  1. I have a set of 1/2 fenders I may modify and hang flaps on the rear, I would love to drive it local shows, ( like yesterday) . I can always remove them if I need to, Thank you again for the help yesterday
  2. Buy the way,, I have a 1988 Superliner 2 , 700 , it originally had 2 steering boxes and the right side leaked so the original owner removed it, it’s did fine for us for the last 10 years, problem now is the front axle is worn out, ( not the king pins, the actual axle ends, ) would love to find a replacement axle with hub pilot hubs,, I would appreciate any advice,, First thought of mine was a CL 700 because they are newer , but I haven’t seen one to measure.
  3. Thanks Bob , I’ll try to find a picture of the old ones .
  4. Thank you Brocky , That’s a Honor to see Gary with the LJ ! I’ll agree on the pictures ; luckily I have a printer that I printed a lot of these off and put them in a album, But there are 100s that will be deleted that will be on my phone when I’m gone. I see a lot of single axles with the fenders wrapped around the rear tires, I’m not sure what that would look like, I’ll keep messing with it.
  5. Had a great time at the Tigerville SC show yesterday, good turnout. Probably my next project with the LJ will be some rear fenders of some sort, I’m not sure what will look good. I had some steel fenders on it years ago, but they were getting in bad shape. I’m definitely open to ideas.
  6. Those pictures are priceless! I don’t have a picture of my Dad around the LJ ( Luckily I have a bunch of him with other old trucks, mostly Hennis Mack’s ) But he did drive the LJ , When I was 19 -21 still living at home if we had a truck broke down especially on the weekends he would ride with me in the LJ to the local trucking terminal and I would get a spare tandem truck and drive it to wherever the down truck was, saving time on towing it , Dad would always follow me in the LJ , then we would tow the broken truck back in , no pictures, just great memories. So it’s been through 4 generations.
  7. Matt, Thank you! Watching the B73 progress really kept me focused. And yes the flood was a major blow but we will continue to work through it. It’s been fun looking at pictures of my Grandson, he really got involved in it, you should have seen him last week going through the album with everyone. My Son was involved with it when he was that age but at that time in our life I didn’t have the time to keep going with it, that is how it got put in a shed for 25 years.. I found some old photos with My Son and Me when he was 2 days old, In 1990 , the LJ had been parked for 10 years then. The other is my Son at 6 years old, and I stopped working on it about that time,, Then My Grandson in early 2020 when he was 4 after dragging it out of the shed. Then last week,, Lots of Memories!
  8. I work for Carolina Tractor in the early 80s ( Cat Dealer) and worked on a bunch of trucks with 3208s mostly Fords, they put a lot in those Budd cab trucks, Fords & Mack’s , the first ones I remember where painted blue with a inline injection pump and were called 1160s . A couple local fire trucks had the cab over Fords ( Budd cab ) with turbos , they were really spunky, ok for a fire truck, at least it wasn’t like my local fire department, they had a Maxforcre Navistar and it would go into limp mode on the way to a fire,, Not Good!! Like every one says, if you have a piston problem it had to be bored
  9. Thanks for all the comments & support,, yes upward and onwards, a day at time. And yes the worst part of this flood was the tremendous force of what 20-30 inches of rain did in the mountains, it really didn’t do as much water damage like most slow river flooding,, it literally just took everything completely away. The LJ was very lucky it didn’t get swept out with the current. This Peterbilt was about 50 miles away,,, Not as lucky as the LJ .
  10. Thank you, they are the original NOS sealed beams, thankfully they are 12v , I purchased the NOS fender turn signals and they had 6V , it was like a quick flash when I turned them on. Yes it’s been a rough 6 months, but we are slowly moving forward, we are able to use the new bridge, had to fill over 100 tandem loads of dirt around the shop, just got a power pole up last week, bay doors replaced, next step is replacing all the metal on the exterior.
