  1. And this from Mike on the heavy haulage Mack "Forgot to say - the heavy haul was Mack as well (although I think it had a Detroit Diesel engine, so not a gold dog on the front)" Paul
  2. Some more And the story in Mike Tee's words We had more than a couple of hundred just in our fleet! At that time though, I don't think there were many more in the country - as we carried a huge spares inventory, if there had been others, I'm sure they would have been around looking for spares. We got a few european Macks passing through, and helped out some of them. We did cover the whole country, firstly based near Dammam on the east coast with our original Aramco contract, then we got the job of carrying all the pipe for the trans Saudi pipeline that went from the east coast over to Yanbu on the west coast - plus just about every destination in between! The dump truck was one of many that we carried up to the new King Khalid Military city site in the north of the country - it was bare desert when I took one of the first convoys up there - we had a huge amount of equipment etc that had to be moved up before they could do any construction. Had to bring in a few Kenworths for the heavy stuff, though just before I left we took delivery of our own custom built heavy haul rig - if memory serves me, it had a capacity well north of 200 tons. One of my jobs was safety manager, so I saw a lot of the country investigating many accidents, most of which were not our fault, and I eventually persuaded the police to accept that! Thoroughly enjoyed my time over there - about 4 years - but got moved on to other projects. regards Mike I must apologize to everyone for my lapse in this Especially to Mike for entrusting me with his photos and story I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, thank you fgor sharing these Mike Paul

  7. I have never seen one, but that doesnt mean they didnt exist Paul
  8. I reckon Hayseed and Brocky are onto it Anything from outside the British Empire used to have huge import tariffs I'm pretty sure stuff from the U.S. had at one stage 100% tariff In Australia the higher the Australian content the cheaper the tariff, hence Mack, Volvo, Kw, Scania, White and the list goes on were of Australian content early on Paul
  9. Your truck looks nice and neat, cant get over how clean the GM is in the Superliner Good old collapsable goose neck float, doesnt look like it's folding any more though Paul
  10. Thats probably what I would do
  11. Have a CRACKER OF A DAY
  12. Probably stuck under a huge pile of chocky eggs and hot cross buns Paul
  13. Good job on the trailer, still struggling to understand you yanks calling nipples zerks Just imagine been out on Saturday night with some foxy sheila in the back seat of your ride, trying to cop a feel of her zerks lol Doesn't roll off the tounge quite the same lol Push cart or billy cart as we call them out here looks like lots of fun It's hard for a lot of people to understand that things with a personal history are worth so much more than store bought stuff, Im sure you know what I mean Paul
  14. If you just sit the same belt in each groove and check how much it protrudes from the groove I think would give a good indication if the pulley is badly worn I would of thought, totall open to correction Paul
  15. I typed out a reply must of not pushed submit Anyway I'll have another go Fantastic effort so far Your vee belts need to be a matched pair, lots of manufacturers say they are matched belts but this isnt exactly true Say for example yiu have B 85 belts and buy three belts that are meant to be matched, if you look closely at the belts there is another number made up of may 5 or 6 numbers in smaller writing, this number is the matched number and the closer these numbers are to matching the closer the belts are to be matched This isnt some made up B.S. this is fair dinkum and when they numbers are really close the belts (providing the pulleys are in good nick) will run smooth as silk So check the belts out, most spare parts people dont know this, a older spare parts gentlemen showed me this many years ago and it still proves correct today Paul
  16. Maybe it never had a air dryer, I have never seen a air dryer in my life so although they are common in the US Im guessing that they arent fitted to every truck Or theres also most likely is, I just dont know my ass from elbow Paul
  17. Check them if your concerned, make up pressure guage with a a tap etc and make sure the air pressure is at 60 - 70 psi Paul
  18. Well you will never know if you dont ask, dont worry Ngrace24, there is never any harm in asking a question Paul
  19. Thats a great idea, have never thought about using that A fella I know would have at a guess at least 20 years old KW C 60? Brute with a Cat C16 pulling tripple road trains off road a lot of the time and thru all the connections it will hold air for 8 hours As he says, you really need to keep on top of it I think thats a fair effort and he also runs at a minimum 130 psi Way off the subbject but this video cropped up of Goldies KW brute a bit stuck in Western QLD a couple of years ago Truck had Gold Finger painted on the bonnet (hood for you Yankies) and his truck has Hatch Transport painted on the crates https://www.facebook.com/639446023186634/posts/838523726612195/?d=null&vh=e Paul
  20. O ring kit on the air rams Input shaft seal Output shaft seal, the bolt on the yoke needs to be done up to 3 gazillion foot pounds and use the proper loctite, don't ask how I know this but it is a heck of job on the side of the road If it's wet at all, even mild damps around the counter shaft caps re seal them And dont use silicone, silastic, form a gasket or any crap like that as when the inside bits ooze inside and drop off the eventually get pumped into the high low sliding dogs and the whole shooting match has to come apart Apart from that, good luck Paul
  21. So I must be blind, what answer did you come up with ? I'm struggling to read the injector pump tag Paul
  22. Are these a disc or drum brake ?? I have no idea disc brakes on trucks On cars if the shims and spacers aren't installed in the correct sequence they will squeal and sound like steel on steel Thinking that big trucks maybe the same Even if it's drums the outside edge of the shoe can drag on the drum if they arent spaced or installed correctly Paul
  23. Only the later series cooled coolpowers had the water lines to the intercooler I think these were then 350 hp There must be different casting numbers on the block as I'm pretty sure the Maxidyne has more webbing around the bottom end The first Maxidynes sold in Australia were prone to cracking the block around the lower end So to answer your questions, I dunno lol Paul
  24. As I always say, these pooches give us more than we ever give them No good at all Paul
