  1. It's hell being short ain't it? I'm a whoppin 5'9. I can't ride with no air in the seat so I have just enough in it...but you can't beat the feeling when the air-ride seat bottoms out.

The Peterbilt style clutch is hard to get used to. Whenever I hop in my brother's truck I'm always afraid my foot is going to slip off...only I'm in it usually to move it in or out of the shed.

That is a problem. I like the suspended clutch pedal too, but i'm kinda used to the Peterbilt now. Your foot can slip off the pedal really easily, especially when your shoes are wet or muddy. Had to get used to no air in the seat too and I don't like it.(OK Freightrain, have at it!) With a usable air ride seat you barely even feel a bump, but if I put any air in the seat at all I could only see about 7 feet in front of me.

  2. Yup...I found that out the hard way, too....and no heat shield on the derned exhaust, either

    l_aef78cef8400440789dc0e84b0766864.jpg

Getting in, the mirror bracket hit the intake and the door quit opening...I was already climbing up the steps, so when the door stopped & bounced back, it knocked me into the stack :pat:

I looked at that picture and said "WTF?!! What body part is THAT?" Jo said "that's his ass cheeks". I said "no way!". Then we figured out it was an elbow...but when you first look at it- man, I could have a field day with this picture-but i'm not gonna do it...i'm trying to quit.

  3. My God grandfather is gonna teach me. I told him I'd off him fuel money and at least I won't be rushed through ya know. One benefit is I'll be learning pulling a 48ft spread axle flatbed. :thumb:

    I pull a 48' spread axle...am I your idol?

Seriously, I think that's the best way to learn. You're fortunate to have someone who's "been there and done that" to teach you everything and show you things rather than just telling you something and that's the end of it. There's nothing like hands on experience that you can learn by hearing someone tell you about it or reading about it. That's what pisses me off about the guys coming out of school- they've been on the road for a year or two and know it all and i'm a fool-"well that ain't how they taught us to do it, my trainer (who probably has 2 and a half years experience) said to do this and do that and you're all wrong..." But you have a good attitude and I feel sure you'll be successful.

  4. I'm still alive, just been getting ready for school to start back up Tuesday. I got my God grandfather helping me get my CDL (Be learning pulling a flatbed) and then once I do that I may be driving for someone out of KC pulling a flatbed in the state of Illinois.

I've pulled a flatbed over 30 years now...hard to believe, but true.

  5. Did one of you guys stomp his dick in the dirt or something to run him off? Not really like him to go days and not check in. Maybe he's on a rescue mission of a stranded Pete?

    The world wonders........

    Rob

I have not seen him- but then I haven't been broke down for about 3 weeks now. He'd probably come rescue me if I needed rescuing though.

And speaking of missing- hadn't heard from Nocluejoe for a while. He used to call or send a picture once or twice a week, then just stopped. I called him a couple of times and left messages but still never heard anything. I thought maybe he was shunning me, but I found out that he's still alive and well, he called me just now.

  6. Amen, that is exactly right! I would be proud to own a new a Freightliner Cascadia!..could take pride in owning such a truck or a new shiny Pete/KW...having bling and chrome is nice, it makes you money !

gee Larry, so now we know how you really feel, eh? (Canadian)

    :WELCOME: Bulldog Mack

you've also got to be wary of people playing "fix that post" and altering other people's replies here.

Double L is one of the worst about doing that, but it's all in fun

  7. Say, this New IHC vintage retro truck, would Mack ever consider such a rig ?

    Mike

The PT Cruiser kind of started the retro look, then the Mustangs and Challengers came along, and now the Camaro's back- I always thought if they made a new modern B-model looking cab -bigger of course- it would be a fine looking and very aerodynamic truck. Probably never happen though.

  8. I'd say I'm hard on boots. How hard? This was one day after I bought these:

    l_d763394b6499432c92cd09f2bc9f7566.jpg

They are Carhart brand...still holding up OK, although the sole seems a little hard in the really cold weather.

