  1. I'd bet there's lots of folks who secretly wish they could drive a Peterbilt (original post rearranged by other dog, A.K.A putting words in people's mouths -learned by watching Rob in action )
  2. A hay wagon will cross anyone up. Hard to back up because the tongue makes an extra pivot point. We'd usually hook the tongue on the front of the tractor to back them in the barn or shed, that made it a little easier.
  3. Made this video today, might help when you need to resize a picture. Had to put it on youtube first to link it here.
  4. my Thermodyne emblem came off in 3 pieces too. One of the broken pieces had no stud, and it had the double sided sticky stuff on it. I never knew it was broken until I took it off, and I asked the body shop man about putting it back on when I pick it up and he said "no problem", so I wouldn't throw anything away, could be reusable.
  5. I use "paint"-just right click on the picture, another window opens and one of the selections will say "open with". move the cursor over that, another window opens and one of the options is "paint" on my vista. I click on "paint" and the whole picture shows, way bigger than the screen. click on "image" at the top and then "resize" and you can type in what percentage of the original size you want. I usually go about 35-40% to start, that's still usually a little bigger that full screen size. Then you can also use "crop" to cut out stuff you don't want in the picture, and you can write on it, draw on it, change all sorts of stuff-like I did the speedometer and Rob's beard pictures. When you're done you have to click "save" ,under "file". Click "save as" to keep the original too, because once you click "save" that's what it'll be, and you can't get the original back. "Save" is fine if you're just resizing, but if you're doing other stuff to it, you might want to do "save as" so you can keep the original photo too.
  6. idea-next time, dig up half a load of dirt out of the front yard and load it in the dump truck and let her drive that to school.
  7. I don't know-looks like it could have been a high speed U.S.Express Freightliner, or a non-driving Celadon Volvo. Or any bullwagon-i've had all of them blow by me in the snow like they were on dry roads. That's you in the dump truck,eh?
  8. wow, thanks Mike! I know that'll cost you a bundle to feed everybody, but we really appreciate it. Just let us know when
  9. yeah,i'd never noticed that before!
  10. last time I used it I made a pallet...sorta kinda.
  11. staples like you use on barbed wire fence would have been much quicker-I had to drive the nails half way, then bend them over with my hammer. still got that hammer.
  12. ddn't have a side kit, just a regular flatbed. had to tarp 'em too.
  13. Slacking off a little on the old blog here. Except for sitting for 10 hours Monday waiting to get unloaded in Roxana, Il. I had a pretty good week. I was supposed to pick up a load in Jackson, Tn. and deliver it in Pounding Mill, Va. at 12:30 Tuesday, but it took so long to get unloaded there was no way I could make it. Earliest appointment I could get Wednesday was for 1:30, so then I had time to kill. I could have gotten there about 5:30 or 6:00 Monday, but I stopped at the Davy Crocket truckstop in Tennessee. When I unloaded in Pounding Mill I reloaded at the same place going to Chattanooga, then loaded in Chattanooga for Lynchburg. Then to the yard and loaded up for Roxana again to deliver Monday. got a couple of pictures here-thought I saw nocluejoe driving the buggy truck in Knoxville, but it wasn't him. It was a cabover Pete buggy truck.... speaking of cabover Petes, saw this unit for sale in Montvale, Va. Don't see this setup in the east much. I thought about winning the lottery, buying this truck, and moving out west and be a hay hauler. Or move next door to Rob just to annoy him. pretty neat picture of the PC screen-nice background picture,eh? (that's Canadian)
  14. yeah, I had only been driving a Peterbilt for a short time and I forgot which pedal you stepped on to slow down. One caused you to to speed up, and I didn't want to step on the wrong one. So I pulled over and stopped and got the manual out and read it, and was just about to pull back onto the road when a load of live chickens went by at a high rate of speed. Thought I heard somebody yelling "Earl, you wanna screw that thing back on there?" as they went by, but i'm not sure. Anyhow, when I got down to Pagosa Springs there was the chicken truck sticking out of the side of the feed store. Minus the top row of chickens of course-the 12' tunnel wiped them off. Only had my bananas stacked to 11'6''. Bananas are tricky to haul too. You've got to chain them down tight enough to keep them on the wagon, but not too tight or you'll bruise them. Reminds me of the time they sent me to Morganton, Ga. to pick up a load. I followed the directions and ended up at a farm. A fellow wearing bib overalls met me and I said "what am I loading here?". He said "chickens". So I said "there must be some mistake, you can't haul chickens on a flatbed". He said "sure you can, just nail their peckers to the floor-now you pull in this chicken house and load up, i'll be back with the paperwork in a few minutes". So I pulled in and was working furiously trying to catch chickens and get them loaded. After a while the man came back and he was looking at me like I was crazy. Only had a few chickens loaded, and I was getting mad too. So I said "what?!!-you said to nail their peckers to the floor!". And he said "yeah, but I was talking about the one on their face"..
  15. That looks really good -just don't tell Rob you used anything off a Pete, or you'll never hear the end of it
  16. did I ever tell you about the time I lost my brakes right after I started down Wolf Creek pass in a blizzard, with 52,000 lbs. of bananas on?.. It was a dark and stormy August night, around 1953 or 54. I was driving a 1958 Peterbilt, headed to Bangor, Maine. Loaded the night before in Houston, Tx. but took a wrong turn somewhere around Chattanooga...
  17. I can see that, short haul, or lots of stop and go-might be nice.
