself. I'll stay in Teamsters 107 so my health coverage will be similar to what I have now I assume, I'd just have to pay into it myself.
  12. I'm torn. I've had 3 owner operator buddies tell me it's the way to go. My dad was a company driver for 30 years and it was always on his mind but he said he was afraid to take the financial risk while raising my brother and me. I did some side work for one of those buddies and every time he paid me, he had a stack of hundreds in his pocket. He said with steady work, he's pulling in 3500 a week, per truck, before expenses.
  13. Philadelphia. I'm in Teamsters 107 so I'll be getting on hire lists for union companies. I have a lot of "ins" with a few companies. Milling, paving and hauling.
  14. That's what worries me. I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to the bookkeeping side. Put me behind the wheel of a truck and I'll drive it around the clock. Put me in front of paperwork and I'll scratch my head for a day. I have two friends who are owner operators who have offered their help already, but I'll take all the advice I can get. I figured there's a wealth of knowledge and experience here.
  15. I'm going into my 5th year as a company driver and have made some decent connections. I'm tossing around the idea of buying my own truck and working for myself. Pretty much looking for an all mechanical R model as I've spent all my time behind the wheel of one of those and I'm semi familiar with them. Anyone care to offer up some starter advice for me? I understand the work side of it, but not so much the business side. School me.
  16. He has a little kenworth and an F450 box truck done the same way. I gotta say I'm a fan of a more classic look on an R model. Edit: just noticed the dual breathers. Wonder what it has for power? Could be why it has a hood scoop?
  17. I know it's not a construction truck, but I passed this place today in Conshohocken on my way to Ivy Rock and was reminded that this truck exists.
  18. Growing up, I remember that truck sitting in Anderson's main yard on Allegheny with a dump body on the back. It had that tank put on it maybe 5 years ago.
  19. Old R model tandem water truck. They use it to keep the SJA concrete yard wet. Used to be Anderson T-909. Rock Canyon RD I've been driving for my buddy when he has work.
  20. Truck I learned to drive in: Truck I first professionally drove: I still drive it and try to keep it clean as best I can. Except now it has ugly gray steelies on the front. I sure do miss the spokes.
  21. I just did some googling and the name I was thinking of was Matarese. At least I got the "M" lol. He had a nice fleet too.
  22. Does Mauro still run some RD's? I recall seeing a similar color scheme on a few trucks dumping at the H&K dump in Bellmawr.
  23. That's my old man driving it too. Jim had it built for him. At the time it was the only automatic in the fleet.
  24. We have a few trucks with the straight type plows, but since we're all on a PennDot contract, they get sent out to have them set at the angle they want.
