There you go Paul, it sounds very close to a Mack V8! So apart from keeping 100% Mack, if desire is to have a V8 as close as possible to an E9, and want to keep a Mack truck going, it seems to me that say resting and preserving the E9 in the shed, running a Scania V8 for working purposes (reliable and compliant for the regs etc) then it would be a win/win.
-
I have been seeing late model cab over V8 Scania's recently in Melbourne Australia and with 1 exhaust pipe, they do sound very similar to the Mack V8's. Yet I have not seen any with 2 stacks. about 3 months ago I spoke to an owner driver of a cab over Scania with V8 and 18 spd manual box, he pulls a low loader, hauling excavators and similar heavy equipment. He bought it new and said a fantastic truck, motor has never given any issues, good fuel economy and pulls too. And as he got moving fully loaded with 35 ton machine, I was right next to the truck, gee it sounded very close to a Mack E9. So if all else fails, could the Scania V8 be an option for a good condition Mack Superliner and the Aussie V8 Valueliner, and given it is current Scania motor it would meet the latest emissions regs in USA and Aust! I wonder how compatible the engine mountings are for Mack E9 and the Scania V8? A comparison is the Subaru boxer 2 litre motor being fitted into VW Beetles and the VW Combi wagons. I also notice there appears to be many of the V8 Scania's in the UK and Ireland, that travel across Europe, single and tandem drives with tri-axle fridge or dry pantechs.

I read news today that AB is fed up, he can't handle the media etc, !!! Once they are on the opposite side of the desk all their huff and puff is evaporated, bit like Samson, (AB lost his desk and his TV Donald hair piece) after Delilah cut his hair he lost his mojo 😂 and so quickly! Neil Sedaka's song ... the roof has fallen in ...

May I suggest that after you fit the new panel, apply rust converter to any other surface rust, then apply a clear prime seal coat top and bottom to protect immediately. Then buy a pail of Lizard skin and spray all the underside and top side floor, especially all the weld joints and seam joints. Best to clean underside with high pressure to remove all crap etc. The LS will give you a life time protection, have a look at B75 restoration posts, there are pics there to see the LS applied to our B model, he applied in his cabin. A bit expensive but pays for itself because you know you have sealed the steel panels properly and you can rest with ease. Make sure you cab is water tight, especially water leakage from the windscreen rubbers. And you can apply it to inside bottom of the doors, but do the rust conversion first.

Let `em rot
harrybarbon replied to skydawg's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I see many pictures on this forum and facebook truck pages with many old trucks effectively rotting slowly. And on some properties there are many trucks and other equipment, eg old quarries or construction company sites. The US is a big country with a big population and economy, you have had big productions of trucks and cars, compared to Australia. Most of our trucks have been imported, yes there is a Mack manufacturing operation but most parts come from US. So naturally you have substantial numbers of old trucks laying about that have not been sent for recycling (although I have read that dictator councils have been aggressive in this regard of recent years so reducing old truck numbers). So when I see all those old trucks laying in the US fields and they are so low in $value, we sure could have some fun down here, especially when we see usable parts on trucks that will go to waste, instead of someone with some effort remove and store those valuable parts that are often sought, such a cab clearance lights that mostly are not damaged, door components etc, the list is endless, again instead of rotting or going into recycling. However, that said, ultimately each owner does have a right to decide what they do with their old gear. -
Thank you Hans. Being 1989 and original it a 4 valve unit, if correct good motor. Your Superliner does look to be quite good considering it came from a NE cold / snow US state, especially little rust.
-
Hi Hans, please can you tell us what year is it, engine, gearbox and diffs are in your Superliner. I see spyders on the rear and buds up front! It looks pretty good, original and complete. Appears it has sat quietly without anybody attacking it over the years. What is the frame and cabin condition, much rust? Your luck was meant to direct you to your new -old Mack. That kinda happened to me 3 years ago. I saw an add for an old Supeliner here in Aussie land, called the vendor and in short he said that it was pretty rough for what I was looking for, but he said I have a Valueliner been sitting for 2 years since he got it and 6 years before with the previous owner, got it on a machinery trade. He had no use for it. It had all that I could have wanted and similar to yours in appearance about 98% original. I had a Mack man check it out and he gave his tick of approval. We negotiated a fair price and after 6 months we took it home. And there was a another surprise that the vendor and I discovered later. Unknown to the vendor, his Superliner was the 1st Superliner built in Australia and from memory it had the original motor in it. It was in a sad condition. He found out after he sold it to a collector, who will restore it to original. Good luck and enjoy your Superliner.