I have a HELL of a time finding boots that fit PROPERLY because I have an uncommon dimension foot. Best pair of boots I've EVER owned, I special ordered. Measured the length, width, around the ball of the foot, around the arch, around the heel, and around the calf every 2" for as high as I wanted the boot to go. Wore 'em every day for over 3 years before the heel started coming off. I put some screws through the rubber into the wood heel block and that got another 6 months out of them. Yeah, they were pricey @ $350 (and 4 months to get)....but for the last 6 years I've been telling myself I NEED to send 'em back because for less than $80 they'll rebuild them...new soles, repair any stitching, repair any eyelets, etc...basically new boots with the old leather (which is fine because the leather is still good)...and I'll have my favorite boots back.

I've also had good luck with Redwings... :thumb:

I have the same problem, it's hard to find wide boots that fit me right. Red Wings were some of the best I've had. Had a pair of Rocky wellingtons once and they fit good and were light and comfortable but the soles didn't last long and they couldn't be resoled.

  9. That may tempt to me come up with the money to pay your truck off for ya along with Rowdy's and get Other Dog a Mack to pull his skateboard with. Oh yeah can't forget Rob will need a new set of fuzzy dice that momma castrated.

    how's this?

  10. Went to start my truck this morning and she almost didn't want to start but she came to life leaving a very big carbon footprint. Oh no I'm contributing to global warming err climate change. I'm surprised Al Gore hasn't stopped by to lecture me yet.:lol:

You probably won't see that sumbish until summer, when he'll be spreading more global warming b.s.

  11. I'm soooo tired of this stupid weather...

Tom....i'm still enjoying the sauce. I'm stingy with it.....I'm still bleeding heavy from a trip North, going to have to stay away from the VETS in ILL. area. One girl was too rough with me. Ha Ha

    Later

    mike

    Me too!

And the hot sauce- not bragging, but I think it's the best i've ever made, had a really good flavor.

  12. Been trying to pass on this one but guess I'd better in my nickles worth!

Seen 20 below for a week at a time - - - day time temp.

Got really cold at night!!!! LOL

99.9% of the people say"Oh $--T!!!!" when they hit a slick spot.

    In Wyoming, we say

"Hold my beer and watch this"

    Packer

I've been driving in snow all week. Snowed in West Virginia every day this week- probably snowing over there now. Just got back from Orchard Park, N.Y. But I think the slickest road i've ever been on in my life was in Wyoming last year, between Casper and Sheridan.

I can believe that about the "hold my beer..."- a Suburban with "University of Wyoming" on the side of it spun out twice but they got it out and took off again both times and passed me like I was sitting still and I never saw it again, like it was bidness as usual.

  13. the weather eye says it's supposed to be back up to 40 here Monday and Tuesday-yay!

That's a very accurate weather program for your PC- you can put in your location plus a second location if you want and the temperature will be on the bottom of your screen- it's 19 here and 7 in Elliott Lake, Ontario. Click on the temperature and it gives you the 5 day forecast. Old Bill told me about it a couple of years ago. It's free too...free is good.

  14. Hey everyone,I've got a problem with my E9 running a high pyro temp.Had the truck for 15 yrs. so i know it pretty well,or at least i thought i did.I sat it around for about a year, and now that i want to work it again its giving me grief, isn't it always the way.It used to run around 400-420 celsius on the pyro, but lately it,s up around 530-550.celsius, and it would'nt pull a sausage around a greasy frypan.Ive pressure tested the lift pump.40 psi. at idle-55 psi.at 1500rpm.Took the turbo, which has only done 90000km. since i rebuilt the engine, off and had it checked again and was told it was perfect.Checked all the usual stuff,air-inlet restriction, air cleaner element, exhaust restriction, spun on some new fuel filters etc.all to no avail.Put a new anneroid valve and puff limiter piston on and played around with the shimming till it seemed to be working properly, but more fuel just meant a higher pyro temp. This thing is doing my head in.I pressure tested the intercooler, and i am losing pressure in a static test.Duralite say if you lose more than 5psi.over 15 seconds at 30 psi pressure, you have a problem.I tested it by blocking the intercooler pipe where it goes into the turbo on the pressure in side so it would show up any inlet manifold leaks as well when soapy water was sprayed on it.No leaks in the manifolds anywhere, but a decent leak from the front and rear of the top left corner of the intercooler. Not stone damage, more like cracking where the tubes meet the side tanks. It loses about3-4psi over 15sec.My question is,does this static leak have the potential to take away a heap of power and send the pyro through the roof when the truck is being worked and everything heats up?

sounds exactly like what the '77 300 Mack I drove would do when a little short piece of hose would split, letting the turbo "suck air". I carried a piece of heater hose with me and had to replace that hose on the road several times. It was a small hose, about 5 or 6 inches long. I know nothing about a V8.

