When I was a career firefighter, we had a slice pack on our heavy rescue, I was never impressed with it at all. Later on the powers bought us a PETROGEN torch set. which uses gasoline and oxygen- and this thing kicked some serious ass. I nevr got to use it at an actual incident, just during training- I was amazed at the speed and efficiency it could cut through a piece of railroad track. I dont think it's a CF. I opened the pic up in my photo editor, and zoomed in on it, and although I didnt get close enough before loosing to clarity, I did figure out that it's something with a Cincinatti Cab, beings the pic was taken in Roanoke, it could very well be a Howe/Oren

I called Wauky-Dresser about a year ago and was advised that I could no longer obtain OEM parts for my engine- anything I needed would have to be bought aftermarket. Most places that have parts for oilfield applications usually tell me that "oh thats too small for us, smallest thing we deal with is the 1098 CID engine.....I did some reasearch today, some places are advertising parts for the 140GZ/F554G but we shall see when I call them on Monday.

Thats precisely how he wanted me to pay, but I did not fall for it. I appreciate anything you can do. I have spoken with a bunch of folks at a bunch of different places that all "hit" when I google any of the numbers, and they all say the same thing: "Sorry, not made anymore, not in stock. Pray that you find someone with a NOS set." Jobbers Warehouse (also known as ROBBERS Warehouse) has a head set on the shelf for 700 bucks.....The websites that "hit" when googled show the price of the head set and full O/H set for anwhere between $119 and $245 bucks. I dont even want to know what Robbers wants for the full O/H set if they have it...........

You sent me an email claiming to be some parts place in London, England that had the head set in stock, but after some suspicious answers to my questions (because you triggered my suspicious instinct to begin with.......) you claimed you could not send me a picture of the gasket set due to "technical problems" with your internet and then computer and then camera......So finally I said "no picture no deal" and you dissappeared off into the sunset. Do you have the damn gasket set or not???? LOL

Tried to add onto the thread I already started, but for some reason it would not let me "reply." Still looking for any parts for a Waukesha 140GZ (F554G) straight 6 gasoline engine. Especially in need of a head or full overhaul gasket set- here are some numbers... 6 handlights may or may not have enough draw to affect the batteries that much, not saying it isn't impossible. Any fire apparatus that has equipment on board which needs charging should either have the equipment tied into a separate 110V system that gets plugged in whenever the rig is in quarters, or the truck batteries should be monitored and charged as necessary by an on-board conditioner like a Kussmaul. They are not terribly expensive. Also, did you check the cells and make sure they are full of electrolytes (if they are not maintenance free??) Also I assume it has a Waterous Pump- if you dont get the pump books with the truck, make sure you call Waterous's customer service people and give them the pump S/N (from the rating plate on the pump panel) and ask for a complete new manual. They will send you a S/N specific 3-ring binder with the parts breakdowns and operation/care/maintenance & repair manual.

I cant figure out how to post a pic.....I was wrong. The emblem on the C fire cabs were circular, similar in size to this one, but not the same.

I am pretty sure it is the same emblem that was used on some "C" model custom fire cabs....let me see if i can dig up a pic......

He should have a good 1/2" drive torque wrench, my pop just got me one for Christmas (guess hes trying to tell me something as his has been living in my tool box for about a year.) Also dont be afraid to get brands other than the two tool trucks- Craftsman has always been good to me, Stanley (hard to find their auto mech tools made in the USA any more......EASCO/KD- again hard to find these made in the USA any more.......I have had some good luck with the brand at Lowes but I cant seem to remember the name right now........And also dont forget to check with the two tool truck guys about used tools/trade ins/repossessions. I have a real nice Snap On roller and chest that I got second hand. And of course nowadays he'll need a laptop, like a toughbook or equal, but wait for the school to tell you what to get. Also spend the money and get a good FLUKE diagnostic meter.