1948 DIAMOND T 201 SOLD AT HERSHEY AUCTION
harrybarbon replied to HarryS's topic in Other Truck Makes
Brocky I think the Princess has been in mourning since she lost her man, she has not ventured out of her home castle since his funeral and of course Covid. They attended many shows over the years, from east to west. We miss our mate, at morning tea and afternoon tea, Ian always had a way with words and comments, a dry sense of humor. And everybody was christened with a nickname. Alan who built Princess Dianna Seduce and other trucks (he was at Tony's 2015 when you guys were there), his nickname is TapTap 😂 -

harrybarbon replied to HarryS's topic in Other Truck Makes
Brocky we did meet at Tony's dinner and the day you guys were eyeing his BIG KENNEL filled with DOGGIES 😃 And you spoke to me at Ian's when you were looking at Kermit (the green Irish Bulldog christened by Ian, usual practice of coming up with appropriate names, his forte, hence the famous Princess Dianna that he enjoyed sleeping in when and the Princess when on their trips across Australia to shows), as Kermit was in progress in Ian's workshop. You saw Tony's Seduce (his custom red B75 with the Pete sleeper cab) that was in front of his main doggie kennel, I am not sure if it was Ian or Tony that came with the name, to be investigated. -

1948 DIAMOND T 201 SOLD AT HERSHEY AUCTION
harrybarbon replied to HarryS's topic in Other Truck Makes
Hello Brocky Thank you for the information, much appreciated. I was there with you guys in 2015, at Mack Heaven in Australia. Unfortunately our Kermit was not complete for the trip to Alice (you saw Kermit in Ian Lee's workshop when you visited Ian's workshop) so I had planned to be Ian's passenger to Alice in 2015. However, I did not join Ian in Princess Dianna for the trip to Alice because Kevin All had at the 11th hour decided to come over and it was only fair for me to give up my seat for Kevin. So my mate Max and I flew to Brisbane, we hired a car went to the Gatton museum, then to Dalby to see Tom Saxelby's (sadly he died last year, I will try post some of his trucks) big excellent collection of Macks and Inters then across to Longreach to see the Qantas planes and museum and meet Ian and Kevin as they drove to Tony's. We followed them to Rocky and had dinner with all of you guys as guests of Tony and family. Ian had visited a few truck collections in the USA and Canada, objectively, he said Tony's was equal to those over there. At the 2018 Mack muster at Kyabram, Victoria, Kermit and Princess Dianna were together and Tony was there with his latest new Aussie Mack with his Tony Champion custom hood and he had picked up another baby Mack Mack fully restored (navy blue colour) from Clappo. Hopefully I can post pictures, if so I will post this baby Mack. My mates and I had planned to attend Alice with our Macks for the 2020 five yearly show and then 2021 (the delayed 2020 show) and after Alice I was going to go to Rocky and then make my way home via Brisbane and Sydney. Covid stopped our plans. I was looking forward to see Gary Zary's B61 now in Tony's collection. All the best to you guys over there. -
I declare that I am no fan of Baldwin. Today in our local paper full 2 pages on this very sad and completely preventable tragedy. These are some excepts from our newspaper. James Gunn US film director - the rules were changed after Brandon Lee died ... but more rules will not help if the rules aren't followed, which is usually how accidents happen on set. Producers etc need to be hardcore about making sure all the safety protocols are followed at all times. Guilaume Delouche - Hollywood armourer who has supplied weapons to filmmakers for 30 + years. Protocols are necessarily strict comparing the double and triple checks with the way areoplane saftey systems operate. Blank weapons are treated as if they were real weapons. Once they on the set we organise the blank ammunition which is marked and coloured coded. First we show the crew and actors that the gun is empty before loading it, when we put blanks in it we announce it, several times. We have strict safety distances, you can't have someone less than 20 feet (6m) in front of a weapon when it is fired. It is better to never aim at someone directly. If we need to be closer we put up Plexiglass walls and cover the operators etc with fire blankets, anti noise helmets and safety glasses. If a blank is put in behind a dummy it effectively becomes a live round. That is what cost Brandon Lee's his life, there was never a check by the prop maker, which would have prevented the accident. I think these comments indicate that Baldwin, the person in charge- THE BOSS, did not do his job, based on what has been reported he did not follow the rules and protocols. If he made sure the protocols were strictly followed possibility of an accident was NIL. Will he be held accountable the same way a transport boss would be treated if a truck has accident, people die because protocols were not followed?

