We’ll keep trying, I got a couple of hours of work on the LJ today, hooking up the compression release, had to modify the pivot and mount because of the Jake brake installation, all good now,, move on to the next ,, one thing at a time. -

I looked at them, they are in great shape, but I think they are off a fire truck with 20 inch wheels, and wouldn’t work. That’s a fair price, I would buy them in a minute if they would fit my LJ , Thanks so much for sharing the post. -

Macks First Glider kit
1961H67 replied to mrsmackpaul's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Very interesting! I’m trying to track down some history on a 1955 LTH I bought a couple weeks ago. As to where it was delivered new . And what the original engine was. I am going to do a post on it ,when I get more info, I have the history of it from 1964 till now, but am working on the late 50s ( according to the original owner’s great nephew) it was sent to Alaska, and was refitted with a 318 to use in the colder conditions ,, I’m still working on finding more information. Thanks for the picture of the glider kit!- 1 reply

I’m looking for the clips, fasteners, not sure what they are called that hold the 3 chrome trim pieces on the hood, I’m going through a lot of my L stuff, trying to pick the best and some of those clips are missing, I haven’t looked at any automobile clips yet, just thought someone might have ran into the same issue, thanks Dean -

Yep brings back many memories, I had several good teachers on the old Cummins, running around those o rings with your pocket screwdriver was a must. -

1961H67 replied to mattb73lt's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Back in the day Cummins made a “Plug “ that we would drop in the liners to check for a rolled o ring when we were rebuilding, I was in my 20s and I would question how that rubber o ring would distort a steel liner . The older guys would tell me if that plug hit a tight spot,, pull that liner back out and you will find a rolled o ring . -

I had a driver call me years ago, 230 Cummins, said it ran hot,, and was knocking,, shut it off and it wouldn’t start back ( locked up) I drove about 30 minutes to him ,, it started up when it cooled , no knock, sounded ok , drove it back to shop and pulled the pan and you could see liner scoring on one cylinder, probably would have did what yours did if it had ran much more, that liner is not that thick in the o ring groves, It’s hard to tell if it was overheated before you got, I think you got some good advice from the other guys , and good call on your part to go through the injectors . You won’t have to worry about it when you head out on a long road trip. -

My 51 LJ has the same set up, not sure if they have that but may know where you can find one, Call Ralph Mahoney & Sons, you can find there numbers on the internet. I put a Jake brake on my 220 Cummins and spoke with Tom Mahoney, Super Nice people. He fixed me up with all the gaskets I needed. -

Im glad ( under the circumstances) that you got it in the shop before the weather gets messy. I have a 220 parts manual if you need it , I’ll send it up , the part numbers are old but Cummins can still change them over. -
