  1. No money in the budget for a new heating system. I **might** look into seeing if a buddy could fiddle with the existing oil-fired hot air furnace, and would consider lighting that off during periods of very cold weather. However money is tight. This was an isolated event- how often do we go from zero degree weather with no humidity to 50 degrees with 99% humidity? It just does not happen every day. Been here for 9 years now and it never happened.
  2. If it appears that they hassle you about these questions (if the Judge is siding with the Cops) you should immediately stop and politely ask for a continuance so that you can gather evidence, IE records of the calibration, the officer's training records, etc etc. If you appear serious about this, the judge may take you seriously and decide "yeah you know what this isn't worth anyone's time" and throw out the whole case. Or he could grant it, or outright deny it. Either way you don't lose anything. I mentioned fighting a BS speeding ticket- it was a VASCAR ticket in Pennsylvania. The two white line method. I got it dismissed by advising the Judge that I filed several motions for discovery prior to the court date- I asked for the Officer's medical records- I wanted to see when the last time he had his eyes checked. When I got the ticket it was at night, well after dark, and the white lines were very weathered. They never sent me his records even after two certified letters. I showed the judge the letters and the return receipts, advised they never sent me the records. The Judge asked the Officer about it, and he claimed to have no knowledge of my request. I then said "Your honor I cannot prove I was not speeding, and he cannot prove that I was. Therefore I respectfully request that you dismiss the charges." He didn't even think twice and banged the gavel saying "so ordered."
  3. ECD- in October of 2010 I weighed about 385. Around Thanksgiving of 2011 My Doctor had a heart-to-heart (pardon the pun) with me about my heart, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, back problems, etc but mostly about the high BP, cholesterol and type II diabetes. Told me that if I stayed on the path that I was on, that by Christmas of 2012 I would have full-blown diabetes and would be giving myself a shot in the stomach everyday. I said "SCREW THAT." (except using a different word.) I cut back on a lot of activities, including being a volunteer firefighter. (I had to medically retire from my career firefighting job due to my back injury which was aggravated by my weight....) Had RNY gastric bypass on May 30, 2012. The day of surgery I weighed 328lbs. Yesterday at the gym I weighed in at 197. I am up at 0500 4 days per week (if not more) and am at the gym by 0530. If I don't get there, I get PISSED!!!! Living healthy and losing weight has allowed me to do things I have not done in years. I am enjoying doing things with my boys (a lot of sledding in all this snow lately for one) I have also become active once again with my volunteer fire department, not only in a driving capacity (which is all I was able to do for years due to the weight and bad back) but also as an interior firefighter as well- watch this old man run circles around the kids and climb over them when they wimp out in hallways!!) Bulldogman and I constantly egg on one another on Facebook about our gym schedules and thrive off each other, all in fun of course! Good on you for making the decision to get back in the gym- and remember that getting in the gym is half the battle, you also have to eat healthy if you want to be healthy!!
  4. If I were an O/O and didn't have the money for a lawyer, I think the first thing I'd do would be to file a RTK request or a Motion for Discovery (don't have to be a lawyer to do that) to determine how many fines they have issued for trucks on that roadway. Secondly I would go there and take photos of where the "NO TRUCKS" signs are, and create a map graphic to show where they are placed in reference to the routes that access the forbidden path. I would address the Judge in a respectful tone, and state that "Your honor, I am a good, law-abiding person and do not have a criminal record of any kind. I have a clean driving record with no moving violations, and have been a professional driver for "X" amount of years equating to "XXXXXXX" miles of safe, accident and violation free driving. In light of the evidence I have presented today, in conjunction with the fact that I have a clean record, I move that this violation, as well as all of the other violations I have shown in the evidence presented as well as with the Officer's statement that "he sits there regularly and cleans house" that this is nothing more than a revenue-collection farce by the Municipality and/or an attempt by the Officer to pad his stats. I am not denying the fact that I violated the local ordinance, however due to lack of ample notification through signage prior to reaching the roadway in question, I respectfully request your mercy and dismiss the charges, or at the very least a reduction of the fees. ..................or something like that. I played the game a few years ago and got a bullshit speeding ticket thrown out........GOOD LUCK let us know
  5. Heh!
  6. AGREED. It's in the past. Let it stay there.
  7. Ken the garage is detached. Insulation in the walls, but not the roof or ceiling. There is an old oil-fired hot air furnace out there that the previous owner installed that worked when I first moved in 8 years ago, but broke down year two or three. Besides when it does run, it's pretty thirsty. This has never happened before- the gradual cool down to freezing temps and then an all of a sudden overnight rise to 50 degrees with an accompanying onslaught of humidity........Usually we get the gradual cool-down and a gradual raise in temp, so this has never been an issue before. I dont worry about the cold temps out there. If I need to go out there and work I have a propane heater I light up a half-hour ahead of time; by the time I wanna start work it's fairly tolerable out there. I went out last night and put the box fan on high, and this morning I went out around 7:00 and much of the condensation was gone, I opened the door 2 feet and let the fan run. Hopefully that will dry it up out there. I'm banking that this was an isolated event and wont be a regular occurrence.