Wow....This really caught my attention- Has anyone ever heard of "Clarkins Car Accessories" in London, England? He responded to a post I placed on here about a full-overhaul gasket set for a 140GZ Waukesha engine. When I asked about pictures, he gave me the same gibberish about his computer not being able to handle it. I havent sent him the money yet but I think I will definitely ask for a photo with a recent newspaper next to it......Just to see what happens. I am a building inspector by trade. Usually detached accessory buildings dont have to follow any codes, but considering the weight you are going to place on the floor, I would do no less than 4" stone and 6" of 4000psi with #4 bars 16" on center each way. I have heard good things about the fiber-reinforced concrete but have no experience with it, dont see it a lot around here. One thing I do highly reccomend though- will you be heating it? Have you considered a hot-water heated slab???? The Volunteer FD here did a heated slab when they built their new building and they love it- it is very efficient, and not hard to do yourself. You would need a hot-water heater of course and a system to pump it through the tubes.

I am a fire marshal/fire inspector by trade and I wish I had a buck for every time I found an overloaded multi-strip. Many folks do not realize that the "average" $10 multi-strip sold at Wally world is only rated for 15-20 amps. I have lost count of the number of times that I have seen three or four high-amperage devices (hair dryers, air conditioners. etc) plugged into them. Also, I can GUARANTEE that every time I do a fire inspection in an office building, I will find one (or more) multi-strips plugged into another multi-strip; turning one outlet into 12.......As for smoke detectors, complaceny kills. I also inspect rental residential units and always fine MORE dead or missing batteries on one inspection than I find properly functioning detectors. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that everyone change their batteries twice a year, at the beginning and end of daylight savings time. This also goes for backup batteries in hard-wired detectors.

I got insurance just fine as a new customer just fine this past July from JC Taylor.....I switched over because Condon and Skelly's rates went WAY up (I assume that and the fact that they wont take add-ons anymore due to switching underwriters.) JC Taylor has a lot more "bang for the buck" including new this year- break down/flat tire/run out of gas/towing coverage- will FLAT BED TOW your LARGE TRUCK hook up fees and up to and including 50 miles......Anything after 50 miles is on you. I am very happy with JC Taylor thus far- nice folks to talk to on the phone, very prompt call-backs if I have questions, and even answers my questions via email if I want. I highly recommend them.

Leversole- this show is a private, non-advertised show- by word of mouth only. It is hosted by John B. Haines IV (of Haines and Kibblehouse, Reading Site Contractors, Blooming Glen Construction/Quarries, and a slew of other companies) at his home in the village of Hoppenville, Pa. (Montgomery County) near Green Lane Resovoir and the towns of Green Lane and Red Hill. Mr. Haines is a very gracious host, and his collection alone is about 40 trucks, in addition to the about 50 or so that show up for the show. I'll PM you the details.

The Montgomery Township Fire Department (Montgomery County Pa.) will be holding their first (and hopefully annual) Car/Truck Show this coming Saturday, September 17 at the Montgomeryville Mall on Route 309 in Montgomeryville Pa (just outside of Philly.) The mall is just down the street from "Malfunction Junction"- where Rts 309/202/463 cross one another. Show is open to all makes/models of cars/trucks/hot rods. etc. Registration is $15 for cars/trucks, $10 for motorcycles. Vendor spaces available for $30. All proceeds to benefit the operations and equipment of the volunteer fire department. I am posting this for them because as of this afternoon, they only had 15 vehicles registered. Who says C & S wont insure big trucks?? I was with them for 8+ years with my '58 FWD Firetruck (24' long and 18000lbs) I know many firetruck guys with rigs bigger than mine who are with C & S..... By the way I went to JC Taylor due to them having a Towing/Breakdown/Flat Tire addendum for 12 bucks a year, also C & S never offered this.

Absolutely NOT. I just (as in last month) signed up with JC Taylor after having been with Condon & Skelly for 8 years. All JC Taylor wanted was a photo of my truck, which is in "original" condition.

So.....I got a new vehicle liability policy for the antique firetruck. The policy came today, and I was reading through it.....This is exactly why everyone should read their policies carefully, even if they ARE boring as hell.....My policy says under EXCLUSIONS: "We do not provide medical payments coverage for any insured for bodily injury: (#7) Caused by or as a consequence of discharge of a nuclear weapon (even if accidentally.) Even if accidental???? WTF KIND OF A BULLSHIT POLICY IS THIS??????

From what I remember of my fathers two F Models, I cannot recall a safety latch to lock it "down", just a bar to lock it from coming back down when it is "up." Also, check the pump for a 1/4 turn valve, if it wont go up, turn the valve. You will need a long bar 4-5 feet long to "get your muscles into it."
