  1. Very familiar with Maxims. Almost bought an F-Model back in 2000. Glad I didnt, got my '58 F.W.D. instead which has major league sentimental value as it was delivered new to my volly company when it was new, it was the truck my father trained to drive on (he was 17 when it was delivered) and it was the first firetruck I ever rode on when I was three; dad took me to a parade on it.
  2. Paul, did you attend the all Ahrens-Fox gathering/muster at the Fire Museum of Maryland last year? Foxes only. About 30 of them from all over the US.
  3. Use standard gear oil to replace it. Like any other oil, get it hot and let it drain for a while.
  4. Dont use the internet for an appraisal. Contact the ATCA, or AACA, or the Mack Museum to get the name of a true appraiser. Apologies to the scoundrels on here for the lack of faith but that one looks too pretty for an internet/weekend appraiser.
  5. Harvey Eckert just relayed through a friend that details will be released to the truck clubs and SPAAMFAA chapters shortly. Will be a 2-day event, Friday and Saturday Oct 27-28
  6. Whoever gives them out doesnt have a hair on their ass to give me one!
  7. No but as a teenager I did get caught with my first girlfriend in her bedroom in an extremely naked and uncompromising position (well, for her mother at least) by her mother when she came home from work early one day.....only time in my life I actually wished I was j------ o-- in the closet......I still have nightmares to this day about it......
  8. Hey Carl, speaking of Harvey did you see him breaking my balls in the latest issue of The Pennsylvania Fireman??
  9. I dont know if Hale has maintained their records as good as Waterous has over the years....Yer on your own there. Waterous had everything, and I do mean everything...then in the 80's it was converted to microfiche, and then after that to digitally stored media. I called out there one day and the guy had all my info on the computer screen as fast as I could rattle off the serial number.
  10. Dont know why...Mack didnt make the xfer case, it's either a Waterous or Hale xfer case....BTW if it is Waterous, if you get the SN off the plate on the pump panel and call them, they will send you a serial-number specific book for that pump and xfer case with pick/build sheets, parts breakdowns and all specifications.
  11. Several have commented on this in my Hoppenville thread, figured I would start a new thread to get more exposure....Rumor has it that there will be an antique truck show at the Mack Trucks Customer Center on 10/27 but other than that, no one seems to know very much. Doug Maney? Anyone? Anyone? Is it open to any brand of trucks ('cept for paccar products of course) what time? will food be there? (no food in walking distance...) If you do have to get food I highly recommend The Tilted Kilt out on Lehigh Street....good food and excellent scenery....get pics of TK ladies on your antique.....
  12. Duh..Yarnall I saw you posted Oct. 20. Unfortunately I wont make it then, as I am getting paid to have the FWD Firetruck in a wedding on that day down near Philly.
  13. Someone just called me tonight asking about this, I know nothing about it.......Would appreciate any info if anyone does have any......Also for John Haines IV's show
  14. Anyone have the date for this year??
  15. G-dammit!!!!! not when I am drinking a soda!!!! Now I have to clean the screen and keyboard!!!!!
  16. I use Meguires Tire Shine, and the lettering with a silver grease pencil- it shows white on the tire.
  17. This windshield will also work in CF cab fire apparatus, you should post it in the firetrucks section as well.
  18. I've never heard of this. I have been painting steel diamond plate on fire trucks since christ was a corporal and have never had any problems with plain silver. Sure it rubs off after several years at contact points (like where you step to climb in.....) but other then that no problems at all?????????
  19. He's a Mack restoration guro near Harrisburg Pa. Mostly firetrucks but if it has a bulldog on it he might have it. I think I have seen someone else on here post his number before, look in the firetruck threads, if not get back to me, I can dig it up.
  20. Vinny have you tried Cal Little?
  21. Putting a Detroit into a U-Model is like school on Christmas Day........ NO CLASS!!!!!!
  22. 41 Chevy you spelled "FDNY" wrong. I have seen a rather detailed list of bidding instructions on an official NYCDCAS webpage before, just cannot remember exactly where. There is a truck junkyard in Cooperburg Pa on Route 309 that buys ex-FDNY apparatus from the city pretty regularly. You do not deal with FDNY at all, it's all NYCDCAS. And no offense, I really seriously hope you are not trying to get that thing at Flushing airport- it has been rotting there for years and years, has been submerged several times, has had water frozen in all of the nooks and crannies- the thing is absolutely and literally JUNK. Any day now it will desintegrate and turn into dust. Lets not even mention the fact that no offical city records probably even exist for the thing anymore.
  23. The stainless A-Cars were specially built for Edgecomb Steel. There are a few of them left because the damn things were indestructible; I forget how many were made vs how many are left. The "Friends of Autocar" annual meeting is coming up soon, Sept 16 or 23 I forget which one, I am a member of the group and may try to go but dont know if I'll make it, if I do go I'll ask.
  24. He could do all that or just switch to a 4-cycle diesel engine that doesnt blow smoke, drip oil, break the sound barrier or think it's a lawn mower.
