  1. I know less and less everyday.

  2. The E-7 mechanical is great!!!, the last of the million mile engines. The electric governor housing on the Robert Bosch pumps were great too. yes there is a small computer,,, the F.I.C. module.. The most common repairs i've made on those, is the Duetch connecter for the governor housing. the contacts get loose, especially if the connecter is not secured. I have also gained respect over the years for the E-Tech. It's fairly simple, and can run a million +... lifters were an issue, engine brake was nothin to write home about,..... Top oil feed update, high pressure oil pump, new re-set screws, and a lash change on the engine brake helped, .....Mack went with vendor parts on this engine, and quality was compromised. but, it is still a good engine, Once again this engine still does a good job. around 2003-2006, they started to screw up, with the A.S.E.T. C.E.G.R. However, The "Powerleash" engine brake, made by Mack... did a good job... I have done compression skids with power leash during road tests..... there's a ton more to say, but I have never written a book before....🙂... Jojo Ok Vmac3+"F"... Fill in the blanks.... 😅
  3. Thank you "F" for adding youre knowledge.. when i'm building an engine, the deck looks like a "math problem" with all of my paint pen measurements, I also sketch the deck on cardboard and re-write my measurements on the cardboard "art work" ....Anyway. I have been mocked at dealerships for my redundancy....... but when my engines fire-up...... there's no problems... I take neary 10-15 hours longer than most, but ..... I dont know it all,,,, but i'm proud of what I know.. I'm glad you're here.. Jojo
  4. So true Bullheaded,, I'm a one man show with my mobile mechanic business. I'm proud of what i do and i take the good with the bad. I pay my taxes and dues, while I see people get everything they need for free.. anyway, ... Jojo
  5. Hello 880 joe, The E-7 I built, is doing good... When I did the job, we replaced, the: Heads, Water pump, Air compressor, Radiator, the oil cooler and turbo was a few months old and in great shape, so my customer asked me to re-use them. I agreed.. New belts, and fan clutch (viscous). The cam and lifters looked good, so we skipped that. I took the oil pump apart and measured the clearence, spring tension, and there was no scarring. I put it back in, Oil pressure was, and still is, within spec when we ran the engine, (Run-in).. It still makes good oil pressure when hot. it's only been 4 months, but it's still doing it's job.. I know I repeated some stuff here.... The final cost: $10,500.00 Parts and labor.. Jojo
  6. Merry RamaHanukKwanzaMas!! everyone.. Jojo
  7. Hello, I need a brakedust shield for in board, Budd wheel set-up. If anyone has one or the part number, That would be great!
  8. youre pistons should be scraped on the thrust side. The P.A.I. kit I used had pistons, and rings in boxes, and new liners. I re-used the connecting rods. Of course, many will dissagree with re-using connecting rods without having them checked, the engine ran good before i tore it down, and did not vibrate or shake,, it had a cracked head, and my cust wanted me to re-build it. after inspecting the crank journals, we decided to go for it. I guess, you and youre mechanic need to discuss it......
  9. Dammt!!!! now I want Cake and Ice cream... Merry Christmas.... Hope I'm allowed to say that.... 🤫 Go Bulldog, Jojo
  10. I also forgot to ask if the sensor is "set" right... ( all the way in, then one full turn out)?
  11. It's all good.. I feel sure the tone ring is pressed on in Mack tranny's. His series would be a 300, not much different from 200's... there are some slight differences, the 4th 5th sliding clutch is fine splined like an eaton. otherwise its similar to 200's. Multi speed reverse adds a different set-up in the back box with caged reverse idlers...... anyway, a loose yoke could cause the code... its great to chat with you, Jojo
  12. Terry, Im new here... I came her to talk about the truck that I am proud of! That and freindly chat is all I want!... Thank you for what you said. Merry Christmas! Jojo
  13. Thats a new one for me.... makes total sense!
  14. Heck, I also forgot to ask if its a Mack tranny... the tone ring may be pressed onto the yoke, Eatons have a separate tone ring, in this year model. just like the FRO 15,16,210C tranny's ive put synchros in... Correct me if i'm wrong, Vmac3.. Jojo
  15. Were on the same page Vmac3... Im glad you took the time to type all of what you know... You are absolutely right!!!
  16. Just curious.... is the tranny yoke loose..?
  17. I always measure my shelf depth, I keep an old liner that i trimmed. i measure each time i use it, write down my measurements. shelf depth usually falls around 4".03... on an uncut counter bore.... i take that measurement along with the new liner measurement. around 4".10... anyway,... when I set a liner i shoot for .028" protrusion. I always get my liners within .002"... mack spec is .023-.029... Im telling you this because I hope who is doing the build understands this... Vmac3... please chime in... I have seen too many engine builds go bad because the "tech" said he could do it..
  18. yes..... As far as inspecting it with idea of re-using the liners, in rare cases in my experience you can do that. However, why take the chance? Hopefully when he pulls the liners, the counter bore shelf will be good. if not, just get them cut.. I have always built these engines with Mack parts, but 4 months ago i built a 1990 E-7 with P.A.I. engine kit and heads.. so far the truck is running goo, I talk to my customer often to keep up on it.. I'm sure a few others will chime in on this, there are a lot of smart people here.. "F" from canada, and vmac3.... They may offer some advice too.. Jojo Good luck, let me know how it goes.. a
  19. I just want a cold beer. Merry Christmas Dog, Jojo 😀

    1. other dog

      other dog

Merry Christmas to you and yours! I've been wanting a beer for over a week now, they call out to me every time I open the refrigerator.  But when I went to the Dr's. office for that gout over a week ago the first thing the nurse said was " you know, red meat, seafood-especially shellfish- and beer are the worst things for gout". I thought "great, 3 of my favorite things ".

  22. Hello, I'm trying to find one of these dust shields. I sure could use a Part number... Thank you, Jojo.
  23. Yes sir I am,,, yes and the Davco filters have a coil inside that coolant can flow through if the fuel heater option is used.. Jojo
  24. Yes I remember E.U.P. issues, what do you think about the A.P.U. causing this issue, provided the truck has one.... I have done the simple fix of replaceing the Davco 382 filter assembly, to stop contamination, however in N.C. i dont see too many with coolant connected to them. When I lived in Maine, I saw plenty.. I have also only replaced 1 cup in an E-Tech, Glad youre here, Jojo