  15. That right there is whats wrong in this country.

If I posted that some places, I would be a racist, white supremcist, whatever.

But if a black man writes/posts it (elsewhere) he is a hero to his heritage.

LL, you have already stated your dislike for those that lve this way, and I commend you for that. Just like the n word. Its a term of endearment to the blacks FROM a black. But me, I'd be called cracker, honkey, blah blah. If not shot.

Sorry for the rant, been up since 4:30 am. Time for bed

    post-4436-1262737173543_thumb.jpg

    She's waiting

you shouldn't have posted that picture...you know how I am, and i'm trying to quit...keep telling myself "do not alter that picture...do not add any captions"...but it's tough.

    I'll just add this one.

  16. For crying out loud people, driving 50-55 isn't driving slower in the snow. I don't get why people are always in a such a damn hurry to get no where and then a few miles up the road you see the speeding vehicle in a ditch as you go by you laugh at them for their stupidity. I guess people never heard of black ice before. I don't see why people are so scared to drive in the snow, I love it! All you got to do is go slow and take your time and it's not so bad at all. But I guess people are such in a hurry they will drive fast even though the road is clear and then they wreck because they hit a patch of black ice. People even seem to drive fast when the roads are covered in ice and snow. I just don't get people anymore! I guess that me first mentality will cause someone to have a wreck if they don't get there in record time, but then again they provide me with entertainment when they end up in the ditch.

true that, I'm the same way- I was coming down I-79 in West Virginia this morning, road completely snow covered except for 2 tracks in the right lane. I was running 50 mph. and a big truck blew by me that had to be doing 70, like he was on dry pavement. He went on about his binness and I didn't see him in the ditch anywhere, but he had way more nerve than i've got.

  17. The NERVE of some people!!!

I'm running down the road today when this knucklehead pulls out in front of me....just GOTTA get in front of that big truck

They never got going more than 20 mph...so, as soon as I had a safe place to get around 'em, I did.

They called the f'ing company I'm leased to to complain.

...or at least I THINK that's who it was. The company called me as I was going into Sparta to tell me someone called to complain because I passed 'em, and that I should "slow down a little". Apparently, I passed 'em between Chester and Sparta...which would be kinda hard considering I was coming into Sparta on the other end of town....opposite direction  So, either the caller had no clue where they were, or they got the wrong trailer number.

If I had been getting paid by the dumba$$ that pulled out from a side road in front of me today, I'd have been better off. I was following about 200 feet behind a car...45 mph (in a 55 zone). This pickup truck pulls up on a side street when the car was maybe 400 feet from the intersection, and the guy waited for the car to go by, then pulls out in front of me. Snow pack on the road. Rear wheel drive pickup. I damn near hit the stupid f'er. Of course my air horn is froze up :pat: and not working, so I used the horn on the steering wheel....just doesn't have the same effect, though. Even first thing this morning, this lady leaving the kroger must not have seen the snow on the road because she TRIED pulling out in front of me. On DRY pavement, she wouldn't have had time to pull that maneuver safely...luckily, her tires just spun and she aborted her attempted suicide-by-truck.

I LOVE the snow. I LOVE driving in it. I could do without all of the other knuckleheads, though. If you can't drive in it, stay home and out of my way. :SMOKIE-LFT:

I agree 100%- that's the worst part, all the morons you gotta deal with. They just HAVE to be in front of the truck, and let 200 cars go by and pull out in front of the truck every time! That's the main reason I hate driving in snow anymore, there's just so much traffic out there.
