  1. I could be mistaken, but I believe all trucks went through a dealership (branch) before delivery when Mack still had their factory branch system. That is why some carriers also operated Mack franchises so they could take advantage of "factory" pricing. I want to say Florida Rock was one carrier that had a franchise, but I'm not 100% sure.
  2. I have been chasing a strange noise that occurs in my truck when you decelerate while it is in fifth gear. It sounds like diamond plate rattling, but its not, and it gets louder at high speeds. It is quite loud and only occurs in fifth gear while decelerating; as soon as I step on the gas it disappears until I let off of it again. When I was in SC this week I had the chance to ride in the sister truck to mine and it does the exact same thing. Now I'm wondering if its normal or something that is a common malfunction. So, does anyone else experience a loud roaring, rattling vibration type sound in a rig equipped with the ENF510 and a five speed (fifth over) transmission that occurs when you are in fifth gear and let off of the accelerator? That would include some E models, Type 75A, and Type 505A among others. And if so, have you figured out what the cause is?
  3. No, I am going to bring the truck this year so we'll stay in a hotel. But we'll look you up if you are staying in the coach. When are coming to DC again?
  4. Ray; I sent you an e-mail. Carl According to the museum the truck was delivered to the municipal department, not the airfield. However, we will be looking at pictures of the disaster to see if we can spot the truck. Thanks for the lead in Harvey's book.
  5. Are you sure there is no bleeder on the upper wheel cylinders? I cannot recall seeing any wheel cylinder that did not have a bleeder, especially since the two wheel cylinders are generally the same part number.
  6. Here are a couple of pictures of a 1925 AB pumper that a friend of mine purchased in SC. We went down to get it with my trailer and delivered it to a restoration shop for them to try to get it running. The rig has been in storage for the last 21 years, but was in remarkably good condition. All of the bits and pieces are there except for the bell. We took the headlights off so they would not get damaged in transit. There is no rust, not even the tool box was rusted out, and the engine turned over with the hand crank. The running boards loook as good as new. The paint is peeling and there is some surface rust, but I've seen worse on in-service rigs. It was delivered to Lakehurst, NJ. There is a NJ state inspection sticker on the dash for 1941! Apparently they had the chemical tanks removed and replaced with a small booster tank, but other than that it is all original.
  7. If you like Thai food try Nori Thai & Sushi on Blind Pass Rd. Best crispy duck with basil sauce I have ever had anywhere. Very good sushi as well. http://www.norithai.com/
  8. Todd, Have you tried running an ad on the SPAAMFAA web site?
  9. When I did the 52 I thought that I had screwed something up as it took several hours and quite a bit of fluid to finally get them bled. Patience is a virtue! Make sure the booster is bled first, than do the wheels, furthest away from the master first. If you replaced any lines make sure there aren't any "high" spots in them that will trap air. I used a clear line attached to the bleeders so I could watch for air bubbles as the fluid drained into a collection jar. If the truck has dual wheel cylinders make sure you are bleeding both and start with the rear/bottom cylinder first on each wheel. And of course make sure your helper does not release the pedal until you have re-tightened the bleed screw.
  10. I have already decided to skip the ATHS National because of the cost of fuel along with all of the other costs of attending. I figured it will be the better part of $1000.00 to pay the fuel bill, get a hotel room, admission, etc. We still go to as many in-state parades/shows as we can and I've already made my reservations for Macungie.
  11. Only two. Mine and Chris Oliphant's CF. He was at the end of the line and i didn't get pictures of his.
  12. Here are a couple of pictures of the 52 in the DC St. Patrick's Day parade that was held yesterday. What a thrill to be able to take the truck through the streets of the nation's capitol and get pictures in front of some of the most iconic places in our country. We were lined up on the Mall behind Air and Space with the Capitol Buiding in the background which made for some great photo ops.
  13. You didn't screw up with the turkey load. A live idiot telling all his buddies about how crazy that dude is is a far better deterent than a dead one whose family is suing you over a wrongful death. Less legal trouble and more fear factor in the scumbag community. That's a winner.
  14. Don't be shy; who is the insurance company? Or are you holding the threat of going public with their name over their head so they'll pay up?
  15. I once had to terminate an employee who had the nads to sit in a fire truck during a working fire talking on his cell phone instead of fighting the fire. He couldn't understand what he did wrong.
  16. Our motto: Good enough is good enough!
  17. I love it! Good for you. Glad to see folks using shotguns instead of a hand gun. Easier to hit the target and the intimidation factor is ten fold. Reminds me of a co-worker who came home to find a pile of his possessions in the front hallway. He called the cops, told the dispatcher he had a gun and he was going to shoot the intruder. He said you could hear sirens starting all over the city before he even hung up. They caught the guy hiding in the basement with an ass full of broad head arrows that he stuck in himself when he fell on them running from my friend.
  18. So sorry if anyone took offense, but I went back and re-read the ad just to see if I was way off base. Sorry gang but I don't see a restored show quality truck as advertised. It has a nice paint job and interior, but it is obvious the engine has not been done, nor has some of the chrome been re-worked. Lots of folks who are just getting into the hobby of collecting or restoring trucks use this site as a resource. One of the things that every collector needs to know is that a picture will always be better than the actual vehicle and that if you buy based strictly on a picture you will probably not get what you think you are getting. Not intended to be negative, but trying to be honest with what I thought about the rig. I hope he gets his asking price for his sake, but I don't see it. As to the comments about the price expectations; My view is they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, not what the owner thinks they are worth. If you want to know the value put it in a well advertised no reserve auction and you'll find out what its truly worth.
  19. Nice truck but I'd be suspicious that it was overhaul by DuPont, not a true tear down/re-build that that kind of money should buy. Thats why you have to go see them before you buy 'em.
  20. Worked next to a big concrete company for a lot of years. You could always tell who had f##ked up during the week by the pounding coming from inside the mixer drum on Saturday morning. And they also had several full drums in the scrap yard out back along with the drums from old trucks they used to replace the totally filled and hardened drums. I wish I had their home made B model wrecker.
  21. Is there a specific part you are trying to locate or are you just trying to locate the book for future reference? If you are trying to locate one specific part the Mack Museum build sheets supply the major parts numbers and I have had good fortune writing to the museum for a specific part number for parts that are not listed on the build sheets. I have also found that any Mack built parts have been clearly marked with a Mack PN.
