I talked to the guy with the Autocar. He seemed like a decent guy. He had run this truck in the past. I tried to sell the truck for him. He knew what he would get for scrap, but said he would sell it to me for $3000. I made up a sign and took it to Friends of Autocar. A buddy said he would offer $1500 for it. I don't know if he did. I did everything I could. It was too far away and too expensive for me to buy. Such a shame. Mike

FOR SALE 1971 RS 700L @ Auction in Ohio 11/16/2013
yarnall replied to fxfymn's topic in Trucks for Sale
These trucks are from Dick Best's collection. He died last year. Great guy. He had a lot of trucks. My parents were out to his place about 10 years ago. He bought a Magnum MH new which George Tackaberry now owns. He had three Mack Jr's. I wonder how his family decided to sell these trucks and if they are keeping the rest. Did anyone notice that the serial number plate on the B61 is on the driver's door? Mike -
The B95 is still pretty complete. It is in rough shape though. The bracket and clapper are still on the truck, but the bell itself is gone. I hope this truck does not get scrapped. I have not been able to contact the scrapper about the C125. If someone lives in the area would you please stop by and see if they cut the truck up and if not would they call me. I left several messages. Thanks, Mike

Yes, That Volvo-ism thing was a disappointment. Volvo aquired Autocar when it purchased White. When Volvo wanted to buy Mack from Renault the Feds made them sell White. A company bought the White Expeditor design and the Autocar name and now makes Autocar Expeditors in Illinous. Mike

That's the one 85LS1355. 1000 GPM at 1865 RPM. I don't know what he wants for it, but I told him I thought it was worth $4000. Mike

Lots of cool other trucks. I will put them in my gallery. The truck went to Scrap Metal Management. West Newbury Mass. 978 702 7055. I left a message today to see if it was cut up yet. Mike

Don't know when I would get up there next. He took a deck gun off the truck that I would like, but it would not fit in the car. Mike

Here is what I got. I was literally unscrewing things as they pulled the truck on the trailer and chained it down. I made them take the ladders and pike poles off before it left. I might buy them, but have to go back to MASS to get them, a 7 hour drive. I tried to get the Mack branded spot lights off of it, but it was leaving. I also wanted the mirrors and bracket, but not enough time. I should have made an offer for the entire truck, but it did not occur to me until the next day. I might still call the scrap yard and see if it has been cut up. The truck was complete. I really made me sad. He said this is the next truck to got to scrap. . He would not put a price on it. I am going to push him on it to make sure it does not get cut up. The truck is not in nearly as good of shape as the C125, but is ok. It is a B95FD Diesel. Next on the scrap list is this off brand. He is asking 12,500. It is a beautiful, complete truck, but who wants it. Not me. He said he will pull the engine, trans and tires and scrap the rest. He is a very nice guy, but he is a business man. He does have a 95LS. I would not let me load the picture. Mike

I was up at Aran Trading in Mass on Friday and David said he was scrapping some fire trucks. As a matter of fact one was leaving right now. C125F 1054. Really complete truck with no rust, just faded paint. Even had hoses and ladders. I bought some parts off of it before they drove off with it. I don't know why I didn't ask what it would take to buy it. I don't need it and it is far away. Maybe someone can get some good parts off of it if I hasn't been cut up yet. I couln't sleep that night. Mike

I bought this at an auction at the steel plant down the street. I remember it going by the house daily when I was a kid. -

Great find. How do you think it would do on a drive to Pennsylvania? Mike -
The big green Autocar in the shed is an old Gerossa truck. Mike

I don't know which Mike you are talking about, but you got my attention. That one B is really an H. I wonder if it is also $1700. Gettysburg is about 2 hours away. I wouldn't have time to go look at them for 3 weeks. Is anyone else going? Mike -
How about a number for this guy? Mike

Thanks for posting the pictures. A chain drive Sterling is on my wish list. Mike