  11. First truck show pictures , My “ Helper “ explains the photo album and how the LJ got the scars on the front bumper and left fender. And setting at the weight scale on I40 , ( Best Inspection they have ever given me! )
  12. I had a set of chrome rings that were upstairs and survived. My Helper was all about putting them on .
  13. THANK YOU for the help upgrading my account! Hopefully I can return the favor someday! I’ll try to catch up on the progress since I last posted any pictures, these are the NOS headlights I purchased from Mike Tuttle & Bruce Essick , they help me out on the lights when my original ones got washed away.
  14. You may be able to find some in your area by searching ATCA & ATHS websites, they usually have a calendar of local shows.
  15. Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely contact Barry . The truck show at the N C Transportation Museum was a huge success, great weather and Lots of Mack’s , My Grandson had a blast with the picture album we started when we pulled it out of the shed in late 2019 ( most of the pictures are on this site) , and he told them about the left fender scars! He just turned 10 last week, so he has helped me work on it half his life. It’s about a 125 mile trip down to the museum , we hauled it on my Landoll ,he enjoyed the trip with me. One last note, we got “ Redlighted “ by the NC DMV at the weight scale on I40 in Statesville NC ,,, They came out and took pictures of the LJ ! I told them the last time I came across these same scales with the LJ was 45 years ago,, 1980 ! The Inspector wasn’t even born yet!
  16. I finally got my headliner installed, Pretty much done , a little wiring on things like dome light . I drove it 30 miles to a friends trim shop and back, all did great , small leak on the rear end pinion seal , but overall good ( especially for setting 35 years and being dead center of a “ 1000 Year Flood “ . I’ve got it loaded on my lowboy, I’m going to take it to the North Carolina Transportation Museum tomorrow for a truck show. ( still have not had time to set down and reduce the file so I can post some pictures, mine says Max total 26.441kb , and I reduced them and I still exceed the size) . Maybe because I don’t own a computer, just iPad & iPhone, I never had a problem until recently,,,,,,
  17. My Son and Me have been using Superliners to haul equipment for about 10 years we’re still running 3 of them. I’ve been looking at some late 90s - early 2000 CH ‘s . Just looking for air ride and a quieter cab , I’ve really never been around many CH’s , I have noticed some have door vent windows and some don’t, And the dash change around 2000 , any tips on the best ones to look for ?
  18. Headlights installed, Hopefully get the headliner installed week after next, only a few more lose ends, my goal is getting done and taking it to the truck show at the North Carolina Transportation Museum on May 10th . ( Crossed the new bridge to the shop this week, hopefully we can start replacing the walls in a few weeks, Power company came out and marked the spot for the new pole, It took 100 tandem dump truck loads to build back the land that washed away.)
  19. Got my NOS Headlights painted, hopefully install them this weekend.
  20. Ok I’ll give the pictures a try, Thankfully the wild fires haven’t been close to us, I hauled some equipment down to the NC/TN line Where I 40 is washed out Monday and the side of the mountain was burning, it rained Wednesday so hopefully that helps. I’m going to try to bring something to the Dark Corner Show, we are making some progress, warm weather will help!
  21. I finally got some NOS headlights, I took them apart to paint them, it was like looking in a Time Machine, cloth wiring, perfect! I have the door panels on and the window glass in and working, hopefully I can get it ready to make the show at the NC Transportation Museum on May 10th . ( I can’t post any pictures, it tells me the file exceeds 26.44 kb , I’ve tried to reduce the size but it still says it’s too big? Any suggestions? )
  22. I may be wrong but I think I remember seeing some trucks in the Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum a couple months ago with 24 “ inch wheels. Tube type. But can’t ever remember seeing a 26.5 tubeless . If anyone knows what is still available it would be the staff at Keystone .
  23. The bottom of the footing is about 4 feet below water level, with rebar tied up to the abutments, we channeled the water down as deep as we could and used pumps to keep the water from seeping in .
  24. I installed my left window glass in the LJ Friday, nice weather for February. Then early Saturday morning 7 volunteers from an organization called Hope Mill showed up and helped My Son and Me set the beams and flooring for our bridge to our shop! A LOT of work in one day! Great group of volunteers! I have some pictures but for some reasons it keeps showing files are too big???
