Mack cab beige interior paint.
1961H67 replied to JBushneck's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Yes I believe I have had all 3 beige colors at some point, My LTH is light, it’s original, My LJ was a little darker, I took the glove box off and waxed the back of it, took it to the local DuPont store and shot it with the camera and mixed it ,, it came out pretty good, I probably still have the darker code if you need it, I’ll send a picture of both, the LJ & LTH ,, I had another old Mack that was lighter than both of these. -

For sure,, I love old pictures of trucks & trains working back in the day , I found this one a while back, it’s the Carolina Special coming up Saluda Grade ( steepest mainline railway in the USA, 5% ) The had a siding at the bottom, and a pusher would come out from behind and help. I’ve ridden up the backside of the grade with Dad in our C Model Mack when I was a kid, The road crossed the tracks at the top of the grade,, I donated this picture to the Saluda Grade Depot Museum. -

I’m sure it’s homemade, They sold the property a couple years ago and there was all kinds beams and dollies laying around. I remember watching them move a brick house with it about 500 feet when I40 came through here . I used the transmission because it looked brand new inside, and mine had a lot of miles. They probably never used it in high gear . -

In ( Way too many years) that I have been working on this LJ restoration I have been fortunate that I have been donated 2 LJ Parts trucks , one with a 200 Cummins single axle, very rusty, and one Gas tandem, The Gas LJ was purchased new by a company near me when I was growing up,, they moved houses mostly, I remember as a boy seeing it being used. One of the original owners grandsons, gave it to me a few years ago, it was In really bad shape, but I have used a few pieces off of it. And actually I used the transmission in my L J , they put air power steering on it. It’s been a great help. I found a picture of it in use back in the day. Pretty cool! -

Thanks License to Kill,, We get to chasing rabbits at times, and Trucks like the one I just posted is the reason I’m still working on the Coca Cola Painted LJ that I’m restoring . If I had stayed the course, it would have been done years ago. I probably should’ve started the post as “ Restoring a LJ “ . Matt got involved with a backdrop manifold and we became friends, and it’s gone from there. It’s been a great experience making a lot of friends, I’m planning on getting some more information on the Yellow LTH soon and sharing some of its history.. Thanks for the interest. -

Great looking flooring! I floored my 53 foot Landoll year before last with Apitong , I was reading up on it and from what I gathered it’s the 2nd strongest wood in the world. I predrlled through the wood and cross member with a slightly smaller bit, then ran those torx head self tapping screws in with a 1/2 air wrench,,, Back braking! Yours will be perfect,, I know your work! -

That definitely is a dying trade! One reason they couldn’t teach that in High School is they couldn’t find anyone to teach the class! And the kids today wouldn’t know what it was if they cast it . Thanks for the pictures, The Towing Museum in Chattanooga has a lot of the gear wooden blocks and molds for the older winch gear,, I always found that interesting but was never able to see it done. -

That’s very interesting, I don’t think I have ever heard of a foundry near me. I doubt they teach that in high schools anymore. Thanks for the info -

I had one just like it on a tandem GMC Brigadier, came from a forklift dealer, landing gear system worked great. The one I put on my H Model is a Schwarz made by the farm equipment company, it’s all one motion up and back at the same time, good for farm equipment or trucks, but too steep for cars, The one here on the B73 looks like it will be great for cars, not nearly as steep as mine. It’s going to be sweet with the wood floor.
