  1. That makes perfect sense! And it shows in the Detail!
  2. Beautiful! I dropped by the paint store today and bought a gallon of epoxy primer for the LJ ,I can’t wait to see the cab all one color ( even if it is gray primer) . Watching you paint everything separately and putting it all together is like watching someone building a High Precision Detail Model!
  3. My goodness that looks great! I worked on my cab about 3 hours yesterday, I’m hoping to put the first coat of primer on this week. Thanks for the Pictures of your paint ,, My daily Motivation!
  4. Yes ,, I restored My H Model & C Model,, and when you see that light at the end of the Tunnel it Sure makes a difference! Especially with the Perfection you have put in to yours!
  5. OH My that looks Great! And also thank you for the Motivation,,, I’ve worked on this LJ more watching you in the past year,, then the past 30 years! ( I Drove this LJ when I got right out of High School , I joke with my Wife when she calls me at the shop, and ask what’s going on,, I say I’m working on the same truck I was when you first met me! 43 years ago! .)
  6. Ok thanks,, I’ll take these off this parts truck and check them out, The chrome looks pretty good, I’ll check the bases and let you know.
  7. What kind of marker lights did you use ? Mine were trash, One of my parts LJs has a decent looking set of 517s on it but the gaskets are rotten and I’m sure I would have to replace the bulb sockets . Not that far along yet, just trying to make a list, I’m trying to make it end up looking like it was when Coke bought it new. My head liner and interior is probably going to be the next big hurdle, The cab is getting close to start putting some paint on . ( I’m trying to catch up on my 2 weeks detour on playing with Jake Brakes , lol )
  8. I checked the local Coca Cola Distributor,, they have a few old pictures of trucks with the same colors ( as best I can tell because they are black & white) but none of My Truck ,, Mack only knows it was Red ,, I have sanded off enough to get all the break lines and took pictures,, I’m just going with that , still curious about the black door glass frame,, I’m going back with it anyway. As for the “Ram Air Induction “ on the parts LJ ,, it’s a piece of stainless covering the wire mesh for the air intake,, It’s actually made very well, somebody’s idea for more air I guess.
  9. Yea we had a HO-JO nearby when I was growing up , I wish it was still around! I also have a parts LJ that was Green, it has had the door frames painted White?? Never noticed this on old trucks until I started thinking about trying to repaint this to the original owners color .
  10. I’m restoring a 51 LJ , I drove this truck in the late 70s , the owner said it was bought new in Asheville NC buy the local Coke distributor, The paint was faded terrible, I sprayed it light blue just to make it one color. I want to paint it back original Coke ( According to the Mack Museum it was shipped to Asheville , September 51 All Red ) , Then it was Painted Coke Yellow , Cab , bottom of doors and fenders . The Roof was white & down around the windows . The top of hood and radiator shroud was Black. I have a question about the tops of the door frame painted black, you can see the original paint when I removed the mirrors. I have found 1 other truck with black door frames a old Howard Johnson truck. Possibly the color scheme back then was left up to the local Bottling Co ? Just Wondering about the door frames, Thanks if any ideas.
  11. Matt , These were on Davids B73 ,, Dated 1963 ,, they look like yours , I can’t find a ser number or date on mine,, I have no idea when the first Model 20 was made.
  12. Yes ! Tom also offered me the fixture to grind my rockers! ( I didn’t need it because I used the rocker housing’s from my donor engine) He is a great Guy,, I had only talked to him once before. His Dad is still able to give advice! ( He’s 92 ) He told me the Model 20s were the same color as the engine when they came out new, like you have yours ,, I just like the Jake Green look. I see the difference in the housings . David Strickland has a set with “1963” on them,, I’m going to visit him tomorrow, I’ll look at the casting on them. I was Blessed too grow up around Old trucks , mostly Mack’s , and I’ve got to know Many Good people!
  13. I was worried about finding Gaskets for the Jake Brake,, I got in touch with Tom Mahoney at Mahoney & Sons , he is very knowledgeable on the old Cummins, he got me a complete set of gaskets. I wanted the exact Jacobs's Green, ( Just to show them off ) Tom got in touch with Dave Pearman of Jacobs ,, He gave us the Original color code ( Pantone 348 Green, which my local DuPont store mixed) ,, Many thanks to Both these guys for their interest in my project !
  14. Ok thanks,, I’ll check Rhode Island Wiring, And I saw a place in Alabama also,, yeah if it’s too expensive I’ll make one ,, there is not much too a LJ ,, I already put a 1 wire alternator and a 12v starter, that cut it in half already, thanks
  15. Matt did you get a new wiring harness for your truck? I wasn’t sure if anyone has one for a LJ , thanks
  16. Thank You! I can’t wait to get it all done and hear the Jake with the Backdrop Manifold !
  17. The Jake project is done! Started engine , powered them up , all working. Back to Body work on the Cab
  18. Matt , That Truck is Absolutely Beautiful! Thanks again for your help on my Cab ,, it’s coming along pretty good, I got sidetracked when I found a set of Model 20 Jakes for the 220 , I have been messing around with that Detour for a couple of weeks.
  19. Cab is coming along pretty good,,, I got sidetracked when I found a Set of Model 20 Jakes for it , that should make the Backdrop sound off
  20. Yes , I have it on a pallet now, and clamped down , I took the rear cab panel and other parts to my local sheet metal shop, should start putting some back on next week, I will send more pictures,, Thank you! The cab panel saved me Tons of work!
  21. I was, it’s done, The B was a already restored, we just bought it. I’m still working on the LJ I have had for 40 years , I need to stay on it , too many distractions! Lol