  8. I have Mates in Mount Barker, SA and over in Melbourne......When I told them it hit -17c last week they about had a fit....!!!
  9. Well as I am sure many of you know the weather here the last week and a few days was brutally cold and close to no humidity. What you may not know is that yesterday and today we had a very dramatic warm-up, the high today was 57 and a little more than 2 inches of rain, so the air was pretty damp. I went out to the garage earlier tonight to get a screw driver, and the first thing I notice when I flick on the lights is the windows of the FWD are completely fogged up with condensation. So is all of the sheet metal, and anything else metal in the garage including my three billion dollars worth of tool boxes.....And the concrete floor, and the metal storage lockers I have out there.....Seems the sudden warm up with the humidity caused everything inside the garage that was ice cold to form condensation. Shit. I have the overhead door cracked an inch and two box fans running out there now to circulate the air. Supposed to be sunny and 42 degrees tomorrow so I plan on opening the garage door wide open and letting it really air out well.
  10. What? I'm innocent I tell you......Besides, can I help it if he had a lot of testosterone at a young age?
  11. Found this picture of our own Slpwlkr when he was just a one-year old tot, learning to walk......
  12. If thats the same R "tanker" I am looking at Mike, I wouldnt touch that thing with a 10 foot pole. That rig started out in life as a 1000 pumper with a 500 tank. What do you want to bet they didn't change out the rear suspension and drive when they added the extra weight of 500 more gallons of water plus the stainless tank and everything else? I bet that thing is BEAT.
  13. Detroit Diesels are the biggest POS's.........What? Wait......what were we talking about?
  14. I'm going to ask someone that might know........joemac have you asked Dan or Bill Supplee if they know where it is????
  15. Nice looking Hayward F-Model at the bottom........I'm getting moist........
  16. Wow.....hey that's pretty cool!!!!!!!
  17. I just swapped emails with Harvey right before Christmas, I am sure he will be amused to know that he is supposed to be pushing up daisies. Hey joemac, I see that you are in SE Pa. I am originally from Montgomery County. I have a sneaking suspicion I know where you were and who the self-proclaimed "expert" was......I am dying to know.....Care to share with us? Or you could even private message me.......Inquiring minds want to know!!!!
  18. I've hit "quote" a couple of times for slpwlkr's comment above but it's not working for some reason- so here's a cut and paste quote and reply: Slpwlkr: "Been to the Pete forum and just felt dirty afterwards." Shit if I went onto the Pete forum I would have to run over my computer with the FWD, smash the remaining pieces with a sledge hammer, then burn that with a torch, and then dump the ashes into the river. Let's not even discuss driving a pete..........
  19. Momack thanks for the reply, I will give them all a looksee. I'm not too concerned with performance, I want MPG's. Right now I all I am getting on average is 13.5 to 14.5 or 15 if my right foot behaves. I do have about 300 lbs in sandbags over the drive axle for winter traction. Would love to see 16-17, anything over that is BONUS!!!! I was toying around with the idea of one of these cold air intake kits but have had more than one person (yourself included) tell me not to, and instead invest in something like a MagnaFlow Super 40 Cat Back exhaust kit. Do you have any experience with this or something similar?
  20. Funny you mention that.....I just joined a Chevy Silverado forum and started asking questions about an aftermarket air intake and dual exhaust........and yeah I feel like I'm an intruder.
  21. Anyone running a Chevy 1500 Silverado 4WD with the 5.3L engine? Or something similar? Looking at installing a K & N or a GreenFilter cold air intake kit in order to gain some MPG's and was looking for an evaluation or opinion. Anyone? Anyone??
  22. Union made in Canton, Mississippi. Sure it may be a foreign brand but thousands of Americans work there. Same as with my Kia Sedona- Union made in West Point, Georgia. If American manufacturers want my support, they need to come out with standard options, warranties, prices and dependability that go above the "other guy." Because I got a boatload of standard options on that Kia that would have been options on the other brands, she's just about bomb-proof, and the price was wayyyyy better than anything comparable from the "Big Three."
  23. I'm waiting for one of the 2014 Nissan Titan's with the new small-block V8 Cummins 5.0L
  24. Junior- Does Mommy and Daddy know you are on the computer again when you should be doing your homework? The man needs an engine for a truck, not a goddamn lawn mower. Go away!
  25. Doug is correct, The CF Series custom fire cab was based on the F-Series highway tractor. Much of the sheet metal is the same, except for certain features like the front of course. Doors are one in the same for example, and the forward part of the cab as well. Good luck trying to find an intact CF cab as they are heavily sought out by fire guys. The few of them that are out there have either been used or are rotted out and have had the usable sheet metal already cut out.
