  1. I just purchased a Pete. 1985 359, 300 Cummins,9 sp. I am guilty of having a weak moment. Brad

Nothing wrong with a Peterbilt- as i've said before all of my downtime has been because of the Cat engine, nothing really that I can blame on Peterbilt.

  2. Just stirring the shit. One too many turbos on the motor in that truck.

This is true. The one I drive is a 2006 with the twin turbo ACERT 550 hp, and there's no comparison to the older single turbo 550's performance wise. The old 400 and "4 and a quarter" Cats probably would out pull the 550 I drive, everything else being equal.

  3. Old Bill, AKA The Diesel Gypsy, sent me this neat Caterpillar bottle opener/magnet. Here i'll demonscrate it's use-right in line with the "What's Your Favorite Beer" topic. It probably opens soda bottles just as well, but i've never tested that function.

  4. Pabst Blue Ribbon was one of the first beers I drank, then I started drinking Stroh's I believe it was, then Old Milwaukee. Old Milwaukee is plentiful and popular around here. I've drank a boatload of it myself, but I switched to Bud Light as a compromise with a friend. He drank Budweiser, but it gave me a head ache, and he didn't like Old Milwaukee, so we'd always buy Bud Light when we got together and I just switched to it altogether. Now i've switched to AB Natural Light, mainly because it's cheap, but it tastes like water with a little beer mixed in it.

I used to smuggle a case or two of Old Style back from Chicago some times, back in the '80's, but i'd be afraid to have one can stashed on the trailer now.

I bought some Blue Ribbon in long neck bottles last summer- first time i'd drank it for years, and it was mighty tasty!

I've tried most all at one time or another, from Falstaff to Ballantine, but the worst ever had to be Carling Black Label followed by National Bohemian. I don't think they even make those anymore, but that's a good thing as far as i'm concerned.

  5. Sure glad you dropped all them parts off at the shop. Sorry I missed you but I was out scouting a new business venture, other wise we'd had dinner and you wouldn't have left so hungry.

Gonna need all that stuff in the near future.

    Rob

you're quite welcome. all the other parts (brake shoe, connecting rod, hose) really suck, but I must say the driveshaft was excellent!..well, pretty good anyway...maybe not excellent.

OK, the driveshaft wasn't half bad- it's at least a recognizable part.

  6. Oh Yea, What branch of service is or was he in with those dog tags around his neck?

    mike

They say he's a citizen of Camel county and he's had his rabies vaccination. But he might have been in a top secret branch of the service before he got here, I don't know. He doesn't talk about his past much, and whenever I bring it up he changes the subject.

  7. Looks like you could teach him how to pee inside if you can teach him to pee outside.

    mike

I probably could I guess, but I never taught him to pee outside. He's the only dog I ever saw that was apparently born housebroken. He's really smart too, almost as smart as I am. And he just showed up one day and made himself at home, when I lived in Appomattox. Only inside dog i've ever had too.

  8. How much snow did you end up with? We've got 4 to 6"+ on the way for monday I guess...yay.

that's about what we ended up with here, 5 or 6". Not nearly as much as they were calling for but just a little ways north they got twice that much, and they got a couple of feet in northern Va.

  9. Sure appreciate it. There is always something to overlook. Daughter will be in this truck so wanting it safe as I can make it. If I had the original "Mack" scripted hub caps, I'd go with packing the bearings with grease, but at the present I'll stay with oil.

    Thanks,

    Rob

reckon she'd be interested in trading it for a cement mixer?

  10. Tom,

Have yaw eaten any yellow snow yet? :D

    mike

no, haven't eaten any, but I have seen some around. The dog doesn't like to go very far when it's cold. He refuses to go out at all when it's raining, but he's never peed inside.

  11. Macks were built to move mountains with minimum horsepower and a lot of gear advantage.

If you haven't done so already -

Go online and find a gear ratio or final drive ratio calculator - there are lots of them and they are easy to use.

Feed it the required data - tire diameter, max or desired rpm and final drive ratio (including any overdrive multiplier) to get the speed at that particular rpm.

7.88/1.00 is probably too much gear for a road truck. Great for pulling a load though! If your truck will be used in a lot of parades or other fairly slow activities, it might be real good, but you won't be passing too many people.

Even with a .65 overdrive, the final drive is over 5.12/1.00, which is still a pretty low final drive ratio by today's standards.

    Paul Van Scott

I think that's the same ratio as the mixer-it is great in parades, and I do not pass many people on the road. Usually there's a long line of traffic behind me waving a finger at me.

  12. Hey Rob if you do make him one of those i'll run up there and get it with the 'ol suburban.....lol. u might have to help me out on gas money though, it really likes gas......i mean seriously

just make sure you take 64 east in Lexington instead of 75 south. We wouldn't want my grill to end up in LaFollette.

  13. Hey now.....just get some stew going. Or maybe a beef roast and taters with carrots and some greens from tha garden. It all goes with anything ya won't to put it with. Hum....making myself hungry. I'll have to drive cross town on my lunch break for some soul food if I keep talkin bout it. :P

    mike

by the way, we were talking about greens New Years day. I had a can of creeces, and nobody else had even heard of them. I figured you or Bollweevil had, but neither of you was anywhere to be found. Ever had creeces, or creecy greens as some people call them?

  14. I bought one Christmas 08 for my g/f and hooked it up to her big screen tv. Weve played it about maybe 15 times and has been giving trouble showing a picture. It might play sometimes. Was told the LG brand was good, it had a good prise attached. I now have it at home in the original box ready for a repair man, when I get around to it.

    mike

I can't get this one to do anything-can't figure out the ins and outs

Jo has an LG phone, but it won't play a DVD either.

I got a recipe that Old Bill told me to try in the crock pot now-a rack of spare ribs, cut up so they'd fit, and 2 cans of sauer kraut. Nothing else, no seasonings. I'm not that big on sauer kraut, but he said it was delicious and to give it a try.

Speaking of Old Bill, he called me yesterday. Said he was going to try to get his website back up when he can afford to.

  16. Ya mean only 3......that would just get me blinking alittle out of one eye. :thumb:

    mike :thumb:

Well I bought 2 cases this morning, but I don't know if i'll be snowbound for a long time or not, so I gotta ration it.