is this the same model that Mack used to badge as the Mack baby pick up? -
Sad news of 1 dead and 1 critical. How could he be holding and firing a live loaded gun on a film set in 2021, with all the industry safety procedures? I read he is the producer, so he is in ultimate control and should be accountable! He ridiculed the President with joy for what, 3 years weekly on TV, what will be said of Baldwin now? Where does the buck stop here?

Now that we are in politically correct times, there was a time back that our fairer gender was referred to as a cow. It seems that Billy boy is thinking of his golden times now that he is "free" as they say from the big "M"!!! And maybe if we were or are locked up with a "cow" in a comfy garage, I am not convinced that the cow would be emitting much pollution - what do you think? And maybe Billy boy has spent so much time with computer machines he may have forgotten how to tell the difference between a ... and a machine 🤣

Matt Is your radiator bolted to the trolley? 🤔 -
Is Fauci getting much media exposure presently over there in USA? Around Feb or March this year, in our weekend Melbourne Age newspaper in the separate "Weekender" magazine there was feature story about Fauci, his history, rise to the top job and how fantastic a job he was doing, all positive glory. It was hero status stuff. After that glowing story, our Australian Newspaper published a major damning article about him about 3 months ago, detailing information of his supposed connection and US funding contributions to the Wuhan lab on viruses. Since then there has not been 1 mention of Fauci, as if he has gone AWOL! We never hear his name mentioned in any of the news stories! Whereas before the Australian article, Fauci's name was reported maybe weekly to do with the Covid medical updates.

Yes Orville did make the sleeper cabs for all the Eastern US truck manufacturers, by modifying the new bare metal day cabs. which the manufacturers sent to Orville plus new panels and parts as required. Orville did the complete extension and painted the bare cabs, the painted cabs were then sent back to the manufacturer for completion. I have copies of Orville original factory pictures and hand written notes, by one of the ex serviceman who worked at Orville after WW2, of how they extended the cabs. Problem is that I cannot post attachments, I have asked what I can do but no answers.

Hi Paul thank you for the video, especially during our 🔒 here in the wonderful state of Victoria 😆 All the best with the remaining repairs and then the trip home to Kerang. Please is there a hole in the bonnet/hood nest the Doggie for access to the radiator? Enjoy the rest of your passion for this unique livestock trailer. Harry

Any knowledge of motor in it, appears to be diesel! Maybe not original as back then it may have been V8 petrol or gas or 6 cyl Inter motors with the Inter 5 spd box and 2 speed rear diff Stunning truck, I notice it has the later indicator turning lights, they were on the later comfo vision cabs, yet this is the older Inter sleeper cab with the 2 split windows (built by the Orville cab company for Inter) and the earlier style door handles, so wondering if the cab is a retro fit or just the later indicator lights fitted?

B-73 Restoration
harrybarbon replied to mattb73lt's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hi Matt I have tried to post a picture of our under dash Vintage air unit, but cant post it. I see you have the original heater unit/box under the dash, so I think that with the original heater box and the fire wall, it is unlikely the Vintage Air unit will fit in the space you have. You can check the Vintage Air web page to see what air con units they have, good luck and it's looking fantastic. -

Hi Matt You mention air conditioning. We fitted Vintage air, mounts under the dash and excellent cooling and heating, especially with the lizard skin. I will try posting some pictures as I have not been able to post like a number of the guys on here. -
