  1. I couldn't believe this one.... I had one of my 2000 CH"s with a 427 ETECH. it was running fairly smooth, would pull ok for an ETECH. As the engine warmed up more and more I would get loads of white smoke out of the crank breather at the front timing gear cover. I had done head gaskets to the truck 5000 miles before that (Only because a rear head rearmost frost plug rotted through!!!) and thought something failed.(nothing worse then doing your own warranty work) Started thinking maybe turbo charging the crank through the oil drain tube or other things.....tested cooling system turned out ok..... Turned out to be an injector failure dumping to much fuel into one of the cylinders. Pulled all six delivery lines and injectors, replaced and roadtested.... problem solved!
  2. While at Cambridge Mack in Canada dropping off one of our ASET powered dog's for MORE warranty engine work, there was a customer with a new Vision with a huge wheelbase and a 70" mid rise sleeper. The Vision had a long enough wheelbase to have ramps behind the sleeper mounted to drive his Smart car up onto a platform mounted on the framerails. (sideways) I sadly didn't get a picture of this truck back in 2006 or so but asked my salesman if they were equiping all Visions with ASET's with escape pods on the back of the bunk to get help. That would have helped us on a few occasions!
  3. If i'm not mistaken, that was the first Mack Titan sold in Canada by RedHead equipment in Western Canada. It was sold to a guy that hauled out to the oil rigs. The only thing I noticed that is different from when it was delivered is that they have removed the forward drive axle. That Titan was built as Tri-Drive tractor. Looks even longer now. Yep found the picture in Heavyhal"s Titan album under the title "Alberta Titan with sleeper"
  4. Jifflox tag? or empty banjo housing (no diff but mountable later)?
  5. I was lucky enough to have a good look at this Titan sleeper at the plant open house 2012. The stainless panels are attached to the bottom of the sleeper and are huge. The sleeper is ridgid mounted to the cab and is on the same air ride suspension. It seemed like a decent effort was made to make due with what they had. Hopefully there will be more fit and finish improvments down the road. It was evident that they are using the same sleeper for the Granite as the are the Titan thus the need for the huge panels. Its a shame. there is a huge open gap on the back side of the bunk. The gap between the frame rails and the bottom of the sleeper is over a foot. It would have been nice to see that wasted space turned into a storage compartment. With all the emission toys being mounted on the frame rails and backs of cabs, storage space on heavy hauling trucks is become hard to find. I find it funny that years ago we spoke to a gentleman from Mack Canada marketing years ago about mounting sleepers on the Titans from factory. Only to be told there isnt enough of a market for them. Guess Western Star, Kenworth and the others have been doing it wrong all these years. Hope they start offering some bigger sleepers soon. You know, strech the under cab framing and drill some more holes in the frame further back....."real" engineering issues. Good to see Mack listening to their bread and butter.
  6. Besides CXN's with an ASET motor being horrible on fuel at that mileage reliability wise it should be ok. With the heavy axles it is priced about right. Good luck.
  7. Not recomended to reuse the lines but I have before. Its a more then $400 for a new set. For an ASET series engine (2002-2007) Torque is 35lb ft at the head side and 25 lb ft at the EUP side of the lines. Keep an eye on them. If they become leakers it won't take long.
  8. If I'm not mistaken, 97, 98 are the E-("junk") tech (with 6 EUP's) or good old E-7 (Inline pump) cross over years. whoops, never mind.... mechanical means old E-7 My bad.
  9. I agree, something sounds off. check your specs.....with 4.10 and 22.5 with a 15speed O.D. we are running 1800rpm at 62mph. Your 5 spd should have a nice overdrive. Sounds to me you may have 4.50 rears with 24.5 tires or 22.5 tires with 4.17 Just guessing there.

  12. The Old Man worked at Toronto Mack for 30 years. They had a seperate shop at the branch that was like a Mod center. He handled alot of the major modification jobs that were Canadian and needed to be completed outside of the assembly Oakville assembly plant.

Old school till the end.....The old man still can believe they build the frames somewhere else. "didn't do that in Oakville"

Looks like a Canadian spec to me. I see they fianally cut the bumper to get at the tow loops. Something we pointed out to engineers when the customer center was the test center.

  16. An alternative issue I have seen with excessive oil in the air brake system has to do with where your air compressor is sucking its intake air from. If your air compressor is taking its intake air between your air filter and the turbo intake( not turbo charged but under vacum when engine loaded), under a hard pull it can pull oil past the compressor piston rings. Most engine air compressors now pull air from the turbo pressurized side of the air intake system. Older motors pull air before the air is charged ( between the air filter and the turbo compressor side intake) When the engine is pulling hard, it will cause a vacum in all intake piping before the turbo. the shorter the tube that goes to the intake of the air compressor, the more oil it can pull. May not be the answer for your problem, but i have seen this happen. Switching the piping to the turbo charged side of the intake piping solved our problems.
  17. Just make sure the MP8 engine in the truck you are looking at has had the Injector tube and injector update. Huge difference in fuel milage between the ASET engines from 02-06. We changed to MP series motors and havnt looked back.
  18. Nice MH... Have I not seen a picture of this truck or a twin of it on Hankstruckpictures.com? Good luck with the restore and good for you on keeping her looking stock. http://www.google.co...-AN8CyrmjaVztBw Looks the same.... link of picture above... But, I noticed that in the picture it only has one block heater hole in the cab step area. Usually any Mack with an E9 have the double plug recepticals. Especially if the truck is sold in Canada. So this one could be the sister truck with the 3406B Cat.
  19. We had or decal man make that. It's the Mack Canada emblem with the words "Built with pride in '85" over the top half and Oakville, Ontario under the lower half. Good old Canadian built Mack.
  20. I wish I never sold my '89 MH with an E9500 and a "crash box" 12speed. even with camel back rears that truck rode and pulled like nothing I have driven since. Its working in some forest in Guatemala somewhere. Some south American is laughing his ass off at me right now, pullin loads and making money. At least I found a couple of MH"s with E9's up here to restore. The Guy says he will sell them to me within the year. Sweeeeet!
